I know, one is not supposed to say bad things about the dead

I  met him just the one time at Aintree for the Friday of the Grand National meeting when I took a party of 100 or so guests from my region to celebrate the sesquicentennial anniversary of the insurance company I worked for at the time.

Aintree's hospitality and organisation was wonderful.

    McCririck was not.

He was a totally different person off camera. I saw he behind the scenes one afternoon at York races . While all the other journalists were tucking into lunch, he was preparing, a serious guy, very different from the TV charactured persona.

I respected his pre TV work as a print journalist but can understand how you formed the impression you did.

  2. John McCririck R.I.P

Feel conflicted here as met the guy a few times , what he should be remembered for is as an excellent investigative journalist on the long defunct Sporting Life where he excelled.

How he is remembered is as the cartoon betting pundit( he went bust as a bookie , most of his TV betting output was nonsense) or God forbid a reality TV "star"

He was so much better than that.

Last couple of posts , looks fairly busy ...

    Good post.

As I understood things Ben had no interest in Secrets anymore. Wouldn't class myself as a mate of his, but I've never had the urge to pally up to business owners. Chatting to him in Nov 2018 in Secrets PP, his comments whilst not in the forensic detail that some on here would seem to need to was Pattaya was declining low margin market that he was happy to be out of.

His target market in the main was moneyed-up Asian customers. Who starting a bar now would aim for dying demographic (of which I'm painfully aware I belong to☹️)

I took that  to mean he no longer had any business interest in the old bar. or the hotel, or Pattaya full stop- that seemed a reasonable inference based on 5 minute chat

I really liked Secrets in PP when I was in, (visited again Feb this year) very attractive line up and a cracking band.

  4. Got nothing against Lampard but can't stand the Abramovich Chelski, and don't see this working out.

Derby's away record last season W7 , D7 & L9. Take that to transfer banned Chelski (minus Hazard), that will test their loyal supporters. Both Rafa and Sarri did well, there  but not good enough for them apparently.

  5. Spent 3 nights in Lamai in Feb, nice change of pace. Flew with Air Asia to Surat Thani then took  Lomprayah catamaran to Samui.

Lomprayah arrange a minibus transfer, think for around a 100 baht.

    Enjoyed this place

Think it's about the coverage they are allowed to show ... when they go back to the studio or do other stuff , it's usually because of the access they currently have , sometimes coverage can be split between a couple of US broadcasters

OK was wondering if that was the case. I've only really watched the featured groups so far, which is pretty uninterrupted.

Still hoping Scott and Schauffele came come back .. at least into the top 10 anyway 😉

Schuaffle just double bogey the first. Meanwhile Sky are showing players in the practice area. Kiradech in the bunker, just had to check as was sure he missed the cut. Very poor from Sky

    I've done Cantlay 20/1, Na 125/1 both 8 places.

Then in possibly the worst thought out punt I've ever had McIlroy at 8s, 10 places- I thought it would give me an interest watching. Then I looked at his form, missed the last 3 US Open cuts (maybe I should have done that before punting 😜..) Then a mate reminded me it was in California so with the time difference in the first 2 they could still be playing at 3AM UK time.

All starts today- have added Schuaffle 28s, Woods(!!!) 12s, Mickelson 55s, Sneds 50s and Grace 125s.

Gone further overboard with a punt on Johnson First Round Leader( FRL) at 18s ( 5 places).  Found some stats on the Majors in 31 starts he's been FRL on 4 occasions and Top 5 on 9, so despite being very obvious still "value"

He's an early starter at 8-13 AM local time, 16-13 BST- the statistics also put up a small bias towards early starts but still a roulette punt 😀

Going to be relieved when Royal Ascot starts next week, can lose on something that I'll know after the event exactly why it went wrong 🤯

Oh he ain’t as cool as you think he is.

i lost a lot of respect for him after my friend Caddied for him ,when he won the Open.

He’s  not the loevely nice guy everyone thinks he is.

    Hes another Kuch.

Can't stand Kuch, don't get the love of him by the galleries.

Feel free share some juicy stories about Clarke, can't trust some of these guys from the North of Ireland😀

Rory looking good for a win in Canada ... Lowery second and Kuch not having a good day ... 🙂

He's in the lead by 8 shots, looking very good 😁

  12. I've always tried to sort of turn a blind eye to the exchange rate and take it as a holiday treat- breaking 40 not sure I'm going to be able to do that.

Historically tried to  budget loosely around spending 12k baht a day- say I was getting 55 baht to GBP so £218 a day, now at 39 baht £307- now that's hard to ignore. So almost £90 more per day, 20 days on the ground comes £1800 and that's just the extra spend😨

Khun Jazz shot 42 on the back 9, didn’t realize he faded so much. Still a hell of a performance, but he cost himself huge baht and ranking points with the last few bogeys. Only 23 years of age, he has a bright future ahead of him

Well poor old Harold started off in the leading pair with Koepka and finished off tied for 36th place- now that's fading 😁

Agree on Jazz, from a UK perspective thought Matt Wallace was brilliant playing in the worst conditions of the day- he was +2 on the round playing with the much higher ranked (and sadly back by me) Schuaffle who was +6

Koepka now best price of 7.5 for the US Open 13th June.
