Well they're getting off on the wrong foot. The bar is set to open up on Thursday. I was in talking to the old staff and they assured me they were going to open on Thursday and the hotel was now open and operating. I have three very good customers of mine from Australia that are coming over and we're looking for accommodation I told them to email the keys because they were very happy at secrets in the past. No reply. So I sent messages to their Facebook website as well as their email address with the dates that the guys will be in town about 3 days ago no reply.

I guess it's going to be a very quiet opening because I have seen zero about an opening party or even the fact that they're going to be opening on the 1st yet the old staff I spoke with assured me on Thursday the bar would be open and operating. I think they're going to have to work hard on their marketing because it's definitely lacking at this point.

You seen any signs of balloons being blown up ???

That's the one gloomy place and upstairs right on Walking Street. I went in just after they opened ....watched gangs of Indians about to get fleeced. Hustlers outside were bringing up 5 at a time ....... hatchet faced stony hard women .... beer wasn't shocking price but I think the hustle is in the lady drinks scams .....

Popped in here last night, reopened about a week ago, there's girls in white that

you could see on the Pattaya beach, there's girls in blue that you would see on most Spanish

beaches and then there is a very mixed bunch in black lingerie....Tiger beer in a reasonable glass size

(95 Baht)which was well chilled.... Good air-con..good service, mixture of males and females ( if you

are still allowed to use those words..lol..) and didn't see any of our friends from the Indian subcontinent....

Obviously nothing like it was when it was upstairs but a fair place to chill for a bit........(IMHO).....Peppermint......

Sorted out a bit of punctuation mate 🙂

For my own part, I've only at best, half packed. Need to add T shirts, skiddies, dhobi gear and all manner of stuff to take for people like Tea bags and chocolate plus another pair of jeans.

I will probably do it all at the weekend and then run a last minute checklist a few days before my flight.

While I'm here, can I just ask our BMs and confirm the only thing I need regarding entry into Thailand is my Vacc certificates to be in date along with hard copies of hotel reservation and return flight details if requested?.

Plus hang on to your Boarding Pass ...... last few trips asked repeatedly for it. Used to mostly ignore it pre-Covid.

Does anyone know if it's possible & do you have to get a special sim card?

I've been driving there for many years but have always depended upon my personal satnav,ie the missus.

Would be handy to have a proper one that won't give me shit if I take a wrong turning.

Works perfectly mate all over including deepest Isaan  ........

So lets say your state pension is £9000 a year and you are 66. If you have an index linked pension which hits average 3 percent a year for 18 years (the average life expectancy of a 66 year old) with compound interest that pension will be worth around £15000 when you are 84.

Now that £15000 taking into account of inflation will have the same buying power as today but anybody not having an index linked pension will have probably half the buying power of today, that is the worrying fact for many retiring overseas today if they are reliant only on that pension.

My figures are approximate but not having the pension index linked really has an affect if we live the average or more years after retirement.

With inflation currently at 10.1% and probably much higher and that dimwit Truss about to be our new PM all forecasts and bets are off. Her idea of cutting taxes any first week student of economics will tell you only helps the rich (trickle down theory long since discredited) and massively fuels inflation. Zimbabwe and the Weimar Republic here we come ......

So I have 18 more years to live Dave thanks for the info ...... better get on with it.

That only applies to bank cards issued by a bank or institution which is based outside Thailand.

Thai bank account plus Wise seems the most efficient way to obtain cash in Thailand.

Wise cards don't cost 220 Baht John ???? I have a Thai bank account too just not got the phone bit up and working yet.

I'm the same. Used to take travellers cheques and cash mixture when the fee to cash them was cheap.

Would always end up hammering the ATM when I do my budget early on.

220 Baht for using an ATM these days daylight robbery.

  12. Listened to a fascinating late night discussion (my sleep pattern is fcukked) on this topic last night on GB news.

If its a cashless moiety so easy for the government to seize control of an economy. Examples given were the Canadian truckers Go Fund Me 8 million dollars suddenly frozen and the Chinese State control of the Yuan during lockdown.

Thought provoking topic ........ I brought a grand UK to Thailand this last trip and came back with the same amount intacto. Just tapping card in restaurants and stores these days ..... cash does makes you more cautious of spending I find.

  13. Flew out yesterday Swampy very quiet and almost no wait at security (apart from take off your shoes, expected- belt expected, laptop - expected, take out your phone WTF ..... it was in the tray already. I find women guards are the worst these days. That little bit of power thing). Taxi ride out was great but honestly and I have seem some bad ones the longest traffic jam i have ever seen around 8.30am coming in to Bangkok. Every road including airport and expressways. My driver said 3/4 hours traffic it was shocking. Try not to arrive in the morning if possible ....

Flight pretty packed to London. Time passed quickly. Brought my own red wine on board from duty free so ...helped !!

Heathrow arrived 15 minutes early parked up right away. From gate opening to getting my bag one of the first off in less than 15 minutes at Terminal 2 best ever. E-gates waited less than 5 minutes too. Strode out happy as Larry.

then ...my fucking taxi was not there ....oh 10 minutes sir !!! Can't have it all .....roads in London quiet too.

PS going out equally good from T2. How things have changed in a few months.

Just reading about Paxman , a real shame

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-62561558

only two presenters over the last 50 years of UC ... hopefully Victoria Coren-Mitchell will get the job , she is brilliant on only connect

It will be someone who doesn't look like Bamber Gascoigne or Jeremy Paxman that's the only certainty in today's BBC.

Jerry Sadowitz would liven it up a bit ......

Haydn was a former poker playing buddy of Ben's. Basically a lovely guy but a couple of aces short of a full house.

He was perfect for a bully like Ben and he ( Ben) treated Haydn like shite.

The day Haydn left he presented me with his prized possession being a "silver" teapot he kept upstairs in his room. 😄

By the time Larry left, Secrets was in terminal decline thanks to Ben basically ignoring his shareholders and using the company bank account as his own to fund his world wide poker addiction.

Secrets was very fortunate to have had both Larry and Mr Egg as the face of Secrets to the majority of customers. Both were my work colleagues and friends and we all did our best to keep the success story that was Secrets ongoing. It got so bad in the end that Phil and I were always the last members of staff to be paid and I was having to make up the  daily floats from my own funds.

I resigned when Ben returned from a Poker trip  and I could not get a guarantee that Ben had the funds to pay the Thai staff wages. At the time maybe a third of regular expenses were overdue.

Water under the bridge but so sad because when it was good it really was good. So many loyal staff that he simply did not deserve.

Addictions come in many forms but can be equally destructive.

I blame all the goings on on the 4th floor, the Secretologists and of course the goat.

Tournament says change was "on account of a number of factors related to scheduling".
what does that even mean.... I would be furious if I had a ticket for monday night

Scheduling usually means weather ........ Williams v Radacanu would be great fun to watch but Sloane whinge and mine Stephens nah !!!

I think that's what they're called. There seems to a plague of these tiny flies that are attracted to fruits and other plants containing natural sugars.

I have spent a fortune on fly sprays and they seem to congregate and multiply in the wast bin and my fruit bowl etc.

But how do they get there and how do the little bastards multiply so quickly? They have arrived since we have been having very hot sunny days in UK.

I am trying to isolate food waste, and food stuff, but they just keep on coming back.

They are a plague however .................... small glass jar .....fill it half full with apple cider vinegar or plain vinegar with honey and some washing up liquid. Shake .....the jar not yourself !!!!

Cover the lid in clingfilm secure with an elastic band ......pierce smallish holes in the clingfilm with scissors and then leave where they are worst. I used two jars last summer. 48 hours later all the little bastards are gone and dead in the jar. Repeat and shortly not a fruit fly to be seen.
