    Greetz from the USA.

I'm a pretty experienced hand on the Pattaya scene, first visit was a shade under 25 years ago.  I've lived there on and off, well-known customer at the two Tahitian Queen bars.  Was a partner in a bar in Soi Diamond, managed a few others.  Been around the country, some places I still need to get to.  Know my way around pretty well.

Long-time poster on the Pattaya boards, starting with the old and sadly forgotten Misty's board.  In at the ground floor on the Secrets board and was at the several opening parties.  Long time poster and former mod on Pattaya-Live.  Also have a name on Addicts and Talk (is that still around?).  Been off all the boards for several years.

Many will know me from my old board name, a combination of an American rocker's name and something Thai chicks love to eat.  I've decided to make a clean break from that board name, and to start fresh.  If you've guessed who I am, you will know why, and I ask that we leave that board name and all its associated baggage in the past.

I'm looking for a stress-free place I can come to chat with friends old and new about Thailand and anything else I know a little something about.  EXCEPT POLITICS.  I get enough of that elsewhere on the internet, and it will not advance the purpose of me signing up here.

I'm looking forward to getting back in touch with folks who know me, and making some new friends.  So, without further ado...

    See ya on the board!

No idea who this guy is!

The wife has just renovated a large house and they stripped all the render and plaster off and took the ceilings down. I popped in from time to time and watched the guys re-plaster the place.

It realy is an art and I had nothing but praise when the job was finished.

Smooth as glass and all done in a few weeks.

    👍

That sounds brilliant. I'm not as fast as these guys. I don't do much these days. Not time served but have done my city and guilds equivalent up here. Three months hands on every day, trained by plastering instructors and tested through the courses. Very hard work. Walls, ceilings, columns, dry lining, archways etc. Plus years of on the job experience. These guys on the big jobs are great. It's one of those skills you get faster at the more you do. Me, I've a sore shoulder today just from one ceiling yesterday. Too old for it but can do when I need to.

This is the one job I found the hardest. Last time called in plasterer...its like a major workout .

    Hi John,

It's easy when you know how. I've been plastering for years. My gripe and groan it was a very tall staircase ceiling, about 13 foot I had to use a ladder as a platform was no good. And where the stairs twisted and turned the rake of the ladder was near vertical. Couldn't hold the hawk in one hand and butter the trowel with the other. After every spread I had to go down the ladder to refill the trowel then up again. Pain in the ass. Small area but terrible access.

Plastering is a one go job if you mess it up you're knackered.

This was a ceiling skimming over artex. My routine is to knock all the high points from the artex, one coat pva bond with a 5/1 water bond mix. A base coat of skim then a dry rub. A second runnier coat to fill and smooth out the base. A dry rub followed by two wet rubs. Cut some corners with this yesterday as time was running. But still a nice job.

Anyhow, useless info I know but it is time consuming and the timing is all important. Very easy to get it wrong if you have never tried it before. In fact I'd bet 100% get it wrong if never tried before. Not one of these jobs you learn by watching youtube:D

my speciality//  the russian led govt then named us the british american terror flieger.  and yes dresden was an inferno, the air wasnt on fire but most of the oxygen was burned.  it was also the beginning of the end as far as bombing uk was concerned.    the bombing of london, and any city in the uk was also intense and the total bombs in london far exceeeded dresden, just over a longer period.  dresdan was, sadly, a pr job for the jerries.  bu then again cologne, koeln, was also bombed but with the order that the cathedral be left standing, that from churchill as a result of coventry.

We came so close to winning. Oh well, Merkal won in the end.:D

A friend visited the memorial site in Hiroshima and noticed all the school kids crying and a general outpouring of grief. No mention of the atrocities committed by the Japanese. Also excluded from their school history books.

Of course not. History teaching is very selective. Same every Country.

great pics as always.  your next trip should be Dresden.  i was there before the wall came down, and they had simply built a wall around muchof the old city and left it.  no digital back then sadly but I remember calling my mum and in the chat saying what a mess we made.. her words.. well you should learn more about coventry.  war is what it is.  and the nips started it in asia

Debatable Tommy. If we dig too deep about Wars then there's nobody innocent.

Yeah, Dresden got bombed out of existence. As did Coventry but I think Dresden was hit harder. Even the air was on fire the bombing so severe. Wars are fought for money and power. And they use the innocents to do their evil work.

Fascinating photos in this thread. Really good to see.

Not sure. All I know is Hiroshima and the A Bomb are required learning in Japanese schools!

So it should be. I watched a very interesting history documentary on this, their reasoning that America hit civilian targets was to shock Russia, to show them what Moscow would look like should they go to War with the US. I believe that.

Including the cocktail, the meal was under 1000 baht for two of us.  Pros are the fact that it is decent food, a wide variety on the menu and reasonable price, coupled with the stage show.  The 'con' for me is the fact that it is not totally enclosed and relies on fans to keep the temperature down.  Last night it was not too bad; it is one of the few non air conditioned restaurants that I visit.

Some familiar food there. Looks nice and well presented.
