I used to do all the phone service for a northern mining town that had a very cosmopolitan population - there were people there from all over Europe, many who had become displaced due to WWII and got jobs in this mine after immigrating to Canada after the war and were still there 30-35 years after at that time; my contact at the mine who arranged all the work orders for phones was a woman I got to know quite well and I recall her telling me once that she didn't like Italians very much - apparently when she was younger she worked in a bar and dining lounge back east where her Italian boss would have her go around all the tables at closing time and pick out the maraschino cherries and olives from the empty glasses, and put them back in the containers for the next night's customers...

A girl I know started work as a waitress at a quite well known restaurant in Pattaya. She was told when collecting the plates at breakfast to remove any untouched sausages or tomatoes and put them back in for reheating and to be served again.

    Farang owned, not Thai.

Nottingham Forest sack Steve Cooper and hold talks with Nuno Espirito Santo

And as a Forest fan I'm not at all unhappy he's gone. They would have gone down last season if Leicester hadn't imploded and this season has been awful bar 1 great game against Villa.

If he'd stayed in charge I honestly think we'd have been relegated.

  3. My old Border Collie. An absolutely brilliant dog that I miss to this day even though he died in 1999.

I used to take him with me in the truck, it was amazing how many times a renowned miserable fork lift driver who would normally make you wait to be tipped or loaded would see him in the cab and would suddenly be your best friend and get you sorted quick.

  4. Once Cole and Marler were taken off it was only a matter of time. Sinckler was never going to be able to handle that South African prop as he hasn't got the nous or the power.

Great effort by the English and to lose by only a point was a fantastic effort.

also ... last time England won the WC I watched the final in Thailand , will be watching this final there as well 🤞🤞🤞 😜 555

You might be watching the final in Thailand again but you won't be watching England.

Head says South Africa, heart says New Zealand.

I think you're right , but after the warm up matches, I wasn't expecting much from England ... so every round is a bonus 😎

I wasn't sure they'd even get out of the group stage after those warm up games.

That match tonight and last night's Ireland - All Blacks game were absolutely the best I've seen for years. Either one would have been a superb final.

I fancied South Africa before the tournament started and I reckon they have enough to beat the All Blacks, not by much but as tonight showed, 1 point is enough.

England the only unbeaten team left in the tournament ... 🤷‍♂️

Well as an Englishman watching that tonight I'm 100% sure that record will go next week. Those Springboks are monsters and if we can lose by less than 20 points I'll consider it a result.

That first half was out of this world.......

Roger Whittaker: Durham Town folk singer dies at 87

Very sad news. I met him in the late 70's, early 80's at the Kilkenny Air show in Ireland. I was the coach driver shuttling them between their hotels and the airfield and he had his own little plane.

The man was an absolute gentleman and a pleasure to talk with, my girlfriend at the time was a 19 yr old babe and she absolutely fell for him and I vaguely remember him doing a set at the hotel on the Saturday night which went down well.

    RIP Roger.

  9. I didn't watch the first match with the All Blacks and France as I was working but I have watched the England and Wales matches and both of them were brilliant. George Ford was awesome and that had to be his best ever game for England.

Wales and Fiji was a classic and with 15-20 minutes to go Wales were bossing the game but what a finish. I was tingling at the end and felt so sorry for that Fiji player.

I am surprised that you found Emirates better than Singapore Airlines (SQ). But I agree that it all depends on your personal experiences. I have been a big fan of SQ, but when I flew with them last year in economy, it was very disappointing. The service levels have definitely dropped (like no hot towels, mid flight snacks etc).

My main problem with Singapore was the flight times. I think it's something like 13 hours to Singapore from Heathrow and then 2 hours to Bangkok but looking at maps its seems they fly past Bangkok to get to Singapore ? Plus when I wanted to change my return flight home when I was in Pattaya they wanted £700 - £800 and that wasn't going to happen.

Same with me. Was not impressed with EVA or Thai. My next flight will be with Emirates via Dubai,  although nothing wrong with Etihad although I have not used them for several years  Quatar are doing some good deals but no idea what the service is like

Same here, I'd heard how great EVA were and although I'm not a fan of direct flights I decided to book with them for my last trip.

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. Check in at Heathrow was a long winded pain, I got shouted at by one of their reps at the gate for not having a face mask FFS ( no one else has either luv so what's the issue ? ), the food was below average, the entertainment was nothing to write home about and the seat was uncomfortable after 6-7 hours. Would I use them again ? Only if the price was dirt cheap and it definitely hasn't been any time I've looked.

In the last 2 years I've used Singapore, Qatar, Eva and Saudia and the cheapest and by far the best was Saudia by a country mile.

Like you though I'm paying extra next time and using Emirates again as for me they have always been better than the rest.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. There are times of day when you would think you are in Africa as all the adverts contain only black actors You also notice that nearly all the adverts now with families contain a mixed race family, it has got ridiculous.

I'm glad it's not just me. The ads that really piss me off are where it's older people and yet still it's usually mixed race relationships.

If I ever dated again in the UK is there some new law that states I must date a 'person of colour' or risk the wrath of the woke brigade ?

A few years ago I was introduced to an acquaintance of the guy who owned the guesthouse where I have stayed a few times. He was offering sleeves of cigarettes, Kamara jellies and other stuff. All brought down from the Cambodian border. Now he is one of the first calls I make when I arrive to grab a couple of sleeves of L&M Lights. I'm sure a few on here would know him.

Do you mean the place on Soi Pothole ? If so the place has closed and the bloke that used to sell all the dodgy stuff has died after having to go back to England.

  14. I've just used Saudia and to be honest I wasn't expecting it to be much good but I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised.

Check in at Heathrow was quick, the flight itself to Jeddah was good and the food on the plane was ok for me.

Jeddah airport appears small but has plenty of small cafes, toilets and smoking rooms and again the loading of the plane was fairly easy. Only small downside was that it's a 4 1/2 hour layover and the last hour can drag a bit.

We landed on time at BKK and I was only in immigration for maybe 10 minutes.

Return flight cost me £426 which to me was an absolute bargain and I'd definitely use them again.
