Like a quote I read once - "If you want to find out who your friends really are, check and see who will help you move your freezer out of the basement on Saturday" - lol....

Reminds me of the one about dogs, i.e., lock your woman and hound in the car trunk, wait an hour, open it and see which one is just happy to see you.

6 weeks ago, I bought a new CD player here at one of the fancy, dancy open markets here locally. These young guys know their shit right? They speak good English too...you can imagine the look on their face when I roll up with my Honda SUV and ask them to show me some of the "CD players" they have and if one is available LOL!

They didn't even laugh at me..thankfully. There were basically none on the main floor, but they had several in the back room right? This kid brings out this "Kenwood" player, tells me all about it.........OK done deal. Installed in 1 hour, 4k baht out the door.....this thing is great, all my CD's I had shipped over here work well.

Was downtown at Siam Square about a month ago, they had this old school type shop located outside, across the street. This one store had a ton of used CD's...100 baht any one you wanted.......knowing what I had in my collection.....I DID NOT have "Frampton Comes Alive" I have it now......"Do you, you...feel like I do"

Takes me back to when one of the greatest bands no one talks about now had both Steve Marriott and Frampton in it ...

I had an 8 track in my first car when I was age 17, many many years ago. lol

Surely they are well gone now?

They are hard to find and consequently attract a premium, sort of perverse. I still have one in an old Chevy but it tends to eat the tapes and the tapes of course are almost as hard to find now.

  4. I buy them frequently at Walmart.com $5/ea on the Clearance tab. Useful for vehicles that still have a CD player and you can't be bothered with streaming, thumb drives, phones, etc. Sometimes it's fun to go old school, but I draw the line at 8-tracks.

Filed mine January 1st the F Bar only takes 5 minutes or so online if you have all of your account numbers and balances in front of you I do it and be done with it very early every year

Yeah, it's easy. I'll never understand why some don't do it but seems to be the sort that also risk overstay for some reason when extending a visa is pretty easy too.

  6. Reminder to Gringos; today 15 April is Tax day and the day you should be either filing a Fincen/FBAR about your Thai bank accounts or request an extension.

The FBAR is separate from the IRS FACTA Form 8938 if you are minted and have a lot of foreign income/accounts/assets so the former is online and goes to the Treasury and the later (if you are minted and it's a required form for you) goes with your 1040 submittal to the IRS.

Buddha, it's great to be a yank.

I went out today for a few hours, walked over to Soi 7 and bought a PVC gun easily for 300b; from there walked to Soi 6 and hung out for the rest of the afternoon before making my way back down 2nd Rd to New Plaza, then Soi Buakhow to Chayapoon and Soi Lengkee to Soi Diana before getting home @10:15 or so. Everyone having fun and well-behaved during the afternoon, but still too many people throwing water around at 10:00PM and later and they'll probably still be doing it here and there after midnight - they get drunk and just don't want to stop. Traffic was horrendous, walking pace on Beach Rd and not much better on 2nd Rd, and total gridlock by Treetown on Soi Buakhow...

Shitheads; can't live with them, can't kill them.

    Wait a minute.

It's something no one can accuse me of ...

I pay Top Dollar 500 Baht for 6 polo shirts at Tony Candy's!

And only stayed at the Sizzler salad buffet last night for 4 hours, instead of my usual lunch and dinner 6 hours.

I'm on holiday ffs, you have to kick back and spend a bit more.

That said, my wife and daughter do get a bit upset on our return with beans on toast for a month to pay for it, but you can't live like a King all the time ...

I'm still pissed that Sizzler cut out the bleu cheese salad dressing after china plague.

To me it is more about the accuser than the accused.

It is definitely popular amongst Farang business owners to bandy about accusations of cheap charlies not wanting to pay their exorbitant prices, whereas I look to see what I am getting for my money compared to other places and just stay away. So am I a cheap bastard??

All they want is your money (of course - they are in business!)! They aren't your mates, especially if you only see them 3 weeks a year but also if you see them 3 times a week but only in their place of business !!!!

So in conclusion. I am the biggest cheap bastard I know...!!

    Maybe you're just a gaboresque value-consumer.

Back in the early 2000s I seem to recall th girls were going for $20. That may have been short time but I think a lot of them stayed the night.

Yeah, and you'll probably recall it wasn't too much earlier that the fare in Thailand was 500 Baht, the purple persuader.

In PP where US dollars are more welcome than Cambodia script in the tourist areas they used to call the fare the Jackson.

There you  go - probably seemed like a great idea at the time but years, or decades later, and he is embarrassed by what he has done to himself - I guess if you want to walk around looking like a page torn from a child's comic book, it is up to you but I think it's nuts.

I agree and the insanity of it includes they pay, and often a lot to be put in considerable pain for the experience.

I have a friend that had inevitable regrets about a 'sleeve' he put one arm through a couple of decades ago. Took him over a year to get it all inked, something like $5000 in cost. Fast forward 10 years and he's now paying more than $20,000 to get it all laser-etched/burned off and even then you can still see some of it.
