Next instalment. End October 2017
Now our main task arriving in Sanur was to find a little house.
It is one of the requirements for the pension visa application, I must have a place of my own, and there is minimum price imposed for it to be acceptable.
Note that here long term rental are payable by year, and in advance....
Minimum price is 60,000,000 IDR per year (3,400 GBP) but good luck to find something at that price. Anyway this system helps keep out the rif raf..
We were a bit lucky on this part, the lady that runs the taxi / tours section in Ramanya hotel is from Sanur and we spoke about our plans she offered to help us. Now it happens her husband is one of the hotel drivers, has a lot of contacts and he found us a nice place from the first day. I did checked around a bit with some agencies and ads, but found nothing better.
So after a bit of negociations (she wanted 120 M, I offered 85M, we settled on 95), down payment paid this morning. A bit of a hassle to get the money through the ATM as the biggest bank note is 100,000 IDR and the ATM can technically (thickness of the bundle) only deliver 30 notes (3 M) at a time....
And cherry on the cake, I had informed my bank in France about possible ATM ops in Indonesia and not to worry, but did not inform HSBS, result the same evening my ATM card was blocked and I received a txt about "suspicious activity" on my ATM card. All sorted after a phone call to HKG, justifying my ID and explaining the situation.
OK, the house is located about 10 min from Sanur main center, and located in a kind of ressort that rents out bungalows by week / month but has also 4 offered on a yearly base.
95,000,000 : 12 = 8,000,000 per months , around 20K Thb, or 500 Euro. This includes hot water, cable TV and Internet. One bedroom only, but enough for us.
I had set a rule that the lodging cost should not exceed 25% of my pension, good job, I am at 20%....
Ok a few pics :
The kitchen weigthed a lot in my decision...(dont forget I am French, so street food in a Styrofoam box isn't gonna do it !)
And last but not least, the bathroom.....
OK, off to the jungle house tomorrow morning !
Will try to keep this updated, but no fiber optics in the jungle, so uploading pics can be a bit of a hassle.
Cheers,
Signed : A very happy frog !

I always wondered what the wing on the roof was for, in that last pic. Equivalent of go faster stripes I suppose. 😊
Naah.....
It are the roof loading bars. In fact 2 elements, sliding in a groove, you adjust them at your convenience when you want to carry something on the roof.
Pretty smart and nice look !

The Espace was the car that started the large family people carrier genre, all those years ago. 👍
Exactly ! And had a fiber body on an aluminium chassis.
Generation 1 :
Mine, Gen 3, same color, same configuration :

Forgot to say,
I am often seeing white Aussie chicks, young and middle aged, here in Bali with plenty ugly monocolor tattoos. Looks horrible on their white skin, and I cant imagine how they will look at 50....
Well, yes I can, as there are plenty of that categorie also ! Fat, white, tattood....horrible.

I haven't own a car since years. Didn't need one in HK, as public transportation is very good and taxis easy and cheap (weĺl, at HKG standard..)
Here in Bali, we move only by taxi. Cheap and convenient.
Last one I owned in France 10 y ago was a Renault Espace diesel. Needed considering the 3 kids !

Tattoos, plastic tits and blonde hair on a thaigirl is a personal nightmare, worst case scenario.
To each his own, had the whole lot on some Asian girls. Makes for variety.

Ok with them except the large religious ones.
Seing a nice tattoo (japanese yakuza style) when in doggy position is ok, having the Budha or the local bible on her back is a definitive turn off for me.
Never had a gf with tattoos before the actual Miss, and I must say I actually like it. Very nice to look at when the sun enters the room in the morning, or in the swimming pool.

KhunDon,
H.H. was one of our favorite retreats when out of BKK for a long weekend in the 90's
Honeymooned in the Sofitel, and later usually stayed there when visiting. Superb, historical place.
Yes, I guess it has changed A LOT, and not necessarily the way us old buggers would have liked it to.
Mind you, the old hand pensioners here say the same about Bali......

Nope, I find them very boring and childish for most of them. A very few have cute gf, makes it more bearable when shooting near the swimming pool.....
Naah, watch a few, bored to death....and thinking that some send them money ......🤣🤣🤣

Next Installment :
20 Oct 2017
Now Kuta, is a bit of a hectic and noisy lifestyle, mainly for young tourist (80% Aussies) out to party…
Not the kind of places I want to live in as a pensioner, besides that it is rather expensive. To note that contrary to Pattaya or Phuket, about all the tourist are here with family or friends and not for pussy hunting.
During our 3 stays here I noted that I nearly never saw an Indo girl with a Westerner. Often in hotel or restaurants Miss Indo is the only Indo girl, except for the staff. In 95% of the cases this is no problem at all, but there were a few times where she was looked at by the locals with lack of smile…
So after 3 days in Kuta, off to Sanur, a small beach resort about 30 min from there. Lovely place, nice beach, a impressive numbers of restaurants (and good), clientele a lot of retired / senior people.
We explored the place during our last trip, and after now a week here, I must say I am in love with the place.
A few pics of the beach :
This is also a paradise for food lovers, we have been eating out every lunch and dinner since 5 days and not had one bad meal.
A few pics of some of the food :
One of the best pizzas I had since VERY long time, generous toppings and perfectly crusty bread. Had it 2 days in a row....
Some Guinness beef stew yesterday evening, nice band playing in the back.
The main drag is lined with restaurants over a long distance. Traffic is light and not chaotic, very quiete after 8 pm

WTTB,
Good to see the community expanding ! Members from BKK and other regions will bring a nice diversity to the board.

Yes she went mental over the dust... lol
All them Asians women go mental now and then....whatever the reason. Even you doing nothing, reading sitting in the sofa can trigger it....
And believe me, I have tried and tested nearly all S.E.A. variations of them....
One thing I have learned is not trying to calm them down, usually has the opposite effect....... When I am really in a good mood I have one of my typical diplomatic answers,...... that ensures silence for 24h !

Following, end October 2017
Yesterday evening we had dinner in a Balinese restaurant where they have the traditional dances .
Nice place, the dances were nice to look at (of course one time only...) the food and the local rose wine were OK !
The "horse" on its stand :
When the players came out of their disguise, I was pretty surprised by their young age :
The food, starter prawn cocktail, nothing special
Except for this little carved gem found inside
Chicken Cordon Bleu, very nice tasty
Crepes Suzette, a bit without taste....
2 random places on the way back to the hotel
Off for breakfast now,and buy some ice. Indeed we hit the road to the jungle house this morning, and I bring some sausages and other stuff with me, as those things are impossible to find in the jungle.
A bit of a trip as usual :
Google map a bit optimistic IMO, we never managed to do it in less than 7h ! Yeah, yeah, I know...7h for 200 km ? ?
