No fun for myself as I've put my name in the hat to be on call out for work. Turns out mine was the only one haha. Good method of avoiding getting pissed at least.

Wife and Daughter going to a party, I personally don't really enjoy parties, especially at NYE with everyone expecting everyone to be nice to each other. It's just the "grey food" (finger foods, nuggets, sausages etc), booze and everything else which combines to make me feel like crap for a few days. Plus I'm normally on my chinstrap by 10:30pm let alone midnight most days and ready for bed, so I'm giving that a miss.

What Y'all up to?.

I’ll be in Bangkok but no plans at the moment so will just go with the flow. Not that keen on the new year celebrations though because it just means the end of Christmas and back to work

I think mine will be a repeat of Xmas day, mate will pick me up,we'll go to the Pennsylvanian Spoons in Rickmansworth, where I hope they'll still have Old Peculier on draught, then I'll get a cab home.Probably be home by 8pm,we're both far too long in the tooth for late nights & from what I've seen in the past the bar will be 5 deep by then.

Missus is going to try to change her flight home tomorrow but she won't be back before NYE.

I've thought of going into Pattaya for the evening but I probably won't - just too much of a hassle getting back and forth from Jomtien and I'm sure there will be plenty of smaller parties going on here if I am so inclined. I remember one NYE years ago when we had 25 people on one baht bus leaving Jomtien but as soon as we started turning into south Pattaya at the bottom of Pratamnak Hill it just became total gridlock and everybody paid off the driver and just started walking instead.

The Pattaya traffic gets completely snarled up on NYE and the taxi apps like Bolt and Grab using dynamic pricing become very expensive. Plus every bar and restaurant I know around my local area has a party planned which you either have to book or be invited to. For me, there's no point in even trying to go out later in the evening, though the GF and I and the dog will head down the usual bar by Rompho market for a few NYE drinks in the afternoon before they start the party at 6:00. I'll warm up a couple of beef lasagnes and make cheesy garlic bread for our meal at home, followed by fresh cream chocolate eclairs, and I've treated myself to a bottle of Dom Perignon Brut from V2V. The GF isn't a wine drinker so she'll be happy with a small bottle of Regency. Phew! lol

The one time I remember jumping out of a friend’s car, was the Flames’ 2004 playoff run. 17th Avenue was just jammed ….OMFG the number of illegitimate children conceived in May /June of that year…..great times, AND they would actually be winners in only 6 games with today’s technology , a puck crossed the paint by 0.5 inch…instead we lost in 7 😢 and the drought 🇨🇦 sits at 33 years now

Yonks ago the best NYE was at Rabbie's Bar opposite where Treetown is now.. Free food, a Canadian Piper at midnight, great people and a damned good time!

I was there for many of them and usually supplied the haggis.

Roy Copeland was the piper and I've still got his business card somewhere.  I just googled him and came up with this from a charity presentation after a Burn's Supper at Nessie's Bar..

Well now.... i think that ^^^ could possibly motivate me to go out. Geeeezus Fcuking H. that is a brilliant pic!

But alas.... I have no such good fortune within the ticking hours awaiting. Also.... I am saving my seed for other nights down the road.

-----------------------

But yes.... I have usually worked on NYE. I reckon since then I have learned - No big deal. Stay home, stay safe, stay away from flu and covid. Cook a nice meal.

Enjoy life at home, alone or with company. It's just another day.

I have spent the last few years at the staff party in the pool hall in Bkk.

Contemplating going to the river front area to see the fireworks and drone display, but not sure I can be asked with the hassle it will involve.

Will see how I feel on the day.

That one year I watched some of the festivities (my first year up here) from my balcony at the Astra.

That was the time when the fireworks never ended (must have lasted a few days). On NYE I sat and watched. I noticed these green lights WAY up in the night sky. I had no clue what they were. It baffled and amazed me. After the stupidity fog faded away I realized what they were.... fcuking drones.

People gonna do what they do. Just stay safe mate, and enjoy whatever you do.

Happy happy, joy joy !

I have no NY plans. I dont like it. I will probably get pissed and watch rubbish on TV. I have no new year resolutions apart from to stop being a c**t, which I do every year and has never come to fruition.  I remain mildly optimistic though.

Practise makes perfect Sir
