I'm NOT, hate the f****** things but wifey is and won't leave the house without one. Now i was under the impression that masks don't prevent you from catching Covid, am i right or wrong ? Now what with the air pollution in Thailand perhaps the Thais are right to wear one and we should all comply.

What do you think guys ? Perhaps i should just do a poll.

Same here, I will never wear one of those wretched things again unless somebody forces me to - just about drove me nuts during Covid here in a cold winter climate with my glasses fogging up all the time because of the mask...

  2. I haven't worn a wrist watch for so many years that I don't feel comfortable with them on my arm now - then again I wear no other jewelry or accessory items either, got out of the habit from working around too much electricity and machinery in my youth; if I want to know the time I just look at my phone or wall clocks here and there.

  3. It took me about 26 hours to go from my home  to my BKK hotel in January through Vancouver and Taipei; it has taken me up to 32 hours in days gone by depending on layovers. Thankfully i can drive to our local airport in ten minutes or less so this is not a factor, unlike some of my UK friends who burn up hours just getting to LHR or other departure airports.

My longest single flight was Vancouver to Manila at 14 hours.

  5. My house sitter picked me up at the airport the other day and on the way home he mentioned that he'd had a bad day - apparently he was out walking his dog (some kind of medium-sized terrier) on the trails in the bush nearby my home and had let the dog off his leash as many do when they get off the street - the dog ran a little ways off to check something out and was jumped by a coyote, resulting in injuries severe enough that the dog didn't survive even after being taken to the vet.

I think we all share an element of "cheapness" about us. For me its not about the money, but more about the perceived value I'm getting.

2 for one Chang cheaper than Tiger, I'll go with the Chang. I'll buy cheap T shirts and underpants from LOS because I know they'll last and are fine for work. However, on the flipside I'll use good oil and genuine products in my cars, premium fuel and if I'm out buying food for shopping, decent meat from the local butcher rather than pre packed from Tesco (although chicken wings are better from Tesco).

I also learned a lesson when first with my Mrs, she sent me out to buy a sack of rice, giving me very specific instructions, but I thought I knew better by getting a sack of "broken rice" instead and save a few quid. I was lectured on the fact we only buy broken rice when we have no other choice, otherwise we pay for the best rice we can afford.

Some guys and women are very careful with their money in some ways, and as @Aqualung pointed out, when it comes to big sums and using money to work for themselves in such a way, they have trouble understanding it.

Maybe the old saying "look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves " applies.

My English mother was quite the tightwad in her day - not unusual for that generation that endured first depression and then war - and I remember once when I was teasing her about it she said to me "my grandmother told me that a farthing saved becomes a penny, and a penny saved becomes a pound" - I guess banks were still paying decent interest in those days, lol...

  7. Just enjoying my last full day in BKK before I catch the plane home; picked up some last minute laundry, did my advance Customs declaration online, now I will do a "dummy pack" and weigh my bag hoping like hell it'll be within limits. I went for brunch on Sukhomvit near Soi 8 around 12:00PM, was surprised to see rain starting to fall as I exited - just made it back to Nana before the heavens really opened, got a little wet but I would have been a drowned rat if I had been a minute or too later...

  8. Actually I have to give the crews on 2nd Rd credit, they are doing an unpleasant job and doing it quickly - this is all about tying in the side roads to the new utility conduits that they have previously installed on 2nd Rd itself, and they seem to get it over and done with fairly quickly at each individual spot; think about all the complaints we've had over the years about the tangle of overhead wires and why don't they fix them, well, now they are working diligently towards doing just that.

As a guy that dislikes Phillips head screws, I found this video interesting, and mildly entertaining. It's a shame the Robertson head didn't become the standard in the US.

Yes, I don't much like Phillips head screws myself although I do see the advantages they have for manufacturing and drywall installation; give me a Robertson anytime...

  10. I've been following our weather at home and it's been a spectacular couple of weeks - sunny days with highs up to 15C  and just below freezing at night, very warm for April at that latitude - watch it turn to crap when I land there in a couple of weeks....
