Latest pic of the potential Mookata and the start of something new just further down the road. Markings for 16 smaller units round the perimeter and something bigger in the centre.

Wise is currently 46.4508 , transfer £1k the fee is £6.40 , so effective rate is 46.1535
XE.com looks better if no fees 👍
There is an additional fee if you pay via debit or credit card so avoid if possible. I think it's been mentioned in another thread that Wise' website and app used to default to bank transfer but nowadays defaults to debit card so you have to manually change it back to avoid the extra fee.

Wise have a comparison tool which will show you what you'll get for your money compared to other services. They're often not the best but speed, ease of use and reliability should also be taken into account.
I personally never hold money in Wise and do an online transfer to fund it as required. Still instantanious up to 50,000THB at the moment but I've noticed the cut off point between instant/next day has varied in the past.
50,000THB is also the maximum limit that can be sent via Wise to banks other than Bangkok, Kasikorn and Siam.

Just heard Tony, the former boss of Murphy's Law on Soi LK Metro passed away in his sleep.

The Irish bar is where I had a couple of quiet beers today. None of the 4 bars in the street behind the Irish bar were open today and it looks like only one may still be operating.
As Dave says, maybe only open at night and there was one day a week they didn't open at all IIRC. Looks like Soi Nitipat is a bit further away from the river, but still walkable with a bit more choice.

I've stayed at the CitizenM Hotel. Access is via a covered walkway and about 100m from the airport exit. "Trendy" place with unnecesary gadgets like multi-coloured shower lights controlled from an ipad, but close, nice bar and breakfast and a reasonable price from what I remember.

I got a new laptop when I was back in the UK and it came with Windows 11. I tweaked a few settings to make it look more familiar but (fingers crossed) it seems to be running fine. And exceptionally fast to boot compared to my old system.

The Mut Mee is a lovey place to sit and drink with a great view over the Mekong and the Friendship bridge.
A mate has stayed there a couple of times and we would often meet at the Irish Bar as it was about midway between us. The owner was some kind of weird artist IIRC.
The street behing the Irish Bar had a handful of bars in it - is that Boxing Street or is there another bar area I'm not aware of?

The insurance companies will go belly up.
Both the port and the ship were insured and the boss of Lloyds reckons about US$3b in payouts, but seems quite nonchalant about it.

Arrived in to BKK at around 9:15am on Thursday. Usual long walk to immigration and it was deserted. I could have walked a bit further to fast track but just chose to go up the ramp where I joined a queue of one person before seeing an officer.
Bags took at least another 20 minutes and mine was among the first lot through.
Customs seemed to be active, which is almost a first for me, and I saw a couple of people being asked to put their bags on the X-Ray machine.
Arrivals concourse was quiet with no problem finding Mr. Ts driver at Gate 3 and we were leaving the car park just after 10:00am. I noticed from his car park ticket he'd arrived around 7:30am, presumably dropping someone off, and had therefore been waiting around 2.5 hours for me.

There have been reports all the lights on board went out and they reported loss of propulsion a few minutes before the collision.

They installed pier defences on one of our local big bridges to withstand shipping collisions but not sure if they would stand up to someting as big as this.
