  2. I apologise to whichever BM who considered it necessary to report me for my use of a profanity.

Actually, I have a lot more respect for Thai Spice's excellent response and duly apologise to him for my incorrect use of the word "affinity" when "dislike" would have been more appropriate. :default_biggrin:

Me ? I live where I want, I move where I want, and I usually find what I want anywhere.

    Excellent idea.

So why don't you f**k off, find a forum somewhere else, and change your board name to something more appropriate because you obviously have no affinity to Thailand anymore.

she was passed on to a high ranking officer who told her no it would not be acceptable and the rules regarding the 800k would need to be followed.

So go figure who the hell knows what the exact requirement is and what will be excepted.

It would seem rediculous but as far as UK expats are concerned it may be renewals commencing in July  before it becomes exactly clear what will be acceptable by Immigration in practice. The six month validity of the last of the UK Embassy letters runs out at the end of June do they not?

That’s funny. Are you still the bloke to speak to if wishing to book a room at Secrets hotel?

Email to [email protected] and mention your board name for an upgrade to the best room available.

In the short term better send the email to [email protected] as we are experiencing some problems with Webmail.

I would not recommend a stay before this coming Saturday unless you have absolutely no intention to attempt sleeping during the day. 😀

  6. My phone rang 30 minutes ago:

Alex McLeish heard that my Granny was born in Edinburgh and he wanted to know if I was available for the minnows cup final against San Marino.

I said I was 49, 25 kilo's overweight and had  two dodgy knees.

No problem, says Alex - you will fit in fine in a back 9.

  7. Secrets is on schedule to reopen on Saturday 30th March as "Scooters at Secrets."

There will be an opening Party and all will be welcome.

     Scooters invite.jpg

It will be Scooters infrastructure; retro music genre; hands on management and lively hostesses but in Secrets comfortable airconditioned premises; with its great sound system; kitchen/ food and big screen TV's.

All Secrets Hotel guests are of course welcome to attend.

Agree with you...I have no idea why they would want the venture to fail. It was a shame that Secrets closed... but heck it is not the first longtime bar where the owner decided to close and move on and will not be the last.

Maybe the ones who seem to want the new venture to fail are holding out hope that Secrets will magically reopen up again. Anyway...I hope the new place goes well as I reckon their other bars are well run and good to have a coldie in with no hassles at all.

Good luck to Scooters at Secrets.

Actually, there has been no change of ownership. This is an "association" between two existing business entities.

Paul is still the owner and has personally put a lot of money both into Secrets and the new venture and thus safeguarded the continued employment of existing staff many of which have been with Secrets for a considerable time.

Nevertheless, looking forward to seeing the new lineup of Hostesses.

  9. Relaxing with a large mug of coffee after my 8 1/2 hour drive back from Mae Sot.

I passed no less than three lorries overturned off the side of the carriageway.

Given the respective locations I would guess that in each case the drivers fell asleep. Two of them had rolled down a bank and were on their roofs. The other one was  on its side and had a double trailer stacked up with sugar beet. I suppose the load could have moved but it was not on a curve.

I go into Scooters on Soi 6 when in town and everytime I have been in it has been busy. I usually go to the 6 from about 3-8pm.  The bar is not run along the same model as most bars on the 6 but the girls can be bar fined.

The bar is run along the same way as the other Scooters.... music videos at a good sound level and fair priced beer. Most seem to have a ST elsewhere and head to Scooters for a drink and people watch as they have a pretty good afternoon happy hour and seems to more of a place to go and have a drink.

Different setup than most of the other Soi 6 bars but seems to be more than holding their own. I have been to their other two bars.... and like most bars in Patts.... they have their quiet and busy times but I would say that they get there fair share of regular customers.

Don't know how it will work out for them in the location of the old Secrets but kudos to them for trying and I will drop in and have a drink next time in town.

    cheers

Drinking in the afternoon is not my scene so my visits to the two Scooters not in Soi 6 have both been in the evening when both bars were very busy.

I would expect the same to be what will happen when Scooters at Secrets opens ( I now believe on the Saturday, 30th of this month) with the bulk of the customers being in the evening as is the norm in the Walking Street area.

It is refreshing to read an objective assessment.

Reading some of the comments in this topic it seems to me that a number of contributors would welcome nothing more than the venture being a failure. I wonder why?

There are entire internet forums full of pictures I took in the bars back when.  I think it was Harris Black behind that.  Didn't much care, still don't.  If you put a photo on the internet you lose control of it, it's just that simple.

    You are so right.

I have never really understood why something so self evident seems to come as a surprise or is so upsetting. One just has to accept that once a photo is posted on the internet it becomes available to all to copy. I am not saying morally or possibly even legally that is right but it just happens to be fact.

See you in Scooters @ Secrets me old mucker ....... doesn't quite have the same ring to it does it ?? :default_chris:

Maybe Phil's Le Pub would be a better shout. :default_drinks:

Went into Scooters in Soi 6 a few weeks back and it had all the atmosphere of Stavros's Full English Breakfast Cafe opposite the Archway Tavern.

Nothing wrong with Stavros's brecky - its got that very distinctive after taste which comes from using recycled taxi oil for the fry ups.

    Keep an open mind.

Scooters at Secrets will be very different to the one in Soi 6. Having said that, the best bits will come with them which I know you will like.

  13. I think my first real live gig and my last may well have both featured The Rolling Stones.

The first was at the Crawddady  in Twickenham a zillion years ago when I was still at School and the last when they performed in Bangkok.

I was being taken to both the Crawdaddy and Eel Pie Island where a local geezer called Rod Stewart was playing guitar for the Steam Packet.

waking before dawn and seeing the sun come up.  in thailand that is best part of the day.  sunrise is faster here than in europe, and if you can catch it over a lakeside its even better.

I do that every morning. In fact my body clock wakes me around 5:00 am without fail. I have always been an early riser.

I make a mug of coffee, go back to bed and read my kindle until 6:15 when I let the dogs out after checking which plants they have dug up over night. Most mornings, like today, I then cycle through Bangsaray, along beach road admiring the sea view whilst the sun starts to climb up into the sky.

It is great to be alive any morning but this time of year is particularly wonderful first thing in the morning.

  15. Watched the first episode of "MotherFatherSon" last night.

    It stars:

Helen McCrory as the Mother ( great in Peaky Blinders)

Richard Gere as the Father (Newspaper magnate and control freak)

and Billy Howle as the Son who my granny would have described as being completely "Do-lally-tap"

It is described as a psycho thriller and if the first episode is typical it is going to be one not to be missed. Some great acting by Billy Howle who is definitely the "psycho" in psycho thriller.

  16. It was very busy by midnight.

The Scooters team of builders turned up around 08:00am this morning and got through an amazing amount of work by the time I left around lunchtime.

    I got quite emotional.

I had to make my own cup of tea. 😀

Yes, and if you had meant it tongue in cheek you would have included a smiley at the end.

But it does not matter what I think. You are stuck with me like it or not - I am the last person in the world Ben's going to let back. 😀

Many other former Secrets members do have a choice however and maybe when they read comments like yours they decide perhaps they are not so welcome after all. But that would suit you fine, wouldn't it?

If we have to go through the tedious as fcuk 'I miss and love Secrets' pish again, someone's gonna have to end up getting hurt!

Maybe, when former Secrets members read comments  AND THREATS  like the above they come to the conclusion that perhaps they are not as welcome here as they were lead to believe by people like me who encouraged them to move to Thailand247 in the first place.

I wonder what action a Thailand247 moderator would have taken if I had posted a similar comment to the above?
