Flew in from Tokyo yesterday. Landed at the new satellite terminal, very quiet. Got the shuttle to the main terminal and straight into immigration with no queue! Fastest ever for me!

Sorry to hear that mate.
Did he have any previous history of mental health problems?, because it can hit you at any time. I was recently in hospital in January for 10 days with mental health problems, basically had a mental breakdown after burying my sister.
I also have previous history of depression and suicide attempts.
So if there’s any previous history it could be a relapse mentally.
No mental health issues that I am aware of. He was a heavy drinker and inPattaya spent most of his days in the bars in soi bukhao. He had just sold up in the UK and moved to Thailand for good the week before the fall. He had been to Pattaya quite a few times, staying for a few months at a time until his money ran out.

Uppy never seemed the suicide type, I expected him to drink himself to death, so I don’t believe this was a suicide. I guess we’ll never know what happened…

Just heard a friend of mine jumped to his death from his 4th floor balcony in Soi Bukhao. His name is Martin Upton, known as Uppy. He normally stays at Sutus court. Martin is from my home town of Swindon and only recently moved to Thailand for good. RIP Uppy!

Flying out this morning from SUV, check in (Thai) was a breeze but it took an hour to clear security

Flew back from Danang yesterday land at SUV about midday and again no queue at immigration

Shows how variable this can be…I landed Friday 4pm and there was no queue at immigration! Saturday morning I flew to Danang so after reading about the departure queues I got to Swampy 3 hours before the flight and only minor queues, maybe 15 minutes.

Thanks, lots of information there.
I had seen airportel on my search but the last was a couple of years ago, good to see they are still up and running.

I’m flying into BKK for one night then flying from DMK to Siem Reap for a few days.
is there a luggage storage option at DMK?
All the search options seem to be a few years back pre covid so was after a more recent update.
thanks!

Think getting there for sunrise is overrated personally. Make sure you go and see some of the other temples locally as well. I thought a couple of them were as good if not better than Angkor wat.
Thanks, I’ll see what other places are in the area. I will get a driver so hopefully they will advise, although always worry they take you to where they get the best kickback…

Rainy season. Depends on your tolerance for wet, hot and humid...might be a factor? Good time to visit Tonle Sap (boat trip) & several waterfalls.
The Golden Temple Group (mentioned above) are good hotels. Well run. I've stayed at a couple of them. Nice pools. Check their website(s) for special deals (e.g., room, transfer, meal(s), massage, etc. https://www.goldentemple.asia
I usually hire a driver with a nice car (AC, local knowledge, ice cold water) for touring around. Makes life a lot easier especially with early starts (recommended).
My guy Tol: https://www.facebook.com/siemreap.taxidriver.5There are some excellent restaurants in Siem Reap -- check it out. You can do a lot better than the usual tourist fare for very reasonable prices. Drinking on Pub Street is fun if there's a decent crowd.
There's more to see at Angkor than just the main area. Do a little research and get out a bit. Check the prices on multi-day passes (you can buy them on the first morning or the night before).
Thanks. Does the Rainy season finish in Nov like Thailand? If so I might delay until then.
I will go with a driver as I see the temple area is pretty extensive!

I do not have an answer to your question as to whether or not this is a good time, but I did make this trip from Thailand and I very much enjoyed it.
When I retired (2016 or so), I booked a 45 day stay in Thailand and broke that up with a 4 day visit to Siem Reap. When I returned from Cambodia, I met my current GF on the day that I returned. I am not sure why that is relevant, but somehow it feels like it is.
In Siem Reap I stayed at a hotel called "The Golden Temple". It was a little pricey, but was a good base for the trip.
I spent for a 3 day package on a tour of the temples. In retrospect that was over kill, but I did learn a lot.
After my all day temple walking, I was too tired to explore the adjacent bar area.
A pic that has been taken a million times, but still resonates with me.
Thanks for the hotel tip, looks good!

As tourist numbers are down, is this a good time to visit?
Any tips or recommendations for Siem Reap?

I've got a Halifax Clarity Card recommend by them, the rates on it is excellent.
I'll admit though I've been a mug for years and kept on using the debit card occassionally for cash. I've got a Starling Account now, and that that is also a recommended one- the rates on that are also excellent.
However if you were just carrying a single card the Barclaycard wins it. I'd be tempted to switch if I wasn't so lazy!! I'll keep on carrying the 2 cards🙂
I have a clarity card and used it for years when travelling.
No foreign transaction fees. To get cash I take it in the bank rather than use ATMs. You are charged interest on cash but I bank online and pay it off straight away.

my old passport wouldn’t scan at LHR for the past 4 years, renewed earlier this year and still doesn’t scan. I think my name has a marker as a trainee immigration officer asker their trainer if “that was ok?” Pointing at something on the screen against my name. I couldn’t see what it was but I think someone with my name is on the wanted list….it’s not me honest!
