fforest Posted October 26, 2025 Posted October 26, 2025 (edited) I just took my computer to the shop to upgrade my operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 10.....I thought something was wrong with computer because I have not been able to download the latest versions of Google Chrome for the last 2-3? years....... The computer guy tells me Google has stopped allowing Chrome updates on old operating systems......First time I have heard of this...... I dont recall having this problem when I kept using Windows XP for many years after it was no longer supported...... The computer guy put a Windows 7 shell on Windows 10 and it looks very similar to Windows 7 and works well..... I guess going forward it will be harder to keep using old operating system for ages.... Laawman Posted October 26, 2025 Posted October 26, 2025 Yes, I'm afraid that going forward may well involve biting the bullet and getting used to the changes as this is the way Microsoft is moving now. Win 11 is even worse. This is also the part where I mention moving onto either Firefox or Brave browsers could well be in your best interests......... 4

If you update the windows 11 at some point that shell also works and works well 4

I'm of the same mind. Although you'll probably need to upgrade your computer hardware to support Win 12. 1 2

Yeah I have Windows 11 on my backup computer I'll turn it on every couple of days and work on it for an hour to just to get used to Windows 11 I'm still very happy with Windows 10 on my main computer and I'll leave it there until I can't use it any longer by that time I'll have gotten used to Windows 11 I think. 1
redwood13 Posted October 26, 2025 Posted October 26, 2025 Timely topic for me. I built my current MSI based desktop about five years ago and for WIN 11 I need to upgrade some components including the CPU. I was all set to do that when I thought, does my MB support the upgraded CPU? And as things will go, of course it doesn't. So I'll essentially have to tear down the current computer and rebuild it, which is something I don't look forward to doing. I haven't done much research, but maybe I'll buy something like one of these: https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-windows-mini-pcs?test_uuid=03iF1uOjHbmoZSTXr58OMhT&test_variant=B

I've found Brave to be a bit unstable sometimes. My default now is either FF, Opera or TOR with duck duck go search engine. Currently running Windows 10 and sticking to it. 1 1
coxyhog Posted October 26, 2025 Posted October 26, 2025 Had my Macbook Pro for over 10 years now.... Just saying.... 1 1

I did try an iPad but it didn't want to play nice with Windows or Android so I shelved it. If you already have an iPhone, then getting a Macbook or iPad is a no brainer as they all work seamlessly together - but it's an expensive proposition! 3

It might just be one of my extensions but I can't be arsed to reconfigure it all. https://www.powerbuy.co.th/en 1

Don't believe what MS tell you. In all likelihood you can upgrade to WIN11 without any issues. In fact, if your system is only 5 years old it is almost guaranteed you can upgrade.

But no matter what anyone says Windows operating system and the Chrome browser are Top dogs in the internet world and have been for many years now.....And until they are dethroned, I am sticking with the top dogs.... 1 2
