Smiler - is the village rockin ?

Yesterday it was in our family compound 100%. Not the usual water war but it got loud and messy. Was a great day. Tell the truth I have been suffering today but a 14 hour session is going to take its toll I guess. ๐Ÿ™„

I did Songkran once in Pattaya and whilst I enjoyed the fun during the day, I got fed up with the wankers that still wanted to wet you late at night, even in Walking Street.

Now I make sure I am back here in the UK during this time!

It's my first time for 3 or 4 years and TBH mate it's not my favourite Thai celebration. We have friends and family from Pattaya here for 2 or 3 nights because it can get too full on down there.ย

And then there is the carnage on the roads...ย

  3. Well it won't be long before Songkran and some expats will be telling Thais how they should be celebrating ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜.ย

Never fails to amuse me when I hear or read comments along the lines of "it goes on too long" or "it's too noisy" or "it's too wet" ๐Ÿ‘€ or "not meant to be like that, it's not traditional" etc etc

IMHO it is whatever Thais want or choose how to celebrate their new year celebrations.

I get the impression that they really want to let off a bit of steam this year. Even if larger scale organised events don't go ahead there will be some serious partying on a house to house basis. Certainly will be in our part of the jungle anyway.ย

My plan is to accept it and enjoy, plan b is to stock up, hide in the house and complain bitterly on social media ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ˜ฌ.ย

My wife, child, brother, niece and best mate have covid and it ain't Omicron because, if it is, it isn't mild. Other than my daughter the others have really got it bad including one calling an ambulance. My wife is really low with bad headaches and difficulty breathing with ease. My brother is confined to a room in Plane France unable to ski after getting covid on his 2nd day in the resort.

I have tested negative again today and am keeping well away from my wife and daughter, bugger the idea of catching it to get the thing over with.

Edit 22 Mar 22:ย  another best mate has tested positive and last night my brother tells me my nephew has now tested positive. My daughter is still positive (day 5 test) but thankfully, so far, I am testing negative again.

Stay safe Dave, hope the family recover soon ๐Ÿ‘.

Well done, impressive Thai customer serviceย

Yep, credit where it's due, it is impressive Thai customer service.

This is my fourth time and TBH I have no complaints aside from the obvious faf and hassle of having to go through the whole procedure. AND of course the extra money I have spent on quarantine, PCR tests, insurance etc. Really try not to think about that.....

I just registered, am traveling 23/03.

Was straight forward enough although I have had a bit of practice over the last couple of years ๐Ÿ™„.

First time I have booked a SHA hotel through Agoda though.

Woke up this morning to find the Thai Pass has arrived ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜ƒ so that was sorted within 24 hours.

    I used my Hotmail account.

I booked the SHA Hotel through Agoda, 4 days before applying for the Thai Pass.ย

Just so you know, over the years taken pics of girls in Thailand, most did not seem to care as a general rule. Of course, I never told them that I was on a Thailand forum, was going to share on a "boys club" forum and was that Ok with them? I will say that several of them said it was OK to take their pictures, but please DO NOT put on any forum.ย

For those girls, I never did and still to this day have not. There were several, and always tried to be a gentlemen you know?ย  I have taken "criticism" from a few on the Secrets Forum.ย  I was "bragging" apparently. Of course these same guys are ones who said at one point or another that " the forum is dead, no one posts pics, it's not what it used to be" Blah, Blah, Blah....

Alot of nice looking gals in Thailand....that's for sure.ย

    IMG_7684.jpg

I just can't see how taking photos of prostitutes/hookers is somehow bragging?? Unless of course others are jealous that a guy has the money to spend on paying for his pleasure.

  8. Easy enough to buy a drone in Thailand, check out Big Camera shops.

You need insurance, register the drone with CAAT and get a license for the radio controller. Cost around about 4k baht.

Bloke I know has one in his wife's name and he is down as a pilot on the paperwork.

The Thai authorities are serious about drones if you get caught using one illegally, apparently.

Just seen other posts and the 250 gram thing means dogshit if the drone has a camera, still needs to be registered.

Told my wife not to eat them but I am just a husband. As you know if another Thai tells them it's ok then that voice matters.

We are now sitting in A and E awaiting blood tests, ECG and other tests for toxicology, that is the result of a poor decision.

She won't be making bad decisions again hopefully.

Hope she is on the mend soonest Dave.

  10. Did a couple of weeks back in November 2020 and another 2 in June/July this year.

Learned a lot from my first experience - the days revolve around food, I spent another 10k baht for a hotel with better food on my second trip and it was worth every single satang. Also brought a load of cold cuts, cheeseboard, biccies, crisps, chocolate and treats with me. I am a coffee snob so took my own supplies, French press and enough fresh milk to get started.

Second trip I wasn't allowed to leave the room so I hired an exercise bike which was well worth it. Brought a devilishly difficult 1000 piece Jigsaw, first time I have ever completed one! Never travel without my Firestick for Netflix etc iPad and of course my phone. I brought an extension lead both times.

Booze?? I brought a bottle of wine and a couple of minatures but I am not much of a drinker.ย

    Good luck mush ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š

    That's appalling.

This new strain is the most infectious yet so if it takes hold in Thailand will be more people carted off.

Did you have pay for this?

    No

That's a main reason why I'm not making any attempt to get to Thailand at the moment.

Was this picked up by a test on arrival?

    No

Very sad to hear this, hope you can unwind with your family after this detour and enjoy the days going forward.

    Thanks Dave.ย

Mods let me know if you want me to make a separate thread regarding my experience or add to an existing one.

Will do my best to put something together over the next couple of days.

You have to be joking. You are prepared to go into a 10 day isolations based on the other information you posted up.... absolutely ridiculous.

Get a positive PCR test in Thailand and it's off to hospital whether you have symptoms or not for 10 days.

    My source for this information?

Young Smiler, Mrs Smiler and myself have just spent 10 days locked in Ampoe Phen hospital.

Really quite frightening how freedom/liberty is suddenly taken away....

  13. When I checked out the hotel gave me a rapid antigen test kit and asked me to use it in 6 days time. I am then supposed to take a photo of the results and send it via Line to the hotel.

I haven't heard about this before TBH so I will do a bit of research when I get back to the village to establish if the test is mandatory.

Now for a late afternoon and evening of debauchery ๐Ÿ˜‡.

  14. Just about to check out of my 1 night quarantine hotel so a quick update.

I flew KLM via Schiphol from Heathrow, cursory glance at my paperwork at check in, took about 30 seconds. However they really went into detail at Amsterdam. We were late leaving because a couple of travellers didn't pass the checks and their bags had to be unloaded. Sorry I haven't any details.

Swampy was no busier than theย  couple of times I have flown in over the last year. All very smooth till you go through customs and then just mayhem as only the Thais can do it.

Utter panic and confusion with people trying to find their respective hotel reps and hotel reps trying to find their guests. I called mine while I was waiting for my bags so I knew where they were. Had to wait about 15 mins for the other 3 people who were staying at my hotel. While I was having a ciggy outside I met up with a Swedish guy who was in the same quarantine hotel as me last year. He flew via Dubai and said he also saw people refused boarding, again sorry no details.ย

Got to the hotel and a bit of drama, an old guy who was wearing winter clothing in 34 degrees heat, passed out during the check-in process....

Got my PCR results at 6 this morning and have just been chilling in the room making arrangements for tonight. Got an amazing deal on Agoda for a room that normally costs 4k baht, special price today 995 baht.

I've downloaded the morchana app as according to the nurse who did my PCR the Thailand Pass one doesn't work. Will turn it back on when I get to the hotel in about an hour. Back to the jungle tomorrow afternoon.

Lots of guys over thinking the process of getting to Thailand IMHO. All this "what happens if" is pointless, take care of what you can control rather than worry over what you can't.
