  1. I set it to 25 but they're not very good and it often goes as low as 23 which gives me a chill and I end up meddling with the remote increasing and then decreasing the damn thing every half an hour or so.

When sleeping I set it to 20 - nice and cool.

    My electric bill ain't cheap.

  2. I use Skype which is available as an app on your phone and on a full computer like a laptop or desktop.

With a subscription you can have various options like a phone number local to the people you call - then they can call you in Thailand and only pay a local rate.

Also you can get packages for just a few quid a month that offer unlimited calls to landlines and mobiles - they are separate packages, I make many hours of phone calls to the UK every week and have been using it for more than 10 years.

  3. I've been here for 15 years, I never plan on returning for any significant amount of time.

I went back for a week about 10 years ago and the place was shit.

As I'm only about 50 I've spent quite a chunk of my adult life living here - when you think about it that's been half of my adult life since I was 20, before that I don't really count it as I was too young to do much except go to school / get my first jobs, etc.

Sorry to hear about your Mothers death, that's going to be hard at most ages I would think.

  4. Yes, I noticed a price increase on the Martell VSOP brandy I like - it used to be approx 2999 Baht - it went up by a few hundred Baht per bottle, I can't remember exactly how much the increase was, but it definitely happened about 3 or 4 weeks ago.

I was thinking is was a local price increase by the shop (Gourmet Market) but maybe it was a national thing.

  5. Same thing happened with an old Surface Pro of mine - I just dumped it as it was small and getting old.

But for sure you can get a new battery fitted, I wouldn't even bother doing it myself when someone else can do it for almost nothing in terms of Baht.

Me too and the antihistamine i've been taking (Xyzal) also does not appear to be working, now WTF do i do now ?

Take something better - Benadryl Plus.

The active ingredient that works in Benadryl Plus is called pseudoephedrine. if one capsule doesn't do the job then just take 2 of them - this is the only one that worked 100% for me.

It ain't cheap and is banned in half the world but it's still available in the UK.

  7. If they won't sell me a bag of some kind (even a non plastic bag for life type one) then I don't shop there.

I spend plenty of money when I go shopping and buy the most expensive Salmon, Steaks and other imported products week in week out all year around.

No bag, no buy, there's always somewhere else.....

Well we're on Oman tomorrow and checked in normally online but another fella here on Emirates has gone to check in for Bangkok Dubai and instead of normal procedure its saying "come to airline desk at airport"

The only time I've ever had that message was when I was bumped off a flight

Interesting, I would like to hear more about this as the situation develops.

I have a relative staying with me in Thailand and she's supposed to fly back to the UK next week with Emirates via Dubai
