I'm on the case mate, far too many "cowboys" out there just taking customers dosh and providing a piss poor service, TIT where its all about the money.

She's been hunting around her friends all married to farangs to get recco's and the one we've decided on looks like the real deal even if its going to cost me 89K :default_crybaby:

Have wifey ask around her friends and co-workers. Ones that have had their kids go through braces (not the cosmetic, but the real deal). The good ones name should come out.

I would guess a practice (more than one) and usually they will also have an association with a oral surgeon. Insurance companies would also probably have good legit resources of reputable practices.

I have never had any serious dental work done over here. But the basic cleaning and check-ups  I've probably used four different ones. They were all top notch. But those were dentists.

Eeek! Now you're bringing back memories I thought I'd forgotten. Around 12 or 13 years ago there was a story about some young guy who'd just arrived in Pattaya and rented a big bike. Probably well-juiced, he'd lost control of it at high speed in the wee hours of the morning. He was on Second Road approaching Big C in North Pattaya and just before it the road kinks a bit. He'd evidently missed that and gone at high speed over the pavement and straight into a concrete pylon, head first. He'd been wearing a helmet, but he struck the post face-on, and wherever I saw it, presumably on some local news website, had an uncensored photo of the body. Basically, his head was still there, but where his face should have been was a rectangular dark void with lots of blood around it, like somebody had taken a giant ice cream scoop and removed his face and brains. Damn, and I thought I'd swept that one into the "do not disturb" area of my memory palace, ugh.

They always come back. Just have to develop mechanisms to sort through them. Don't try to fight them off, just let it flow through you and turn your thoughts to something else. Understand that they are part of your over all life experience - good and bad.

I just sorted through a memory of one that happened about twenty years ago. A double fatal/decapitation of two 19 year old college kids - tree v. Honda Civic.

The tree had a 8 inch chunk of bark missing from it. The Honda completely crushed, and so were the kids. Stench of beer, Yagermeister, and shit filled the air.

It'll always be with me. Not going to fight it. Just hope like hell I never have to see another one.

This place on Beach Road is also fairly new.

I remember tripping over the hoses walking by there when they were laying the tile when I lived on Soi 13. Never went in though.

When I lived on Koh Lanta there were three kids killed playing on a bike in the road fronting their house.

Pisses me off when parents let their kids ride.

I was an EMT for awhile in Idaho. Car wrecks were the hardest emotionally to deal with.

For me telling the parents was the most difficult thing I've ever had to do. Nothing comes close, even picking up remains or smelling shit/death. The depth of emotion is impossible to describe. I think losing my brother in a car wreck when I was seven also contributes to the intensity of those emotions.

Well i've finally succumbed to wifey's request for her to have dental braces fitted much to my reluctance. Obviously when she was young living in an Isaan village and then working in Bangers money was tight and orthodontics did'nt rate very highly in the "needs" department but now maybe just maybe it might be right for her to correct teeth alignment.

Has anyone got any first hand experience/knowledge they can pass on ? Thanks in anticipation.

I had just about everything possible done to my teeth when I was a kid. I wont go into detail. It was Dog awful and I hated, put my Mom through hell bitching about them.

Now.... I thank the dear lord Buddha I was fortunate enough to have had all of that. My parents put five kids through them made huge sacrifices to do so. Looking back I'm still amazed that they were able to do what they did on as little income as they earned. Something I admittedly took for granted. As I got older I began to appreciate what they did and love them dearly for it, although they have departed many years ago.

When my mother was in her 40's she when through years of awful headaches. They could not determine what was causing them. Over time they learned in was due to what is called TMJ. It has something to do with your bite and the size of your pallet. She had surgery where they split her upper pallet and then she wore braces to correct her bite. Headaches disappeared - it was like being reborn for her.

Braces do a lot more than straighten teeth and in some cases give a better appearance.  They can adjust problem bites and allow for better chewing and contribute huge to good health and longevity. Not to mention improved psychological self esteem.

I cannot think of a more loving gift that you could possibly offer to your lovely wife than braces and a supplemental health insurance policy. Blows gold out of the water any day. Not only that you will feel good about it. Pull your head out Cliff and get with it.  55555

*** make sure you get a very reputable orthodontist. Also there is a possibility she could need some minor ortho surgery depending on what treatment she ends up getting.  Therefore if you go with a health care supplement many of them have dental coverage. If you play your cards right - get a policy that offers the coverage. Then wait for the waiting period to pass, then have the dentist say she needs treatment for the teeth - maybe then some or much of it will be covered.

I beg to differ my friend, i have never seen so many braindead idiots in charge of killing machines that i witness daily on my travels here in Thailand. The UK certainly has driving standards that are in the main adhered to, thats why our death rate is circa 1000 per year whereas Thailand is circa 25K and thats only the deaths that are recorded at the scene, subsequent deaths in hospital are'nt included in the figures.

Its deffo safer to ride a m/c in the UK than Thailand imo.

Honestly... One of my greatest fears is to be walking down the road one day.... And seeing a bike with a couple kids on it get creamed. I've seen enough already after 30 years of handling accidents, but 95% of them were after the impact (still bad, but not the same).

If I saw one up and personal now I think it would send me over the edge.

I had a meeting at Mots office in Soi Khoutalo ( next to the Gold shop just past the railway line) who took down the basic details.

It was Terry Lee who suggested using them as his licenses ( yes, 11 years by mistake) were due to run out a couple of weeks before mine and he discovered that because of Covid they were weeks behind and it had become essential to have an appointment which Mots organised. We both seem to have the same aversion to visiting Immigration etc.

Mots got me an appointment for the 5th October and in the interim completed all the paperwork and visited Immigration to obtain my resident certificate which entailed them completing a TM30 on my behalf.

On the 5th October they took me to the center and as I had an 08:00 am appointment, along with about 20 others, we jumped ahead of a huge queue of Thai's. It takes about 3 hours to complete the formalities of:

    1. Watch the video

    2. Perception test etc. ( new guy doing these and he seemed to rush through. I did not realise I had even completed one of the tests before he shouted "Next."  😀

    3. Queue to pay ( Mrs Mot reimburses)

    4. Queue to have photo taken

    5. Wait to collect new licenses.

Mrs Mot waited downstairs then returned me to her office where I had parked my own car.

I could have done all this myself but it is absolute barely controlled chaos in the license center and without a Thai speaker ( who knows what is going on and where to go next) I would have been lost. They took away all the administration hassle and that was good enough justification for me. 😀

A service up here is asking for 3500 for this and I think 4500 for a MC license (which requires 2 days, different tests).

Can I ask what they are asking in the place you went in Patts ?

The service here charges 500 for 90 day reporting (same as what they charge in Patts) and 1,500 for the residency requirement which I think is reasonable. I was a little bit taken back by the 4,500 for the MC D.L.     I might try to tackle this myself, but if it gets too stressful I'll just walk and eat the 4,500.

  8. From what I have been led to believe (on many occasions) that it is the hotels (or landlords) responsibility to notify immigration when you are residing in their residence.  That is why they take a copy of your passport when you check in or sign a lease.

Good, bad, or indifferent - I'm interested to hear what some of the other BM's experience is with this.

More times than not I just assume it is being done. Often I will even ask them if they are in fact going to do so. I want to be on good standing if any question was to arise about my resident status, especially in these times.

As the months roll by with various changes in locations I am discovering that on more than one occasion (and actually now looking back probably several) that the hotel or landlord never reported it (or perhaps they reported it but was never recorded by immigration).

So.... I ask.   Are they really doing it ? Are they just being lazy ? Should I always follow-up to make sure it is being done ? Are there any negative consequences immigration could hold against me with by their failure to do so ? I mean WTF ???

    Any thoughts or experiences ???

Thats why i won't be purchasing ANY health insurance, with type 2 diabetes just about any complaint i'm likely to suffer can be attributed to it and therefore no cover. In wifey's case she's young, as fit as a fiddle, works out everyday, non smoker, rarely drinks, eats a healthy diet no junk food, hang on a minute do i really need to be getting insurance for her lol

Yep.... the more I'm looking at this the less appealing it seem. I may go the low ball approach just to have something, + they throw in "accident" insurance. I have a hatred for insurance companies. Almost as strong as my disgust for banks (don't get me going on that one.... lol)

I would think for a Thai National (especially younger and healthy) that you could find a good, affordable supplement policy that works in conjunction with the National plan that I would hope she has. It would insure that she has options and would get a better level of care and quality of room. If I was married I'd be on that like flies on Mike Pence's hair.

  10. I'm looking at Pacific Cross now. Going back and forth on the costs and coverage. They laid on the pre-exisiting exclusions pretty heavy and I'm not very pleased with it. I might go with a lesser comprehensive plan or a higher deductible.

The plans they are coming out with now should all be good for post covid laws and they will register you themselves with all the authorities, provide covid coverage, vison and dental all in one package - supposedly.

I just have the fear of having a heart attack and getting to the hospital and them telling me I ain't covered.... pisses me off.

Why pay for higher coverage on a gold plated policy when chance are they are going to come back on you and say they won't be able to cover it. I asked if they can provide supplements to cover the pre-existing stuff but they say no-way Jose.

  11. I'm going for my first Thai D.L. this week (or the next depending on what I encounter) up in Chiang Mai. I've opted to check with a company that greases (er, provides guidance) things. I'll see how that goes. Always a new learning curve around the next corner. It'll be good to have that in my pocket. One more thing to check off "the list".
