ex aussie fastbowler Brett Lee gave him CPR for a hour on the floor of the studio, but he was gone

who will ever forget his double ton in india,in oppressive heat,he had batting for awhile and went to allan border the captain said he could not gone on.border answered with a now famous quote "well f**k off and we can get a Queenslander out here" jones went to make one of Australias finest double ton in india.

shit he would have been a superstar in twenty 20 cricket

    RIP jonesy

    Top talent and total pro.

In the obit i read, he was so f***d from the heat he couldn't stop pissing himself or hold any fluid in. That's when he said hey,  AB, i gotta go off....and Pugs (sorry), retorted with the QLD quote 😆

The way he was dropped shortly after was savage and apparently he never got over it.

I heard it was in their hotel lobby where he had the heart attack and Brett Lee did everything he could and more to try to save him. No paramedics, docs, or ambulance for an hour is bloody shocking and is a reminder to us all that even if you're staying in the best 5* hotel, but you're in a third world city....you really need to have emergency plans if TSGD.

RIP to a truly great sportsman.

  4. Absolute fricking living legend. Best Test opener ever, no argument. Perhaps if he'd not played 160 odd tests in a row, and had a mid-career break he might have felt it within himself to continue his Test career a couple more years. Not moaning though, he did alright 😉

Youngest player (from any country) to score 6,000, 7,000, 8,000, 9,000, 10,000, 11,000 and 12,000 runs in Test cricket.

First opener to reach over 11,000 and 12,000 Test runs.

5th most runs in Test cricket of all time.

All-time highest non-Asian run scorer in Asia.

Most consecutive Test matches played of all time.

Highest scoring left-hander of all time in Test cricket.

Most centuries in second innings in Test cricket of all time.

Most innings by any opener in Test cricket of all time.

  6. Great match. Credit to the Aussies for coming back from collapse in previous match and losing early wickets in this one.

I never mind losing like that, when we're in it right until the end and and it could have gone either way.

But like Hamilton, he comes across as a proper wankpiece.  Being good at your job doesn't overcome your character/nature/personality or whatever you want to call it.

What makes you think he's a wankpiece, lol 🙂

Day 1 was when he started in F1, some people just wind me up the wrong way and he is one of those sort, a lot like the modern footballers and now with this BLM shit too.....

Plus have you noticed whenever he's having a bad race and has made a mistake he's on the radio complaining about the car ?  He really does remind me of some thai girls in that whatever is wrong it's never his fault. Oh and by the way in last Sunday's race I really do think that it wasn't his fault but the teams fault not to see the pit lane was closed and finally no, it's not because he's black, I just think his arrogance is off the scale.

    EDIT

2016 when Rosberg won the title, little Lewis wasn't a happy bunny then that he was being beaten and when the pressure was on him he didn't like it.

I haven't noticed when he's made a mistake he complains about the car, he does complain about the car when it's not right though, even by fractional margins, because he notices and feels them, and often (although not this year) it's the tiniest margins that decide outcomes.

I honestly don't see or think he is arrogant. I've met him a few times, he didn't come across as arrogant.

In 2016 he wasn't being beaten on the track, he had three PU failures while Nico had none. Nico had also thrown his toys out the pram and demanded, and been given all Lewis' engineers and crew that season. There's also a lot more to it than that.

Watched "The Killing Fields" and "First they killed my father", I have the book of the latter.

Visited the killing fields "museum" in Cambodia mid 90's.

Makes you think twice about "soft, gentle Asians" ...

I visited Auchwitz also, but much younger, maybe because  I was younger (early 30's), and not yet an hardcore expat, maybe also because it was closer to home and the Germans are people of the same culture / religion, it did impact me much more.

Kaing Kek Lev, aka "Duch", died a few days ago. May he burn perpetually in hell 🙂

  10. Governments went a bit loopy didn't they 🥴

I read today that in the UK, £3.5 billion of Covid Furlough Scheme payments were lost to fraud. Yet I had to step in and hold up friends businesses when the government would not.

    Crazy times for sure man.

    Brilliant pics JL, TFP.

As an ex aircraft fitter working for the MOD your pics bring back fond memories, i remember re-building this engine on many occasions, its a BS Olympus IMMSMC.....

    Yorkshire Air Museum-3336.jpg

    Yep.

But by the time Concorde flew with it BS had been consumed by RR, they chucked SNECMA a bit of work on it, which ended up with an in service name of RR/SNECMA Olympus 593 Mk610-14-28.

38,000lb reheated static thrust, 43% thermal efficiency, which for many years was the highest produced by any thermodynamic engine of any type or kind. The right now Mercedes F1 engine has 50% thermal efficiency, which is the current record holder.

Excellent point and I hadn't even thought that might be the case. I still think he's an arrogant little prick though and have never had any time for him from day 1.

LH is an arrogant little prick?

    Why do you think that?

When was day 1 for you?

I'm not trying to start a row here, just honestly curious why some folks judge LH in this way?

    🙂

The problem currently with F1 is that unless a mechanical failure, driver rule indiscretion or pile up at turn 1,  Hamilton being the best driver by far driving the best car by far is going to win virtually every race.

I watch the start just in case the turn 1 pile up occurs and then ideally watch some footy or golf then briefly turn back a couple of times to see how far Hamilton is leading.

You're watching history being made though. Absolute perfection. It was Ross Brawn who built the Mercedes team, not Toto. That was after he had won the drivers and constructors champs in 2009 with his own team (and Jenson).

Ross Brawn is the best F1 team principal, ever, end of. Ferrari with Schuey. Brawn on his own. Then built the team back up when Merc bought it after he'd had to lay off half his staff. He left with humility, pride, and honour (and a fucking big £cheque£) when Merc bought him out.

Everyone at both the Merc F1 plants, the engineers who know what they're talking about, been there, done that, seen 20-30 years of drivers come and go....they all say LH is top. He pings out qually laps that the data, sims, and strat AI say should not be possible.
