  1. Foreigner played at first concert I attended. It was The Day of Rock and Roll, in the Superdome. I still can’t believe our parents let my brothers and I drive over 200 miles to New Orleans by ourselves. My older brother was 17, I was 15 and my little brother was 11 or 12. They would probably be arrested if they did that today.

Christopher Cross opened, followed by Cheap Trick, then Foreigner. The Eagles finished out the night. I think the tickets were about $12.

  2. I was just thinking about how long it has been since I bought an album. Decades, maybe since I’ve bought vinyl. I think the last LP I bought was Blizzard of Oz, maybe in 1985.  For cd’s, it was Neil Diamond’s album called 12 Sings. Gee, that was released nearly twenty years ago.
I moved away from purchasing hard copies when I had a car with Sirius radio. Now I stream my music via Apple Music, which is great. Almost any song you want is available and it does a great job; maybe better than a lot of radio stations, of keeping the theme of the playlist on track.  I never understood a radio station playing something like Metallica and following it with James Taylor.

  3. The cheapest guy I ever met was someone I worked with. We had got sent to Denver for a job, so everyone was getting same per diem and wages. After work one day, four of us went to Red Lobster for dinner. The bill came and three of us put down money for our meals and a tip. The cheap bastard counted the money on the table; including the tip, and tried to use our tips to pay for his meal. He got called on it and he was never invited to dinner again.

Regardless of your feelings on tipping, using other people’s tips to pay your tab is thievery.

  4. When I was a kid, we went up to my sister’s farm in Alabama. She had a Vespa and being competitive with my older brother, we wanted to race. With only one bike, we settled on time trials around her catfish pond. After a few times doing this, it was my brother’s turn.

As he approached the last turn I could see he was going too fast to make and I started running to where the crash would be. He hit the rail fence sideways, with the bike piled on top of him. I got there and he was shaking and jerking around. I thought, “my God, he’s broken his neck.” I grabbed his arm and I started shaking and jerking. He was pinned on an electric fence.

  5. Ship pilots belong to the port and only direct the ship until it reaches whatever point is designated as not being in the port . They meet inbound ship before this point and direct them into port. They are very familiar this their little section of the waterway, its tides, currents and such.

  6. Today I rewatched the film The Killing Fields. Four CH-53 helicopters and crew from my Marine squadron were using during the filming. There were no close up shots of my buddies; but a couple of them can say they appeared in the movie.
After it ended, I got on the Google and found the book on which The Killing Fields is based. The Death and Life of Dith Pran, written by Pulitzer Prize winning reporter and author Sydney Schanberg. I found the entire book on https://archive.org/ , where I was able to read for free. It is a short, 78 page account including several pages of photographs. But, it was well written and a nice complement to the freshly watched film version. Highly recommend both.

I always send pictures of all the different Lays flavors we have here to my sister. I’ll try to slip these Doritos by her to see if she’s paying attention.
