A friend of mine found a great deal for me at a hotel I had already booked, and I thought I'd let everyone know. Couldn't find a thread of this sort, so started one, but if one does exist then I'm fine with this post being moved into it.

Holiday Inn Express Central Pattaya on Soi Buakhao is running a 7th Anniversary special:

Not sure how long the special runs.

As I said, I had already booked this hotel on the IHG website for 15 nights @ US$42/night. They booked a new reservation under my wife's name and canceled the existing booking, saving me ~US$150 for the stay.

I am not sure if I can follow your calculations:

You booked 15*42 USD = 630 USD

The special is 1077++ with the + indicating to add 10% service charge and 7% tax:

1077*1.1= 1185 and then *1.07 = 1268 THB * 15 nights= 19014 THB

Dividing this by the average exchange rate of 33.14 THB/USD = 574 USD

A difference of 56 USD and not 150.

Anyway, a good deal and a nice saving.

Saw a video from Rides4kickz who stayed in the brand new Horizon Hotel in Soi 7 for 960 THB (soft opening price offer).

Using 33.14 as the rate, 1077 baht is $32.50. Original rate was $42. Difference is $9.50, x 15 is $142.50. Given that the ++ is percentages, that difference gets me close to the $150, which was an estimate.

Where did I go wrong?

That $32.50 rate goes up to $38.25 one you've added the ++. Difference of $3.75 per night or $56 over 15 nights.

Where you worked out a difference of $142.50 you should then have reduced it to account for the ++.

And adding the ++ to the the $42 rate? This is why I ignored the ++ which is on both rates.

OK, I think both Campario and I have read the $42 as being all-in. As it too is now ++ it would go up to $49.43 giving a difference of $11.18 or $167 over the stretch. Much nicer looking.
