Sky News have just announced that Captain Tom Moore (100 years old) has been admitted to hospital with Covid. Sad news.
Captain Sir Tom Moore, the Second World War veteran who was knighted after raising millions of pounds for the NHS during the UK's first lockdown, has been admitted to hospital with coronavirus.
In a tweet from his official account, his daughter said he tested positive last week and was taken to hospital today for help with his breathing.
He is not in intensive care.

Bloody UK virus!
Ten months without community transmission then some diseased traveler brings the UK virus (B1.1.7 variant) in and it escapes quarantine.
Perth and nearby regions going into full lockdown for, initially, 5 days.
Keep the SA variant out 👍

It's this ludicrous idea of 'zero covid'. The Irish deputy PM hinted at this in a recent press conference. He said that if people want to pursue a 'zero covid' policy that means shutting borders indefinitely, and living with restrictions and an endless cycle of lockdowns. Bizzarely, things have gotten worse not better since the vaccines came onboard. Utter madness.
Bizzare it certainly is..strange days

I went for my first jab yesterday - made the appointment online with a very easy gov't site that had time slots available all day at ten minute intervals; they had the venue set up in the convention centre of a local hotel, using Moderna vaccine; this week is for 65+ citizens, and I thought it would be a little busier but they weren't even using five out of ten stations available when I was there:
After a barrage of the usual covid-symptom questions I was directed to a station where I had a quick and painless jab in my left shoulder, then to a waiting area where you have to sit for 15 minutes with paramedics present just in case somebody has a quick adverse reaction. I'll make another appointment the same way in 28 days for my second jab. My shoulder is a little sore this morning but otherwise no problem.
Here's a gov't social distancing propaganda poster, nice to see that someone there has a sense of humour:

Family 'did Asda shop in blue light ambulance'
A disqualified driver who reportedly went shopping in a second-hand ambulance with the emergency lights flashing has been arrested.
The ambulance was carrying a family when it arrived at the Asda store in Harpurhey on Wednesday, Greater Manchester Police said.
Traffic officers tweeted that the "occupants promptly went inside to do their shopping".
The ambulance has been seized and the driver has been arrested, police said.
The driver was found to be disqualified and wanted by the court.
In a tweet, GMP Traffic said the ambulance was "reportedly carrying a family when it arrived at #Asda Harpurhey with blue lights flashing. Occupants promptly went inside to do their shopping".
They said the vehicle was "believed to have been purchased second hand. The driver has been arrested and is now en-route to custody".
Harpurhey went there early 90s to see bernard manning..was glad to make it out in one piece..this doesn't surprise me 👍

What I can't understand though is how he can promote staycations whilst at the same time closing hotels, pubs and restaurants. It went under the radar, but a law was passed during the week in the UK giving councils the power to enforce Covid related fines until mid-July. So that's an indication of how long this hellish, authoritarian nightmare is going to
anybody guess..I'm just hoping the vaccines and treatments keep getting better and we can get some kind of normality..my parents got their first jab Friday..they've had no ill affects off it..I'm hoping that's a good sign

Matt Wankcock talking about staycations for summer 2021 and tightening the rules on international travel to/from the UK. It seems despite the rollout of the vaccine, traveling in 2021 is going to be harder, not easier.

Just seen that current stats in the Uk are that for a 60 year old, you have a 1 in 100 chance of dying if you catch the original strain, but the new strain is killing 14 people in every 1000. This is quite scary as previously it appeared that only the 75 and above were that venerable.
Just read a terrible story of a 39 year old police officer from Manchester passing away leaves wife and 2 young daughters..heartbreaking. it's not just the elderly at risk. Yes you are right its bloody scary and the sooner I get the jab the better
