  1. Good day all!

I'm away from Thailand for a little while and realized that some subscriptions do not work when outside of the Kingdom. Can anyone recommend a free VPN  for Thai servers, the best one for value that they use? Even if you know someone else who has one, a name would be great. Thanks in advance guys n gals!

  2. Hello all.

As you may know, there is a war in Ukraine and regardless of your political stance, it's wrong and thousands of people will die (and have already died). The Russian dictator is responsible for this and only he it seems can stop this. He is suppressing and silencing his own people, often with violence, those who stand for humanity. There will be a nuclear disaster if he instructs the bombing of the power plant he ordered to shell recently. Millions of people around the world will be affected by radiation. He doesn't care...he must be stopped. Please follow the link if you can join the protest to stop the war...it's today in Bangkok.

    SAVE UKRAINE  🇺🇦🙏❤️🌏

Dear Ukrainians and our friends in Thailand, we urge you to support our Motherland and its people by joining the peaceful demonstration against Russian aggression, which is taking thousands of lives on our land.
The demonstration will take place tomorrow, March 5, 2022, at 4:30 pm in Lumpini Park near the Public Library (duration 1 hour)

The event was agreed with local authorities with the following conditions:
Follow standard guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID 19 - wear masks and keep your distance.
Do not step on the grass and benches, do not try to climb the monuments.
    Do not succumb to provocations.
The truth is with us, God and the whole world.
Invite friends and distribute in public.
Here below also link to the exact location on google maps: copy and paste.

Thailand has reciprocal agreements with some countries to recognize each others drivers licenses without the need for an IDP provided the license contains photo ID and is in English. Countries include the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand. This agreement may not have filtered down to an individual BiB who may insist on an IDP.

If you are other than a tourist or visitor, ie you have a non-immigrant visa, you are expected to obtain a Thai drivers license within 90 days. Again, an individual BiB may not enforce this but insurance companies probably will.

Hi mate, what is a BiB by the way? My insurance requires an IDP to be covered for any accidents etc or a Thai licence. I would rather wait and save money and get it done when I finally get back home. I'm not sure if I would need a Thai licence on top of that- just seems to much of a headache when my IDP should be enough. Thanks for the info mate.

There is no test for the IDP. It's just a translation of your drivers license that you obtain in your home country and allows you to drive legally in any country that recognizes the document.

If you're looking to obtain a Thai drivers license, there are numerous agents that can help. Most agents the fee paid is for helping with obtaining the required documents, transport to/from the testing center, and a guide to lead you to the various testing stations.

Thanks for that. I am here already which is the issue. If only I had thought about this possibly being an issue last time I was in the UK then I would be sorted. I assumed that the UK licence was well recognised everywhere, least I know now. Cheers.

For an IDP I always used the Post Office in LHR Terminal 3 after checking my bags in ... but that depends on the day and time of your flight of course.

I did quite an extensive search for a mate some time ago and the cheapest at the time was both licenses for 3,000 baht but you still had to go to the office to watch the film etc. This was in the office on New Plaza nearest to the public toilets..

Certainly when I checked at the time there was no possibility anywhere of just "buying" it.

I knew a someone who had a contact for this sort of thing but I wasn't too comfortable with it. I can wait to try and sort something else out. Thanks for the info mate.

No official International Driving Licence, many similar used to be available on Khaosan Road but are fake.

Thai licences are not difficult to obtain legally, but are valid for car or bike, they are separate licences.

Official document is International Driving Permit available in your home country.

For UK residents who plan to travel abroad, if you have a full UK licence, go to the Post Office and buy one  for £5.50

International Driving Permit | Post Office

Thanks for the heads up- yeah, if only I was in the UK. So much cheaper and simpler to sort out.

  7. Good day to you all!

I was hoping someone had a contact or information on how to acquire an International Driving Licence here in Bangkok/ Pattaya. I heard that you can 'sort' it for a small fee and it's completely fine and genuine- just that someone else can pass the test for you. I have a full UK licence but have heard that many people fail the mandatory test because the translation is not accurate which screws up your results. The other option is to send off my UK licence and wait for it in the post. What do you think or/ and advise? Hope someone can give me an idea as to what works here. Cheers guys!😬

  8. I feel for ya Jambo, when you go up against your other half and her country (even though it's just a suggestion) you face a losing the argument no matter how much logic you throw that way. I've seen it with friends and their partners- not worth the headache mostly.

But did you know that in the UK, they offered the vaccine to everyone in the order they released in terms of high risk categories and order of occupation. Even undocumented people are asked to come forward with no risk of further action taken against them. This is for the sake of keeping everyone safe. That policy should be everywhere- not sure what the plan is exactly over here.  I must admit- the way they (Thai Gov) have got people in quarantine and how they have dealt with it, is pretty good. Quite pricey though!

But on the other side, it would be nice if our governments recognise that we expats are not going to fly back to our home countries just to get the vaccine and deal with heavy costs due to quarantine and risk not being able to come back. Whether it's the UK (my home), USA, Canada, Australia or wherever you are from- I think the Embassy's or whoever need to help us with getting shots into our arms. Hope someone can keep us updated when we can do that here.

    Good luck all!

  9. Good day Bangkokers!

I know that entering Thailand you need a policy that covers COVID-19 but I'm looking for a policy that also covers personal belongings too. Is there a stand alone insurance company that someone knows of or a company that does both for tourists? I would normally buy a policy from my home country but I'm not there and locally, no travel agent offers that service where I am. Have any of you met anyone or know of someone in a similar situation where you needed insurance while you ere already travelling?

What are the best deals for insurance to cover medical and possessions for expats in Thailand. What have you boys n girls signed up for while working over there?

These are both options I will need to look at particularly the first one (most probably with 'Tune'). I was just hoping t get cover for my laptop, phone etc.

Thanks in advance for your advice on this matter.

  10. Hello all, sorry for the late replies and thanks for the advice. Yes, @Freee!! and @Stillearly we have credentials including teaching in China for 5 years and a year now online. I'm not excited by the wild parties or such and neither is my wife so we are dedicated to teaching.

@Yesitisdakid great insight cheers! Love the GIF btw! Yeah, so one company said that the costs we would have to pay were between 10,000THB- 12,000THB which nearly gave me a heart attack, This was the reason I decided to look for a forum and found this site. Nice one!

  11. Hello Thailanders! Locals and expats!

I'm hoping to visit one of my favourite countries again and hope to stay a little while longer this time. Due to the ASQ requirements/costs it makes sense to stay longer.

Just a question on visas if anyone knows any information. Firstly, I intend to have a long holiday with my wife but if the opportunity arises we could stay longer and work. Does anyone know if it's easy enough to change the TR visa to a working one? Would much appreciate any advice/ information that would help.

Thanks a million and hopefully it won't be long till we can have some of that Thailand goodness! Ciao...
