I haven't worn a wrist watch for so many years that I don't feel comfortable with them on my arm now - then again I wear no other jewelry or accessory items either, got out of the habit from working around too much electricity and machinery in my youth; if I want to know the time I just look at my phone or wall clocks here and there.

I've got to admit that I just love a head of long, thick hair falling down a Thai girl's back, but I can also enjoy a bob-type cut if it goes with a long fringe and the facial structure is right for it...

It took me about 26 hours to go from my home to my BKK hotel in January through Vancouver and Taipei; it has taken me up to 32 hours in days gone by depending on layovers. Thankfully i can drive to our local airport in ten minutes or less so this is not a factor, unlike some of my UK friends who burn up hours just getting to LHR or other departure airports.
My longest single flight was Vancouver to Manila at 14 hours.

Thought I'd read all of the earlier "Inspector Lynley" books but found this one in a Vancouver bookshop:

My house sitter picked me up at the airport the other day and on the way home he mentioned that he'd had a bad day - apparently he was out walking his dog (some kind of medium-sized terrier) on the trails in the bush nearby my home and had let the dog off his leash as many do when they get off the street - the dog ran a little ways off to check something out and was jumped by a coyote, resulting in injuries severe enough that the dog didn't survive even after being taken to the vet.

I left Thailand yesterday, the desk at the Dynasty Grande offered me a ride for 500b including tolls which is what I generally pay the taxi cabs waiting out in the street and it was one of the quickest rides I have ever made to the airport and in a nice car too; I was a little early so check-in was a snap and also security and Immigration were virtually deserted - we left the hotel at 12:05 and I was into the secure area of the airport by 12:55.
My flight was delayed by half an hour because of late arrival of the plane, this is flight BR68 which I believe originates in LHR; then when we reached Taipei we were told we had to maintain a holding pattern for twenty minutes because of "heavy traffic" - I was starting to get a little concerned about making my next flight but when I reached the cursory transit security check (I call it cursory because you don't have to worry about belts, shoes or laptops - just empty your pockets and throw your bag on the belt) there was nobody there at all and I breezed right through. The next flight to Vancouver left on time and I was able to move to a better seat because a fellow wanted my seat so he could sit next to his wife - at first I said no because he had an inside middle row seat and I had my usual aisle seat but I looked around after they had closed the plane's doors and saw another aisle seat empty in a much better spot for me and cleared the move with the flight attendant so this made everybody happy - it was a busy flight and I saw only one empty seat in our PE cabin.

I think we all share an element of "cheapness" about us. For me its not about the money, but more about the perceived value I'm getting.
2 for one Chang cheaper than Tiger, I'll go with the Chang. I'll buy cheap T shirts and underpants from LOS because I know they'll last and are fine for work. However, on the flipside I'll use good oil and genuine products in my cars, premium fuel and if I'm out buying food for shopping, decent meat from the local butcher rather than pre packed from Tesco (although chicken wings are better from Tesco).
I also learned a lesson when first with my Mrs, she sent me out to buy a sack of rice, giving me very specific instructions, but I thought I knew better by getting a sack of "broken rice" instead and save a few quid. I was lectured on the fact we only buy broken rice when we have no other choice, otherwise we pay for the best rice we can afford.
Some guys and women are very careful with their money in some ways, and as @Aqualung pointed out, when it comes to big sums and using money to work for themselves in such a way, they have trouble understanding it.
Maybe the old saying "look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves " applies.
My English mother was quite the tightwad in her day - not unusual for that generation that endured first depression and then war - and I remember once when I was teasing her about it she said to me "my grandmother told me that a farthing saved becomes a penny, and a penny saved becomes a pound" - I guess banks were still paying decent interest in those days, lol...

Not even summer yet and the forest fires have started already in Canada:
This fire also affects my part of Canada as this is not only the main transportation route north, but the fibre optic cable that we depend on for communications also runs through this corridor and is presently out of service.

Yes, just got an email from my house sitter yesterday stating that the snow is completely gone from the yard now, even where the piles were; and also the weather forecast for Vancouver is clear and sunny which is great as I will be spending two nights there.

Just enjoying my last full day in BKK before I catch the plane home; picked up some last minute laundry, did my advance Customs declaration online, now I will do a "dummy pack" and weigh my bag hoping like hell it'll be within limits. I went for brunch on Sukhomvit near Soi 8 around 12:00PM, was surprised to see rain starting to fall as I exited - just made it back to Nana before the heavens really opened, got a little wet but I would have been a drowned rat if I had been a minute or too later...

Actually I have to give the crews on 2nd Rd credit, they are doing an unpleasant job and doing it quickly - this is all about tying in the side roads to the new utility conduits that they have previously installed on 2nd Rd itself, and they seem to get it over and done with fairly quickly at each individual spot; think about all the complaints we've had over the years about the tangle of overhead wires and why don't they fix them, well, now they are working diligently towards doing just that.

As a guy that dislikes Phillips head screws, I found this video interesting, and mildly entertaining. It's a shame the Robertson head didn't become the standard in the US.
Yes, I don't much like Phillips head screws myself although I do see the advantages they have for manufacturing and drywall installation; give me a Robertson anytime...

I've been following our weather at home and it's been a spectacular couple of weeks - sunny days with highs up to 15C and just below freezing at night, very warm for April at that latitude - watch it turn to crap when I land there in a couple of weeks....

So who is still wearing a mask when out and about ?

Same here, I will never wear one of those wretched things again unless somebody forces me to - just about drove me nuts during Covid here in a cold winter climate with my glasses fogging up all the time because of the mask...
