Popular Post Yesitisdakid Posted November 6, 2025 Popular Post Posted November 6, 2025 I was out buying a few things using my mobile app as I have without an issue for quite a while now. I made a purchase and I guess I forgot to log out of the app once the purchase was approved. Put the phone back in my pocket headed home got home pulled the phone out and on the screen it said my mobile web pin number had been locked. I am guessing it bounced around in my pocket when I still have the app open which caused it to send bad information so they locked the app. They offer a way to unlock it without going to the bank but it didn't work for me. So on a motorbike taxi I went and I'm guessing that all the Frozen accounts and all the issues that have been had recently must be either finished or almost finished because when I walked into the bank at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon there were no customers zero at any of the desks or waiting to be waited on. They ushered me over to a desk I sat down and then I realized oh no I forgot my bank book I had my ATM card my phone with the app and my passport but no Bank book and most of the time you can't get anything done without having the bank book. I told the girl I was dealing with what I needed done the first thing she asked me for was my bank book. I explained to her I just didn't have it but I had my passport by ATM card and I was hoping that would be enough she said she was sorry but they really did need the bank book. Not her fault I got up took a few steps and ran into the lady that I've been dealing with her at least 15 years in that same branch we traded pleasantries she asked if everything was okay I explained to her what I needed and she said follow me we went over to her desk gave her my passport ATM card and my phone we went over to the ATM machine she put a bunch of things in it don't know what she did didn't really pay attention I had to acknowledge it then back to her desk. Then she had me log on again and put in my PIN number thankfully I could use the same pin number didn't want to change it. Lo and behold mobile app back to working pin number unlocked. She explained to me the technically they do need the bank book but she said if you opened your account in this branch which I did then they can get around that and the girl that waited on me was fairly new and she just followed procedure. I know Bangkok Bank has gotten a lot of flack recently but it looks like things have started to slow down regarding the Frozen accounts and such. I like Bangkok Bank it's easy for me to say because the account freezing had nothing to do with me didn't bother my accounts I could see where it would be frustrating but I've had my account for about 26 years and I just haven't had an issue that I didn't cause myself 4 1 4
forcebwithu Posted November 6, 2025 Posted November 6, 2025 Good that you didn't have to make another trip to retrieve your bank book. While the Thai banking system is far ahead of what we have in the US, it's still crazy they require a bank book to do pretty much anything with your account. 2 1

I was recently told that a friend went to k Bank in Big c extra and they wanted his passport to deposit money to an account. To withdraw money I can understand but to deposit money strange I guess but rules are rules 1 1

Just money tracking to combat laundering I guess. 2 1

Just money tracking to combat laundering I guess. I've been able to exchange money using my Thailand Driver's License. I've also been able to check into Thailand hotels and Thailand domestic flights using a TDL in lieu of a passport. That may be because the TDL has the passport number listed. 2

Glasseye Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 I have 4 different accounts with 3 different Thai banks. Rarely have any issues with any of them, other than an a mobile glitch now and then (I just recharge or wait it out). BKK tends to be a little more sensitive than K bank though. Pocket dialing can sometimes lead to unwanted circumstances. They are still catching up with the technology, hence the bankbook requirement. But, the bankbook is actually a good thing. Because it is kind of a backup when their tech systems go haywire (which they will). 1 1
Horizondave Posted January 11 Posted January 11 My mate arrived in Thailand last week. He has a Bangkok Bank account, that he opened last year in a Hua Hin branch by paying a few thousand baht to open. He is a tourist and only travels twice a year. He stays in a condo for 2 months each time. When he arrived at the airport, he went to the BB ATM to withdraw some of his money but the transaction was refused. He tried to withdraw money in Hua Hin at an ATM and again, was refused. He went to the Bangkok Bank, where he opened the account, and they told him they had closed his account. They refunded him all his money and advised him that he wasn't able to have an account. He was obviously peeved, as he had paid the same bank last year, to open the account. They apologised and my mate was on his way. He has a Wise card, if needing extra funds, which does work for withdrawing his money. A bit of a shock to him but nothing he can do. 1 4

I think this will happen more and more unless on a long term visa 4

It should be of no surprise to anyone given the amount of publicity over the past year. I am glad that so far Kasikorn haven't followed suit, although they now require updated info and a face scan. It's not the time to bury your head in the sand in the hope these recent measures will go away methinks. I now have a Wise card just in case Kasikorn have a purge. Edited January 11 by boydeste 1 4

I have Wise and Revolut, plus my U.K. cards ... the only problem is the Thai ATM fees would rack up My Bangkok Bank worked okay last trip , I'm just hoping that it will continue to do so ... after upgrading my phone I can no longer log into the Bangkok Bank app ... if this stuff wasn't happening , it would be a quick trip to one of the branches and they would sort it out ... but I'm not putting my head above the parapet at the moment .. 555 I still have access to my account on my old Thai phone , so will carry on with that for now 🙏 1 3
coxyhog Posted January 11 Posted January 11 I've had a BKK bank account in Korat for quite a few years now and on the last trip went to the branch to register my now (hopefully) permanent Thai mobile number. Usually I arrive without a visa and top up my account via Wise or Xe.com before I leave the UK. I've got a few bob in there I hope I don't have any problems. 4

Soon you will have a retirement extension, so hopefully you can update your status and there won't be any further problems. 3 4

I have a Kasikorn bank account, and last August, I was using it no problem. Even went to the bank to check on another account, all was ok and didn't need to offer any documents or biometrics. Appreciate, this is Thailand and anything can be different tomorrow. 2

I have accounts at BB, K and SCB that I opened 15 years ago. So far I've not been asked to come in and activate face scan. It might be because I have a low transfer limit of 50K. Some reports I read is if you want a higher limit you need to activate face scan. 1 3

I had a pop up window when logging into my KBIZ account telling me the date it needed to be done by to continue using the service. I don't have the app on my phone, so that's probably different. All I do know is that they all seem to be tightening up compared to previous years. Edited January 12 by boydeste 1
