Popular Post coxyhog Posted January 31 Popular Post Posted January 31 The Sunday Times has just published a list of the UK's top taxpayers. 8th on the list is Sir Tim Martin, who paid £199.7 million in tax....god knows how much you have to earn to pay that much....but he's worth it. Just ask any pisshead in the UK😎. Little known fact: Wetherspoons was named after a former schoolteacher of Martin's,who said that he'd never amount to anything😂. 3 3 5
Popular Post Nightcrawler Posted January 31 Popular Post Posted January 31 He just opened a pub near me. Grade 2 listed building, its massive. Nice area and loads of parking. Coombe Lane. Been there a few times since it was open, and was there yesterday afternoon A new one at Waterloo station which is pretty good. Always busy. I often meet friends in the Wmbledon one opposite the theatre. Very busy at weekends, with a mixed crowd. But there are a few shitholes, like the one in Hounslow but overall he's got a great business model . Don't know why they took the Sunday Roast off the menu though. Using their smatphone App is easy and saves standing at the bar to order and comes straight to your table. No music in any Wetherspoons. Prices ridiculously low with wide range of beers, spirits, cocktails and food etc. More pricey in Central London Wetherspoons but that's to be expected. I guess the downside is that a lot of small independent pubs are shutting down across UK. 3 4 3
coxyhog Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 (edited) I drink in The Pennsylvanian in Rickmansworth which used to be a shithole but has improved a lot and The Full House in Hemel Hempstead which has to be one of the biggest pubs in the country,it used to be a cinema. Agree with using the app it makes life a lot easier. Also agree about pubs closing but in my local pubs, which I do use,a pint is around £6 & in one of them the real ale is crap. In Wetherspoons I've never had a bad pint of ale and there's always a good choice. Going to Ricky tonight😁. Edited January 31 by coxyhog 4 2 1

Landlord and landlady Pete and Hannah will be available to have a few words with you on your next visit. lol I have been in the Hounslow branch many times over the last 20 years and, as much as it doesn't offer a unique building experience, I have always enjoyed myself there. Got some good looking staff as well. My favourites are the Folkstone branch, a Manchester branch and good old Neath. I am there for the real ale mostly which does offer a good selection. I will also be there on the 14th, so if you are looking for a valentine!!!! Edited January 31 by Horizondave 2 2

The staff are under orders to prioritise orders from the app. Only time I go to the bar is when I want to use a CAMRA voucher to reduce the cost of my beer. 4 3

I recall Tim Martin being quoted that is was too challenging for the kitchen team with the number of different items on the plate to deliver everything warm. One manager I knew at the time said there were often having meals sent back to the kitchen that were cold. Apparently they used to attract a number of customers who'd eat my most of the dinner, and then complain about one item being stone cold to get a refund. Something you would never do of course 😜 Edited February 1 by Lemondropkid 1 1 2 3
