  1. The rent before was (information from a lady who rented in the old MIT for more than 10 year) 14000 a month. She had a bigger bar with 2 billiard. But there was a yearly key money of 60000 AND a 5 yearly key money of 300000 Baht. This comes down to an average of 24000 Baht a month. So if some body tell you the monthly rent, you must also ask all the involved key money to get to the actual rent. Maybe some smaller bars at the back had only a rent of 10000, but you have to add the key money.

  2. For the new MIT rents you have to see the big picture. I made a rough calculation, and than some conclusions.

Cost of running a bar in new MIT per month.

    rent                                                                                                          50000

Initial cost (bar stools, refrigerator, ventilators, billiard, music ect)      5000

    music license (50000 a year)                                                                   4000

    police money                                                                                             3000

personel (1 cashier and at least 7 ladies or LB)                                    50000

electricity and water 5000 and ice 3000                                                8000

That is 120000 a month. Sure i forgot some items, and you can discuss the money involved in each item, but it comes down to at least 4000 Bath profit you must make a day before the owner can make money. For simplicity I take they they only sell beer(I know they also make money from bar fines and more profit on lady drinks). A bottle per box cost around 35 to more than 40 Baht (san Miguel). So if you sell at 80 Baht, you must sell at least 100 bottles a day before making money. The rent in the old MIT was around 25000 Baht. If they sold the beer than at 70 Baht they also had to sell around 100 bottles a day (the beer 3 years ago was slightly cheaper). So a mark up of 10 Baht covers the higher rent. Rent is a major cost, but the other items add to more than that. The point is that you have to have enough customers. Many new owners have already bars. So if the have regular customers base they will come visit the new bar. When you start a bar for the first time, you will have a very difficult first half year, so you must have deep pockets to start and hope for the best.

  3. Some extra information on the new MIT. It is expected to open in November this year. The plots are 5 by 7 Meter. The lady I have this information from had a bar in the old MIT. It was a bigger bar with 2 pool tables. She paid an average of 24000 Baht a month. She has bought the same location, but can only put 1 pool table, and she will pay an average of 48000 Baht a month (monthly pay of 26000 Baht and 260000 Baht a year) which is double for a smaller area. There a many bar owners who had to look for a new bar when MIT suddenly closed and bought a bar that was available at that time. Some of them bought a lot in the new MIT. So you will see that at the end of this year bars scattered over Pattaya will have a sign to be sold.

  4. I used champion tour this year. Three doors down toward the beach from maneerat soi 13/2. Normally I pay my KLM ticket via a Thai bank transfer, but that option is no more . The only way to pay is via credit card (which i do not have) or via paypal, which is not posible in Thailand. The service was very good ( i paid cash), and when i was in my room, i could see my reservation on the KLM site.

  5. I had the same operation done 3 years ago in the same hospital. I also had local anaesthetic, but  mine lasted 3 hours, because when she wanted to start lasering, the machine did not work. It took 1 hour before the laser was fixed. At the end she said that she could not fixed all points, so she needed to put liquid nitrogen locally in my eye. That hurts, and she told me that i needed a new lens, because the liquid nitrogen would destroy my lens. I had to keep my head down for 3 weeks, until my liquid in my eye was partely restored. The costs including one night at the hospital was 204000 Baht. After 10 weeks all the eye liquid was back and she put a edof lens is. That was another 100K. But this lens you can see clearly from 40 cm to the horizon. I always were glasses for nearly 50 years, but now I need none, only when driving. I was very happy with everything. She was very professional.

  6. I mentioned that a good european insurance will cost me 350 Euro per month. This going up to 550 Euro when I am 74 years old. Horizondave mention Pacific cross at 30000 Baht for a 62 year old. That is only 70 Euro per month. I googled Pacific cross reviews, and what I read horrified me. I am a little to heavy and take pills for diabetis 2, cholesterol and high blood pressure. Those 70 Euro probably would do me no good because many illness they would try not to cover because of pre-existing condition. Also I read that if you had a treatment once for an illness the next they not cover. So you get what you pay for.

When I lived in the Netherlands the health insurance costs me about 100 to 130 Euro per month. That is about 1500 Euro a year. The actual costs is 6000 Euro/year because the Dutch government pays the 4500 Euro a year (the Dutch budget for health costs is about 80.000.000.000 Euro). These values a from a few years back from my memory. I just checked an in 2020 the total average costs per person paid by the Dutch government, healt insurance companies and personal payments was 6660 euro per year   So the 350 Euro per month is not so bad

  7. For Dengue fever I can give you the actual costs in Thailand. I have had 3 times Dengue infection.

First time in 1996, when I came back from my first visit to Thailand with high fever. No cost in the Netherlands because of my insurance.

Second time in 2013. I went to the local hospital. 4 days with infuse and every 4 hours blood test to check pellet count. The girlfriend slept under my bed to take care of my needs. Total cost (including food) 4000 Baht (the bed costs were 300 baht a day).

Third time in I went to Korat bangkok Hospital in 2020. In 2 days I could leave because my pellet count went up. total cost of 2 days 43000 baht.

So costs can vary a lot.

  8. Yes, I live in Thailand nearly 14 years. The first 7 years a had a Dutch medical insurance. But because 7 years ago I emigrate from the The Netherlands I have no insurance for the last 7 years, but i have enough money in the bank. A few years back i had an eye operation in Pattaya Bangkok hospital. They did a very good job. Including a new lens the cost was 300000 Baht. I just paid cash. I good international medical insurance would cost me now (64 years old) about 350 Euro per month. When I am 74 it will be 550 Euro per month. Those expenses i save now.
