Lemondropkid Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I came down with a cold yesterday evening. Sneezing and watery eyes made sleep difficult. Realised I hadn't even paracetamol in the house. Picked up the tablets below from the local pharmacy this morning, 35 baht for a 3 day course. Any ideas on effective Thai remedies or do you normally consult with Dr. Jameson🤔

Painter Posted November 7 Posted November 7 From 7-11... about 20b. Some people say 1 teaspoon 3 times a day, others say half a bottle every few hours. (Incidentally, saw a small bottle in a UK Asian supermarket for £6.75) 1 1 2

I also use this to open up the nasal cavity so I can breathe easier. 2 1
Stillearly Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I once had a cold here that I couldn't shift , the pharmacy gave me anti-histamines and it dried up very quickly.. 3

Cold seems to be doing the rounds here in my neighborhood. The 7 girl who served me and the girl in my cafe have it. The SkyTrain is a great spreader. 3 2

coxyhog Posted November 8 Posted November 8 (edited) I've used Decolgen in the past,a bit like the 4Flu available in the UK,seemed to give me an uncongested nights sleep but mostly I used it after some alcohol intake. https://www.shopping-d.com/products/decolgen-pack-4-tablets-relieves-colds-with-nasal-congegestion?srsltid=AfmBOopb8e5cAba0e7t4Z_PJ3mGarnrrYxuYAT6CeiORUDD8LX0IZTKr Edited November 8 by coxyhog

Pumpuynarak Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Tiffy imo was much better when it contained psedoephedrine but the Thai government banned its use for obvious reasons. 3

As a past migraine sufferer, I feel your pain. For minor migraines I found Excedrin Extra Strength, or the generic equivalent effective. The active ingredients are: Acetaminophen 250 mg, Aspirin 250 mg, Caffeine 65 mg Perhaps it's the acetaminophen in Tiffy that helps with the migraines, but I found taking that alone wasn't as effective as the Excedrin concoction. For the bad migraines Imitrex was a life saver. I used the injectable Rx and within 15 minutes of a dose the worst of the symptoms were knocked down. 1
Jambo Posted November 9 Posted November 9 A bit off/topic but since I have been on blood thinners I am very susceptible to both bruises and annoying cuts and grazes on my arms and legs. Fortunately I had in my possession Thailand's universal answer to any potential infection: It has been used all too often in the last couple of years as I would not go anywhere without it reassurance. Until two days ago when I had covered the soft side of an Elastoplast for the latest cut on my arm and happened to read the warning on the side of the dispenser: OOOOooops! 1

I get a sore crotch rash on the very few occasions that I wear skiddies. My missus dabs that stuff on it and the rash dries up over night. Brilliant stuff !! 1

Yessongs Posted November 11 Posted November 11 @Lemondropkid So are you feeling better now? I got tested when I was in High School, I swear, when ever I would get "spring allergies" around April/May back home, the runny nose was annoying as I battled grass pollens right? The one thing that worked for me, that never disappointed was "Benadryl" over the counter....would knock me on my ass though. Tired was an understatement. One of the good things about living here is there are "no seasons" per say...no grass pollens to worry about. 😊 2 1

I wouldn't swap being here for the long dark colds days at home. Really humid this morning though and looking murky. Allegedly it will cool down come the weekend 🙂 2
