  3. It's been great fun as always, thanks to the organisers and look forward to next season, where I'm going to have to be strong with my head over my heart with ITFC being in there.

Yesterday was typical of my season really. I was so bloody close to dropping Haarland and bringing in Mateta from my bench and making him captain. Haarland hasn't been on much form and I thought Villa will be on the beach as they'd already secured 4th place. Didn't go with my gut . .

So had Mateta with 20 points on the bench, which would have been 40 instead of Haarlands 4 . . 😣

Bring on next season . .

    Hey! How about this scenario....

    - City are found guilty of Financial "irregularities" and have the title taken away for that season

    - Everton are then relegated for the season they cheated.

    - Leeds are promoted to replace them

    - Southampton then get promoted automatically without playing the Final

    PERFIK !!!

Don't forget Leicester, who have been charged with brazenly breaking FFP when they were last in the Premiership, but they haven't been punished yet, so basically cheated their way to promotion.

They'll more than likely start on minus points next season and so they should.

As long as somehow Norwich don't get promoted by default . . . 🤣

    Oh Dear ...

    From BBC Sport ..

"BBC Sport understands that one manager on Brighton's list to replace De Zerbi is likely to be Kieran McKenna, who has just won promotion to the Premier League with Ipswich Town."

Because of his success McKenna will be linked to a lot of top jobs. Par for the course unfortunately.

While he's got us back-to-back promotions he's only been a head coach for 2 and a bit seasons. No premier league experience as a no. 1 (though was one of the assistant managers at Man U when both Mourhino and Ole were in charge) it would still be a risk if Brighton or Man U took him on as head coach. So it could all be media speculation but could also be some truth in the links.

From McKenna's point of view, he's said when interviewed after we gained promotion to the Prem, "I love it here" and "there's great times ahead for this football club", he's bought a house and family settled, his wife loves Ipswich/Suffolk, kids happy in school and he's only just started on the Ipswich project.

There's lots of factors of course, but I believe one major aspect is how he's backed at Ipswich, both from a senior management/board perspective as well as financially. Reading between the lines and the supposition in that same BBC articles is the new CEO saying that Brighton has a plan that won't be broken for anyone, which intimates De Zerbi would not being backed financially to the level he'd want to take Brighton to the next level. Fair enough, but that will tell McKenna he could be somewhat restricted, though he's actually not a big spender, we tend to take young players with potential and due to his coaching abilities, improve them. Every player in our squad has improved dramatically and Kieran takes great pride in that. Look at Leif Davis and Omari Hutchinson - both have improved beyond recognition.

There's a video interview with the boss of OMG, Ed Shwartz, who is responsible for the pension fund that now have a reduced ownership of 60% of ITFC, who initially funded us when they bought the club from Marcus Evans 3 years ago. We've recently attracted a further £105m investment for 40% of the club. It's only FFP and our sensible buying that are the financial aspects, the money is there. Ed said that at the end of the transfer window in January they called Mark Ashton our CEO to say "are you sure you don't want to buy anyone else?" That says so much about Kieran, he won't waste money and maintaining the incredible togetherness of the squad is his prime objective.

So overall, even if Brighton do come calling, I think Kieran will stay put for now. Just think if he achieves mid table in the Prem next season. What a cv he'll have - back to back promotions from League 1 to the Prem and a mid table finish.

He's destined for great things, no doubt. Right now he wants to get Ipswich back to how we were in the mid 70's to the mid 80's - not finishing outside the top 6 for many seasons, qualifying for Europe 9 out of 10 seasons (the year we didn't was 78 when we won the FA Cup), unluckily finishing 2nd in the top division twice, winning the FA Cup, winning the UEFA Cup and building undoubtedly the best first XI in the league 1980-82 with players like Beattie, Butcher, Mariner, Brazil, Gates, Wark, Mick Mills, Muhren and Thijsen,

Qualifying for the champions league, or European Cup as it was called then, only had the league winners qualifying. If it had been top 4, as it is now, we'd have qualified for the Champions league 4 seasons out of 6.

Such a history and McKenna has embraced that. He's part of the furniture and, for now, I believe he's committed for at least 1-2 seasons, maybe more depending how we do.

Just my opinion - let's see.

Hahaha I thought that I was the only one that noticed how good he was in the short time he was there on loan..!!

I've been involved with the club for over 20 years, part of my involvement being on the player side of things.

I watch a lot of games on behalf of the club (what a chore . . 😁) and have been impressed with him, despite Sheff Utd being dreadful.

There's a few top players on our list, but can't/won't name them, for obvious reasons, though the obvious ones are Hutchinson and Sarmiento, which isn't giving anything away.

It'd be interesting to see if Brereton-Diaz becomes available next season from Sheffield Utd ... He could be a damned good cheap signing (from Villareal)

His name has been mentioned funnily enough.

Though speculation is rife with the fans as to who we'll bring in. The club are excellent when it comes to keeping quiet, usually the first the fans know is when a deal is announced.

One that didn't was George Hirst. We'd had him on loan from Leicester from Jan to June, 2023 and he'd done really well. So obvious speculation that we'd sign him permanently once we secured promotion to the Championship.

Some fan took a picture of him at a hotel as he was checking in, the idiot posted it on the fans forum, which really pissed the club off as we were in final negotiations and didn't want other potential suitors to know he was in Ipswich until the deal was signed.

I think you might surprise a few teams next season Dave. But I'm sure you will know, it will be tough staying in there. Good luck.

We trust Kieran McKenna implicitly and he'll leave no stone unturned in our quest to stay in the league.

You are right, we will surprise a few people next season, they won't see us coming.

The trick is to get the recruitment right, without upsetting the incredible togetherness in the squad.

Can't remember if I've said this here, but our starting XI for our final game v Huddersfield had 8 players who started our final home game v Exeter to secure promotion from League 1 last season. The other 3 were on the bench. Amazing.

For sure we'll need some top players, if we can either sign or loan Hutchinson (Chelsea) and Sarmiento (Brighton) again, that'll help and we'll need a couple of top defenders as we did ship too many goals. It was a case of scoring more than the opposition - top scorers in the division with 92 goals.

Still hasn't sunk in. I think it will on June 18th when the fixtures are release. Hope we don't have Man City away first game . . 😮
