Stan Stephens used to tune LC's and Powervalves as well iirc.

They were horrifically fast, but like many 350 LC's, not unlike a hand grenade with a very loose pin. One of the tips I was always given when looking at a second hand LC was to check for lockwire around the sump plug.

Suzuki absolutely broke the mould with the RG's. The 500's sounded and looked awesome, being a Yamaha fan I always liked the RD500 YPVS , but again, nowadays they're fetching huge sums of money for a half decent one. Plus the Mrs won't let me have another bike anyway, least of all something as ridiculously impractical and fast like an 80's 500cc 2 stroke.

However @galenkia in case you were interested...

    Yeh, Stan was the man.

I had a 350 LC too, great bike except for the speed wobble about 100mph

Get a divorce and buy it!

  2. I regularly look at the pricing in the UK for 348/355/360's and i would agree with you, silly prices indeed. I paid 38500GBP's back in 2001 and probaly should have kept hold of it but it was a second car that spent a lot of its time in my garage doing nothing just looking beautiful (not a very practical car for everyday driving in lots of respects). I'd satisfied my boyhood dream of owning a red Ferrari so it was time after a couple of years to say goodbye.
Does your friend let you have a drive of his lovelies ?
Good for you, you need to go for your dreams when you get the chance. I have driven his Bentley but not the Countach... Yet [emoji3]. He has a performante too, I need to drive that one!

  3. I remember discussing this car with you in Pattaya, and gated shifter or not I am still green with envy - I am a lifelong Ferrari fan but the only time I have ever been in or driven one was in Las Vegas on a race track where I rented an F430 for a few laps - I would kill for a ride or drive in a classic model from the '60s but with the "collectors" (better term "speculators") driving their values sky-high that wish gets more remote as time goes by - one of the prices I've paid for living in a remote area during my lifetime.
Yeh, prices are getting silly now. I was at a Supercar event yesterday, they had 5 F50s there amongst many others. Friend of mine has a nice collection of lambos including a countach

  4. Well i had the 348TB and i have to say it was like driving a super fast tractor what with the gated gear shift but it was a "looker" imo
348s are quite sought after now and better value than 355s....both so pretty cars

  5. Love em, now resale prices of the R8 are getting sensible which opens them up for more not so wealthy buyers. Did'nt we have a boardie on Schh "Piemelty" or something like that who had one and posted pics of it, it was a beauty.
Audi's are great quality cars imo, i loved my TT.
    I started with a V8 coupe manual. Now have a V10 spyder s tronic, couldn't find a manual cb79159fd173124bed64a2aaf38c2fd3.jpg76f11a40b5f0e9542651a916514b4a06.jpg

  6. I love a straight six in anything, and BMW's versions are about as good as they come. Although I'd love to take your F80 for a good boot, I don't think I'd want to buy a BMW newer than my 2003 330xi  E46 because they are just too full of electronic gimmickry and I am thousands of miles away from the nearest dealer and need to do most of my own maintenance and repairs (thankfully few of these so far!).

  7. Good choice, the V8's of the E92 were known to be troublesome. I always liked the sound of the E46 and the straight 6 has a nice rasp to it. Bloke nearby has a real garage queen, a 2002 Turbo which only comes out for shows and sunny days, another BMW I'd like to own :)
Yeh, I prefer E46 to the E92. The turbo is very rare and an appreciating asset. Just had the F80 remapped, its an absolute weapon now [emoji3]

Great car, rare saloon. I had the E36 M3 GT2, owned it 5 years, 60k miles, loved every minute. I have a F80 M3 comp now, amazing machine...

  9. I never pay for biz class, can't justify the extra cost, would rather spend the money on a good hotel.

Night flights and xanax help with economy.

However I generate a lot of points with credit card spend and sign up bonuses, plus the BA companion voucher, so get to fly biz class regularly... It makes such a difference, holiday starts at check in.

  10. Well we got a "Bike Porn" thread which i have to say is brill imo so why not have a car one as well. This British made TVR Tuscan was/is imo an absolute beauty, it was launched in 2000 with a list price of circa 40K GBP and to acquire an excellent condition one today will set you back in excess of 30K GBP. In its day it was a real head turner and the exhaust sound was far better than any stereo sound system you might want to hear, most owners chose the exhaust lol
I don't quite know why i did'nt get one when i retired and had all the time to play around/enjoy one, it was capable of 180mph if ya had the balls to do it. Like all TVR's it had a bad rep for reliability but to the fervent owners that was a price worth paying to own and drive such a beauty at a relatively affordable price. If i was living in the UK now i would get one as a last throw of the dice.

I drove one soon after they were released. Awesome car, very light so was rapid.... No safety aids though....

  12. Cosworth's were a great investment for the canny minded.
My 3 year old Suzukl RG500 cost me £3500 in 1989,mint ones go for over £20k now. I sold mine for £500 with a blown engine and crash damage 5 years later [emoji1]
I had a RG500 in 89 too, wrote it off and went to Thailand for the first time with the insurance pay off [emoji3]. Just bought a RGV250 to recapture some 2 stroke magic...
