I've got a nice garden just 6 minutes from Walking Street. It was professionally designed by the same people who did the garden at the Sketch Book Art Cafe in Jomtien. I just move the odd plant six inches every now and then, I've got gardeners who come and do the actual work. I love having the green space to look out on, and in the tropics it's all year-round, no depressing winter grey.

Very nice. Looks like a Hobbit paradise.

I used to maintain a very nice garden and lawn in the UK but i just find it too damn hot here in Thailand, i leave it to wifey and she's doing a great job taking care on a daily basis, i do get a team in once a month to do the donkey work.

Damn nice set up Pump. I'd be proud of that and happy to look at it every day. Well done.

trees and flowers no prblem, but i fail at all western veg.  not sure, I think direct sun.. but even tomatoes that an idiot can grow in the UK.. grow well, then bolt and wilt.  bit like me

Try to find some of the disease resistant plants. May be more difficult to find over there though. Tomatoes can be trickier than people think. Sometimes too much water can get them. If dry you can at least water them yourself.

  4. Used to do it, but never seemed to have the time to keep things up proper. Became a chore rather than enjoyment.

Now I have the time, and interest.... but live in a place that doesn't have a yard.

  5. Google maps is a tremendous asset IMO. For a number of things.

Being near good transportation (stations, etc.) is always key. Helps to learn the neighborhoods before you get there and see if they support what you enjoy/need. Sometimes I'll even do a "street view" and stroll around the hood (if it is new one) to get a feel for it.

I don't give much weight to reviews. Although they can be good for providing red flags.

Chicken and dumplings at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Gettysburg, PA.  Sweet corn and cornbread dressing were my sides.

It's a cosy restaurant for a meal on a cold, wet day.

Those dumplings look awesome. Grandma used to make them from scratch. Haven't had any for a long time.

  7. Yes, I enjoy it. Always learning, yet I'm tending to go more with things that have worked in the past. I enjoy connections I make with the people and neighborhoods I have become comfortable with. A lot of research goes into that along with trial and error. When I do find those places that click for me I tend to stick with it. In doing so it eases my work load when making the next trip plans down the road.

Forums like this one have been brilliant in assisting with trip planning. And can be great fun when using. Always appreciate the different input and perspectives other BM's provide. And thankful that they take the time to do so.

Just got a call from one of those annoyingly friendly marketeers who wants to talk to you and not let you respond.

After 3 times asking the question of who she was I eventually got the message that she was from Verso and that she was from the leading generation group. Despite asking again 3 times what her lead generation group was selling she could not tell me until the word marketing cropped up, conversation abruptly ended.

I try to be civil as I don't know whether or not any calls from immigration might be forthcoming (still awaiting Porn's visa confirmation) but these marketeers never come out with who they really are and they talk so bloody fast that they hope you just continue to listen to their drivel.

You are very nice. I have no - zero time for these people who intrude on me. Zero respect. Door knockers even worse.

    Looks good Gal.

Why don't you pick up one of those little broccoli crowns one day. Cut it up throw some cheese sauce (easy as melting a slice of American cheese on top of it) on it. Fabulous

The crowns are easy and perfect for one meal. Cut it up put in a bowl. Add a slight bit of water then micro (place a paper towel over it) for a minute or so. Then throw a  piece of American cheese or Velveta on it. Heat for a few more seconds and there you go.

We could do with a good few more closing down.

One of the ongoing problems is that there are just far too many Bars and GoGo's all chasing the same diminished western customer base. It has been like that in Pattaya for years.

That is nothing to fear for those that provide the service that customers want, at a price they see as value for money, in friendly and comfortable premises with attractive eye candy in the background.

Most customers like to see attractive girls in the premises even when they have no intention of actually renting them. It has always been like that and always will be as long as guys are attracted to pussy.....................................and beers!

Agree. But if people begin to feel like they're getting soaked or under appreciated they'll leave. The high BF's are a real turn off. Not going to fly anymore for bars who like to keep regular customers, maybe for a 2 week mill., but not for a bar who wants to attract long time regulars. Especially those places that charge an early and late BF. f**k that !

Who's going to pay that when they have a phone full of numbers ?

But... you really cant replace a good bar with girls that you can have a good look at and interview.

  11. I've earned several free flights on my CC points over the years. Have 2 or 3 trips worth of points on the books now. Cash doesn't give me that, although when in LOS I use cash for daily type exchanges. Pain in the ass though dealing with that change at the 7/11 and  you have your hands full with someone breathing down your neck.

  12. Interesting obit piece here on a Wrigleyville (Chicago Cubs neighborhood) bartender, Floyd Saunders. I used to live a few blocks from Wrigley Field. Wrigley was the center of the world for many, including me. A paradise of green and Cubbie blue, unlike no place on Earth. Also attended many great shows at Metro (across the street from Wrigley). Great old school medium sized joint where you could really cut loose. Saw the Ramones there among many others. Great memories.
