And I thought the guy who built it said he wouldn't rebuild. Yes - that is correct. There was extensive damage with an earthquake as you say and the owner was saying the place was beyond repair. Then after a survey it was ascertained that the place could be repaired. I believe it is privately owned and gets no assistance from the state. Whether the 'beyond repair' label was an attempt to secure some state funding I do not know.
