Pumpuynarak Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I'm contemplating yet again buying a new car lol. I thought instead of accepting an offer from the dealership i would offer it to any friends/ BM's. I bought it new from a local Toyota dealership here in Korat back in 2007 and i have to say its been absolutely brilliant and i've loved it to bits. Its the 3liter turbo diesel with 2/4 wheel drive, its done circa 200K km's and is in superb condition. My friends say they can't believe how good it looks for a 19 yo car and it also still drives like a new car. I don't abuse cars and always diligently look after them, they are part of me if ya know what i mean and its been serviced every 6 months at my local Toyota dealership. The only problems i've had with it are..... * It required new rear shock absorbers. * The alternator needed repairing. * Front seats were showing signs of wear so i had them recovered. Anyone wanting/needing say a second car it would be ideal as you would'nt be shelling out big money for a great looking, reliable and in excellent condition, cared for by a car enthusiast. I'm posting this to ascertain if anyone is interested, any offers would obviously have to match at least what the dealer offers me. Trust me guys this REALLY is a fantastic opportunity to buy a GREAT FARANG OWNED used car for not a lot of dosh. I'm looking at buying a Toyota Corrola Cross GR Sport cos its wifey that does basically all the driving and thats what she wants..... No hurry guys as i have to do a deal with my local Toyota dealer to buy the replacement Corrola and i'm currently a very busy man trying to sort out some health issues. 4

I bought one of those back in late 2023. Comfortable and a great drive and, in town traffic which is mostly how I spend my time behind the wheel in Pattaya, it hardly uses any fuel. If you switch it to Sport mode it's got amazing performance, if that's what wifey wants, I'm seldom in a hurry these days so mostly drive it in Eco mode. It's not a cheap car, though, I paid almost 1.3 million Baht. Here it is down at the fishing place in Na Jomtien. 1 1

It looks good and is perfect for wifey and i have to say i think i would be happy driving it. If i was purchasing predominantly for me doing the driving i would go for the Fortuner GR Sport.

I looked at the Fortuner as well as the Ford Everest but the GF has got two vehicles of her own so it's mostly just me driving it and I couldn't see the justification for all the extra space in the back you get with the two big SUV's. The other attraction is that as a mid-size SUV the seat's are at the level where you just open the door and slide in and out, it's less effort than climbing up into a full-size SUV or truck. Of course, if you're used to the higher elevation and better viewpoint in the bigger vehicles then you may well miss that. The hybrid system works great and driving around Pattaya I get around 60 mpg (that's a UK g, not a US one, lol). The fuel tank only holds around 35 litres and it's seldom cost more than 1,000 Baht to fill it up, I only usually have to do that once every few weeks. 1

Thanks for your very informative post, so yours is a hybrid, tell me can you get a diesel or petrol version. I'm struggling to find this info on their websites. I don't know if wifey could handle driving a hybrid lol 1
Golfingboy Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Your timing is too funny to me, Cliff. Imagine, Mum just sold her home, and last week finally replaced her 2008 Sentra with a 2021 version with maybe 20k, so like new. I told her she should wait, old model was going on 18 years, another month or two would have done no harm. But she really wanted to close the contract by New Year’s Eve, because of an incentive she was getting for December . Very busy time for the old gal…..Her new apartment is ready on the 1st, so I’ll help her with boxes and such, and the 5th is her closing date on the house, then her 79th birthday right after . Crazy times we live in, her rent is going to be way more than her mortgage , but house was almost paid off, she made a good profit. She has more than enough $$$ to do what she wants going forward, but still has to be smart with it. Same principle with the Nissan, cars used and new, have shot up so much, I think there was a loaded 2024 demo she wanted but it was $31K plus 15% tax, the ‘21 was only $19K…..F—king compact Sentras are going for nearly the same price you used to be able to buy a 370Z, just madness! Anyway, best of luck with the sale on the Fortuner, I know you’ll sell it quickly. 19 years and still in great shape, doesn’t surprise me, I know from driving Camry’s and my mate’s Tundra, that Toyota makes some bulletproof vehicles 1

It's not a full hybrid, though, just a mild hybrid. WTF?? I have no idea what that even means, lol. The handiness of the hybrid depends on whether you mostly crawl along in city traffic jams (Bangkok and Pattaya) or travel at speed on open roads. The hybrid battery and engine save you the most money and pollution in the first case, I'm not sure how much help they are travelling at 100 km/hr on a motorway. 1
Pumpuynarak Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 (edited) Well i think its sold guys, wifey was talking to our Thai next door neighbour and told them we were getting a new car and were selling the Fortuner and immediatley they showed interest, came round and inspected the car and took it out for a test drive, came back and said how much do we want for it. I had'nt given the fact of what is it actually worth much thought as i was'nt in any hurry and had plenty to occupy my mind with some health problems i've had to sort out so i told them i'll let you know in the morning. I then did some investigation on the internet and this is what i found, my Fortuner is the most desirable with the 3.0 Diesel engine and its 2 and 4 wheel drive. So i'm gonna tell them what its worth according to this info and ask for 300K which i think is a fair price for a car in such great condition, they've been bloody nice helpful neighbours over the 17 years so i won't ask for 350K which i would have done if the buyer had been someone i did'nt know or a Toyota dealer. I'm off to the dealership this morning to buy the new car so i'll see what deal they offer me. Watch this space...... Edited January 23 by Pumpuynarak 2 1 2

Good luck with that, mate, I assume they're more accommodating than the crooks in Pattaya. I asked the same thing at the Toyota showroom in Na Jomtien. Talk about blank looks! We give you free first class insurance. We give you free number plates. We give you free dashcam. What more does stupid farang want? I'd have walked out but the alternative was the Honda HRV RS which I'd test driven but I much preferred the GR Sport, so I just had to put up with their disdain. 1
Pumpuynarak Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 (edited) Well the deal was done and i'm happy, i got a few free extras including the insurance but that did'nt include a free dashcam which i would have liked, the lady sales person was a real beauty just like the car lol Pick it up the end of next month, now i just need to move the Fortuner on...... i mentioned it to the lady sales person and she took a few picks of it and is going to advise if they are interested. Ah, right, it sounds like they're just as stingy in Korat as they are in Pattaya, lol. The sales lady (no real beauty) initially promised me free front and rear dashcams, she even wrote it down on one of the forms, but in the end all they'd give me was the front one. A guy I met on AN who bought the GR Sport a few weeks earlier got free front and rear dashcams, which miffed me a bit. We've kept in touch via the PM function on AN and have had a useful exchange of ideas and information. There's also a Thai Corolla Cross owners group on FB which has useful tips, but it's all in Thai, of course. https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1GsXcZ6ZQj/ 1
Pumpuynarak Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 There all Thai mate and ya know what they are like when dealing with dosh, its all about the money for THEM lol. I had a front and rear dash cam fitted to my Fortuner cost me circa 5K supplied and fitted if i remember correctly so i will probaly go down the same road with the Corolla. I would appreciate you letting me know of anything of interest you find out from your AN contact. I have a massive issue with learning all about how to operate/drive the car correctly, i ain't a youngen anymore !!! I have requested a manual in English. Its only money mate and we only live once lol 1

Its only money mate and we only live once lol There's a guy on that FB group who knows his stuff, Suthee Meekae , and he often writes useful articles for people who are new to the car. I'd suggest look fro things he's written there and use the FB translate option, it's usually good enough. One really handy feature is the remote-free door locking and unlocking. You know, you're going out to the car and your hands are full of odds and ends, then you have to fish around in your pocket for the remote fob, it's annoying. As long as you've got the remote on you, though, you can unlock the doors simply by touching one of the front door handles on the touch pad on the back. You lock it by touching the three horizontal ridges on the door handle. Since I discovered that I haven't used the remote once, it's really handy. The adaptive cruise control is much more sophisticated than what you had on the old car, if you had it. It's well worth spending an hour figuring that out with the help of the user manual. I hope you enjoy it, anyway, I've had great fun in mine and love driving it. 1

Well i think my next door neighbour is the Thai equivalent of our very own UK ''tyre kicker'' lmao. Wifey let his wifey know we wanted 300K and we have'nt heard a word back from them. Wifey reckons they were probaly just being nosey Thai style with no intention of buying the car lol Not too worry i've had two more Thai neighbours showing interest, let hope they are also not tyre kickers lol. When wifey and i advertise it on FB to local specific groups i'm anticipating much more interest. We just got to get it valeted inside and out and post some new pics cos thats when it looks like the dogs bollox. We always have it done every month but we have'nt had it done for 6 weeks cos we've been soooooo busy and its dirty. I'm well used to UK potential buyers making an offer and if push comes to shove i'd accept 280K just to get it off the drive, do Thais make offers on cars, anyone have experience ? We don't want to part company with it until we've got the new one and thats not available until the end of February so bags of time to sell it. Onwards and upwards..... forcebwithu Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I'm sorely tempted to take it off your hands for 300K. That seems to me to be a really fair price. Why I'm not jumping on the deal is it's rare I need to travel any distance. For those rare occasions, it make more sense financially to hire a driver and car, or going by bus or airplane. 1 2

Shame i'd of loved to sell it to you but i understand exactly what you are saying and if i was living in Pattaya i'd be the same. I have a mate in Pattaya who bought a new Mitsubishi SUV only to have it spends weeks in the car park never being used since he no longer makes regular trips to Korat. 1 2

I would'nt have bought an all electric car as i've been in love with ICE since i was a young lad lol We're all think differently..... 1

Yessongs Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Just now getting around to this thread....cool Cliff......totally agree, you take good care of your Japanese SUV'S or cars.....they last forever. 300k baht for your Fortuner is a real deal...hope you get that. Let us all know how it all works out and wifey will love you forever now....having a brand new car in the hood....she will be the envy of all of the other Thai girls LOL! I miss my Infiniti G35 I bought brand new in 2003....the ultimate Japanese Rice Rocket....dam this thing was fun to drive. Loved going to some of the car shows, where these young guys would "jack up" their Infiniti's. Back home now, have a Lexus SUV...it's just not the same "buzz" The Honda CRV I have here is flawless...have to admit. 1 1

I certainly would agree that your 3 cars are very desirable, they all ooze quality. My Fortuner was the first and only Toyota i have ever owned and i have to say i'm really impressed with it, quality of just about everything is top drawer and i would know having had it for coming up 19 years !!! Previously i've never had a car longer than 3 years as i've always got restless and looking for a change. This is the only car that i had for 3 years, most were sold at 2 yo..... I absolutely loved it, its sooooo British and totally exciting and great fun to drive with its lack of driving aids, have a lookie on the internet and it will tell you all about its capabilities, TVR Chimaera 500. You deffo have in the US of A but not many of them. This car i'm buying Mike is basically for wifey now and in the future, i'm getting old and she does most of the driving and this Corrolla is what she likes and wants, job done. If i was still the main driver i'd have bought the Fortuner GRSport also in red, its more of a mans car imho. 1 2
