I know we're mostly practical guys at heart here.

I've got a very old and scratched up leatherman which gets used once or twice a week, it was a gift from the Mrs on our first anniversary and since then it's never apart from me during work hours, I even take it with me on holiday in the case as it just happens to be so useful.

However, it did replace a big swiss army knife which I used a fair bit, but found it not to be as robust as it should be, or as I expected it to be. Also, stuff on it never got used, it got to a point where it was so dirty and crappy, half the blades wouldn't open without me losing half my thumbnail, so I needed a bloody screwdriver to open the screwdriver.

Anyway have our resident BM's any preference, or "don't need either". In the PI I find it more essential than ever actually, especially for opening bottles of Red Horse.

I have never owned a Leatherman, but still keep a Swiss army knife in my fishing gear. It was a gift from a company in France and is still in good condition.

The leatherman has an advantage with having strong cutting capabilities with those jaws. This was demonstrated to me in a remote fishing situation where a friend impaled a size 2 hook into his hand. The small pair of side cutters I used to carry wouldn't cut through the hook. My fishing partner that worked on aircraft all his life was quick to break out a Leatherman and it cut through that hook easily.

I didn't go out and buy one, but started to carry a large pair of side cutters that would do the job.

I've still got a flick knife from the 70s.

When I went to Jet Aviation in Geneva with an aircraft for a service in 1996 I was given a Swiss army knife & I used to take it everywhere with me as it had a corkscrew.

Then I went on my first overseas job post 9-11 & it was taken away never to be seen again.

Only downside of the SwissTool pictured above is no corkscrew.

Ahhhh...

"Chaps in Chaps", although I tend not to have jeans on as well, they restrict movement.

Reminds me of the time @Nightcrawler called me one evening very excited, which was soon to be quashed when I told him that "Boyz 2 men" was a pop group and not a new kind of delivery service.

Funny how we both had the same member in mind.😂

I had my original Swiss Army knife for many years. It went everywhere with me for those occasional times when its use proved invaluable.

Then one day, when I rushed to get on a flight, I stupidly left it in my hand luggage and it was confiscated at the Airport.

I replaced it with an exact duplicate but it never seemed the same.

This topic made me recall that scary guy from The Secrets forum who  seemed to attract trouble  everywhere he went. He would have loved a topic about knives!

I cannot remember his Board name but I do recall him describing using a pencil (Pen?) as a tactical weapon.🫢

That was Code Slayer, he was on here for a while. Met up with him a couple of times many years ago. Really interesting guy to talk to.

Yeah. I see it wasn't clear in my post that the post I quoted was by Code Slayer.

"Code Slayer" your right. I have a memory like a sieve these days!

I do recall he once invited everyone to join him for a drink in Secrets and nobody turned up! Sadly, that aura of "violence" preceded him however unwarranted it may have been.
