Expiry of UK Visitors Visa

Recommended Posts

Sounds a silly question but if my babe's Visitor Visa is valid till 27 September I suppose she can actually leave on the 27th rather than the 26th.

She came over for 2 months in April and has come back a week ago, pity really she can't stay longer than the 27th but I believe she needs to leave on/before the expiry date.

Good question actually. Some of the wording can be confusing. I'd say She had to leave on the 27th but I might be wrong.

I know this is an old topic but it is a subject relevant to me now.

I believe @Horizondave you interpreted the visa rules incorrectly. If your babe had a Type C UK VISIT VISA with 6 month validity for multiple entries for 180 days per visit then what that means is that on each visit she could have stayed for 180 days. The expiration date on the visa sticker is the last day on which she could re-enter the UK and be allowed to stay for a subsequent 180 day's, not the final last date she could remain in the UK until.

All a bit past date now but appreciate your reply.

The only thing though is that when my wife (then girlfriend) arrived in late August 2018 with a multi entry Visit Visa with expiry of 27 Sep 2018 I did ask the immigration official how long Porn could stay, we were told that she had to be out of the country again by 27 Sep 2018.

Interesting subject that others may need clearance on.

Just picked up my friend from the airport and told her to specifically ask this question to the IO, which she did. She (the IO) said that each visit can be up to 180 days and the last entry date is the visa expiry date but a full 180 day final visit would be allowed up to entry on the visa expiry date, i.e. enter on visa expiry date and stay for another 180 days 🙂

Then some immigration officers have a different take....we arrived 30 days before the expiry of the multi entry visitor visa (2nd trip in on visa) and were told to leave in 30 days time or face issue.....

Isn't there some confusion between :

valid till means "to be used before..."  Which means when granted the visa,, you have to enter the country before that date. But on entering (even close to the limit of validity) your entrance / limit of stay number of days will count from the  date of arrival.

The day you have to leave is the day mentioned on the stamp that immigration stamp in your passport on arrival.

Speaking about single entry visa here. And general rules , but I doubt UK is different.

It was all very confusing to me as I had read Google entries that adhered to both the Shaksey view and the one that I had from an immigration officer at Heathrow.

For info my wife had a 6 month multi entry visitor visa that started 27 March 2018, she arrived on first entry around 30 March 2018 and left again on 05 June 2018.  She then returned to the UK on 25 August 2018 where I asked a similar question to Shaksey, and was advised by the IO that Porn needed to have left UK by the expiry of the visa which was stamped as 27 Sep 2018.

As can be seen she spent a period of just over 3 months in the UK during her visitor visa period.
