  1. Sounds like they want to do a Dubai ......currently a piece of shite in the desert owned by some old camel herders.

    Full article below:

Saudi Arabia is reportedly planning to serve alcohol at a beach resort in its £400bn megacity Neom, in what would be a first for the conservative kingdom.

According to the Wall Street Journal, a premium wine bar, cocktail bar and a "champagne and desserts" selection will be on offer at the resort, on an island in the Red Sea.

Consuming, brewing or selling alcohol is illegal in the Kingdom, and those who fall foul of the draconian rules can face heavy fines, imprisonment or up to 500 lashes.

The island resort is situated in the Red Sea and is part of the Neon megacity complex, which abuts the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba.

There are hopes that the sale of alcohol on the island will provoke less ire among pious citizens than if it were available on the mainland, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The paper said it had seen publicity images for the resort, which showed cocktails being poured next to bottles of spirits, while some adverts featured women in bikinis and shirtless men on beaches.

Neom subject to own unique economic legislation

The resort "will ignite the Red Sea as a new destination for superyachts and attract some of the world's most affluent and influential people '', according to the publicity material.

The relaxed drinking rules appear to apply only to Neom, rather than nationwide, with the city reportedly subject to its own unique economic legislation.

Foreign workers have said access to alcohol would have an impact on whether or not they chose to move to Neom in polling.

Neom, the brainchild of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, has been billed as a lavish, futuristic project with flying cars, robot dinosaurs and a huge artificial moon. One area of the city, called The Line, forms the shape of a 100 mile-long belt. Another part of the city will supposedly float on water.

But the project has been mired in controversy as the construction site is based on land claimed by the Howeitat tribe, who say they have been forcibly displaced.

In April 2020 a member of the tribe, Abdul-Rahim al-Howeiti, was shot dead by Saudi security forces during an argument, after he refused to leave his home. Saudi Arabia also recently jailed two tribesmen for fifty years after they refused to vacate their land.

Critics of Neom say it is being used to deflect criticism of Saudi Arabia's human rights record. The Crown Prince has been accused of personally ordering the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, the Washington Post columnist who was dismembered in the Kingdom's Istanbul consulate in 2018. He has denied that charge.

More recently a Saudi court sentenced a Leeds University medical student, Salma al-Shehab,
to 34 years in prison over mild criticism of the Saudi leadership on her social media accounts.

  2. Apparently the owners have realised not the smartest thing to do advertising prostitution ( we don't need Mangosteen for definitions). It's still illegal in Thailand. Plus importing Uzbeks ...owners saying they've been hacked usual excuses.

Gave me a great giggle when I first saw it ......

Private Eye's favourite along with 'Sir Roger Fitzlightly'.

Billy was legendary for chasing the young footmen around the Palace. Queen Mum adored him .....

Yes remember what having Mexican food did the next day when we went from Angeles City to Subic Bay in that full van ?:-)

Thanks for the update Mr streak. But in my humble opinion and it's only my opinion mind you they're making the same mistake Secrets made. That being just far too big a menu. And as somebody else said a kid's menu for under 10 years old. I'm guessing they won't see a lot of them in there. As the sign on the door says nobody allowed under 20 years old. Yes yes I know maybe if they stay with their parents in that hotel but I think the chances of that happening are slim to none. That said I wish him nothing but the best I like to see that location flourish once again

Also I hope Moulie has some sort of agreement with Peter from The Beer Garden that she'll be able to go back there should this not pan out.

I'll invite you in to Keys next month and treat you to huevos rancheros, with side orders of refried beans and spicy jalapeño poppers. That'll liven the place up .....if we can see our food with that lighting !!!

Sure hope the road construction on Soi 15 is finished by mid-December. I'm booked at the Centara Hotel over New Years into January, it can be seen partially in one or two of those pics. Would be a pisser if the work was still going on and impeding pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic through that area then.

But with the rainy season approaching, that will slow progress for sure.

I stayed in its sister hotel Centra by Centara couple of weeks ago. There is a little alleyway from Soi Diana that lets you in round the back and zero road works takes about 90 seconds.  Soi and hotel is signposted clearly. Only problem you will have is noise from Soi 15 but traffic you will be fine.

My combined gas and electric bill  is £106, in July I looked at what it would cost to renew my deal with Scottish Power there and then, it would now be £310. I looked again in August a month later and it's now gone up to £466. It actually runs out January 1st, God knows how much it will be then.

Scary shit right there !! I haven't checked mine yet but will look similar. I think there will be major civil unrest when this hits home and means old Vladimir will have won by the simple expedient of turning off the gas. Meanwhile India and China and Iran buying it all instead and opening up new coal fired power stations.

    We're doomed I tell ye !!!!

Isn't that what we all did. We visited Le Pub to see Phil.

I don't quite see how opening the bar next door changes that?

Maybe a couple of pints in Le Pub then next door for the "Seat Action"

    Or, the other way round?🤣

Think when you first came over and walked up the stairs to Peppermint .... OK no tattoos but anything else memorable ???

Sorry I forgot to ask. One last thing and ill leave you alone. What was the process for an EVisa? Did you have to go to the embassy or did you do it all online?

All online and is a real pain the first time as Stills says ..

..but once you have JPEGs PDFs etc of scanned documents much easier.
