For me 3. Things that would be considered normal during a life. I'm not including a fractured wrist a dislocated finger or when I tore the cartilage in my knee when vacuuming the living room 😳 

So for me and number one was a 3 month bout of sciatica in 2024. Not ashamed to say it literally brought me to tears on occasions. I also suffered it during my first visit to Thailand in 2008 but not as severe. 

Number 2..and this was unforgettable for me.... I was 19 years old and contracted Gastroenteritis.... Bloody horrendous. 

Number 3....and I'm suffering again from another tooth infection or abscess. 2 days ago I looked like Quasimodo but it's eased somewhat. 

Your experiences please. Just physically not mentally... That's another topic.

Sciatica for me too, over a period of several years.

Phsyio helped it but was needed more and more frequently until one time I ended up on a morphine drip in hospital and said enough was enough.  Ended up getting a partial discectomy L5/L6.

My worst pain was many years ago in Ghana. I had an ingrowing toe nail that could just about be kept under control by a bit of cutting/digging together with a local powder concoction of antibiotices and paracetemol mixed by mortar and pestle by my "friend". My job involved a lot of walking on site so eventually i had to go to the doctor.

The doctor said he would give me a local anaesthetic, but the pain of the needle was unbelievable, i have no idea what he was doing wrong. I was screaming and swearing but the doctor and nurse held me down and just carried on.

Strangely the toe nail grew back and survived the experience but i never fully recovered. The scars can't be seen but they are real.

1 Kidney Stones ... was doubled up in pain , had to call an ambulance 

2 Sciatica... intense and prolonged pain , I could hardly walk at some stages ...the worse time was when cocodamol had bungled me up ... sitting on the toilet and trying to push ... sent me into spasms ..

3 dislocated my kneecap and tore my ACL whilst playing golf .... well I was on the driving range and there were still 99 balls in the bucket as I was stretchered off to the ambulance .... the torn ACL was misdiagnosed by the hospital so I'm still without on my left knee ..

A badly infected gaul bladder. Came on suddenly and felt like a scaffold pole was stuck in me. I nearly blacked out with pain. Ambulance called and immediately given morphine. Operated on 2 days later and Paul bladder plus gaul stones were removed 

4 years ago, I lost balance and fell onto the corner of a solid coffee table. I cracked three ribs to the side of me.

The pain was excruciating and whichever way I moved was pain. Even sleeping was a conscious nightmare  

I was on heavy duty pain killers for several weeks until the ribs started to mend. Even taking a dump was painfully plus the pain killers were causing constipation to make matters worse.  

I've had a number of episodes of putting.my back out suddenly which have lasted up to a week and back pain is a killer, as it hurts everytime you walk. Happened to me once when in thailand and completely ruined over a week of my holiday.  

1. Has to be root canal surgery in Yangon with totally  Inneffective annaesthetic 

2. Sciatica!!!!! Same same everybody

3. Viagra OD. I had a Filipina maid with benefits whilst working in KL. One day her friends gave her some Viagra pills . I had no idea what dosage to take so I took 3 in one go....I was in agony for a week. The worst thing was going for a poop. I couldn't "push" because of the pain and had to just sit there and wait for it to drop out naturally over an hour or so ...

Years ago in Michigan we would go hunting but I was a kid. And I needed to take a dump but in doing so I sat down in a camouflage claw bear trap. While that did hurt a bunch it really hurt when I finally ran out of chain 😁😁

I thought I was having a forking heart attack.

Sciatica sounds horrendous, hope I can avoid that.

My worst pain was probably when I fell off a scaffold tower and broke my arm, all my own stupid fault too but could have been worse 

I snapped a finger end of at the gym, I put a dumbbell on the floor without looking and trapped my ring finger between the dumbbell I was holding and one already on the floor. There was a flash of pain then it went numb. I went to the hospital where they had a look and told me they'd give me something for the pain even though there wasn't any and proceeded to give me a thing called a ring block which is an injection with a 2 inch (50mm) needle either side between the fingers, it hurt that much I screamed then did it a second time when they sewed my finger back on. The injection sites hurt for days after.

I cracked 8 ribs falling off a bike earlier this year. Breathing is painful, I couldn't sleep lying down for 3 weeks. I had a coughing fit one day and the pain from my ribs made me see stars and nearly pass out.

Well, I had my wallet stolen but was being a prick about it ... I was never going to get it back anyway ..

I remember having an incredibly painful bout of gout in and around my big toe.

I then 5 year old daughter lifted the TV remote and smacked my big toe (which was resting on a cushion as i lay on the sofa) with it.

Fucking Hell, i think we're both still traumatised. Me from the intense pain, her from the scream i let out when she did it!

I had gallstones in 1992. The pain was quite intense. Luckily, endoscopic surgery was available then, it was one night in the hospital and back home the next day. Twenty years earlier, my dad spent about ten days recovering from his gallbladder removal before being discharged. He was carved open like a watermelon. My surgery left a one inch scar in my navel.

First ever attack of gout !!!! .... pain came on in the middle of the night and was indescribable...... discovered Allopurinol few years ago so touch wood never again. 

Fractured some ribs in Jomtien wasn't even drunk which made the pain worse. Climbing down sandbags to get onto the beach Thai supposed to help but didn't fell quite a long way but basically landed on hard sand. Really painful.

Cheerful topic this one chaps ...... but interesting never the less.

Wish i hadn't posted so early, i jumped in at post number 3 with basically a "I had a sore toe" story. Then my post was followed by some incredible stories of unbearable pain. I liked (probably the wrong word) where the poster gets to the last sentence before explaining that his finger had been severed and had to be sewn back on. I almost wish i had another story to tell but luckily not, although i did bump my small toe on the bed leg a couple of days ago.

Came off a bike in Oman,open face helmet so 35 stitches in the boat race but also broke fingers,connecting bone,right thumb & right wrist.I came round on the operating table & one of them was manipulating my broken fingers.The nurse just said grip the side bar with my good hand & hold on.Not sure which was worse that or the tip of my right thumb.That night I was screaming in pain that the plaster they's put halfway up my thumb was causing.In the morning a guy came with some snips & cut away the plaster & the relief was massive.

1. Well I could say sciatica for 1 and 2 as I have suffered two occasions of this terrible pain. I will keep both at number 1 though. I never knew such pain could exist until I had my first bout. It is so dibilitating, just trying to move was an ordeal. It is difficult to imagine trying to go to bed and that in itself becomes a process that needed planning. Just going to the loo was something I wish I didn't have to do. Any movement was beyond painful.

2. Like @Derek Dangleberries, I had root canal surgery at my dentist in Singapore, back in 1987. I had plenty of anaesthetic but it just didn't make a difference, the nerve pain was almost unbearable.

3. I could say 2 bouts of flu and the recent pain in my gallstone area but it is probably not as bad as the pain suffered from taking the full impact of a football into my groin when I was about 25. Women may say that having a baby is the most painful event for them but most women would be happy to have another baby, I certainly would never want to get a football smashed into my nutsack ever again.

3a. An honourable mention for a local incision into my knee to cut out a solidified blood clot that had remained after blood poisoning. I got a knock on my knee and the day after I couldn't move, I had red lines traveling from my knee down to my foot and up to my groin. I was rushed to hospital as they had to prevent the poisoning going further. Magnesium Sulphate paste was applied to the leg as well as other remedies but after a day the blood poisoning had subsided but centralised in clot under my knee. I had to have an injection right into the area just around the clot and then an incision made. The pain was so bad a burly Irish nurse literally had to hold me down. It might have only been for about 10 seconds but I have never forgotten that experience.

I got arc eye from welding, it felt like someone had thrown hot sand in my eyes. That was a night without sleep.

A follow up.... My first bout of sciatica was ungodly. It took days to even begin to walk more than a few feet. I worked through the bad stuff. But I have never been the same since.  

My first shit after serious ball surgery was pretty rough.

As far a long term pain .... I once seriously jammed a finger while playing basketball. There have been other things that hurt worse, but nothing has ever taken that long to completely heal.

I once seriously pulled a hamstring while running to first base. Now that one hurt like a mother.

 

But (as previously mentioned) the gas attack I had when i ended up in the E.R. was by far the worse.

Oh yeah..... being down with the real flu is a horrible experiecnce.

All of those pains don't come close to the emotional pain of losing a loved one.

I forgot this one,when I was a newbie in the RAF at Brize Norton I had two back teeth,one either side,extracted.

The RAF dentist said the guy(a fellow RAF dentist at RAF St Athan) who filled them was a butcher.

For the second one that he took out they called him back from the officers mess where he was having his leaving do,he reeked of whiskey.

The tooth was so badly infected that the anaesthetic injections had no effect,so he said I could either wait until next Tuesday(this was Thursday) when the gas anaesthetist came or he could pull it now.I said pull it now....f**k that hurt but the relief was palpable.

I'm feeling a right pussy after moaning about a broken arm then reading some of these stories! 

Another painful experience I had was when I got my nose broken in a fight and the doctor at the hospital pushed it back into place with his bare hands without warning me what he was going to do, that made my eyes water a bit but it did the job lol
