LOL ... All governments training the "monkeys" ... there will be a couple more new strains of Covid -- up to and including covid-39 ...  not until they have the "monkeys" all most trained will all of this bullshit ( lockdowns . etc."s  ) be semi rolled-back ... so, I don't personally see anything changing until the middle of 2022 ...

There will be a litany of problems rolling out the vaccines ... back orders .. temporarily out of stock .. etc.'s ... plus, the vaccine itself causing "reactions" that will also create more doubt about it effectiveness .. this is far from over

Lets face it .. this is a perfect "storm" to roll back the freedoms of everyday people .. make them more dependent on the governments .. more megalomania from the government officials ... more people losing their homes and jobs .. this is just the beginning based upon what the officials have gotten away with so far .....

All over the western world, and with 90% of the populations applauding for having their freedom taken away....

And of course anybody who does not want to follow the main masses is an idiot, he is a selfish bastard, and is the cause / reason why covid has not been solved yet....

    Alleluhia...

Hopefully the people will wake up and throw a mayhem or revolution...

Because mask, lockdown and social distancing has been tried since 9 months now and it simply doesn't work.

When something doesn't work you change the approach.

    But hey, I don't give a hoot !

More likely however (IMO)is they wait until Thais themselves start getting vaccinated en masse, so closer to the end of this year or beginning of next.

I suppose you mean "this year" is 2021 ?

Yes, looks interesting. I will read it in details later at the pool !

Without going off topic, this confirms what I said in the political thread, i.e. that USA's biggest issue is the racial problem. It impact everything from health, chances of prosperity, safety, etc...

    But that's another subject.

Just F.Y.I., this kind of sensus, study, data collection or even poll is not allowed in France. It is against the law to do any of these based on race or ethnicity. It is allowed, within certain limits, based on religion I think.

It's may seem hypocritical, but equality amongst all French is one of the pillars of our society. Written on the front of every city hall : Freedom, Equality, Fraternity. This was one of the motos of.the French Revolution.

Hence you will never hear speaking about "Arab French", "African French" or "Asian French".

    There is only FRENCH.

Now, it may deprive us from doing some interesting social studies like the ones you linked, but that's the way it is, and personally I agree with it.

Mods : no T.F. intended, just clarifying a point further to an (interesting) link provided by @lazarus.

  4. Dinner at the French cantine yesterday.

    IMG-20201222-WA0001_copy_600x1067.jpg

The foie gras, homemade by the owner, was absolutely superb ! And perfect matching "pain de campagne" was served with it. Not cheap (120k IDR / 250B) but worth every rupee of it.

The Miss loved it as well.

    IMG-20201222-WA0000_copy_600x1067.jpg

Lamb shank with semolina as main dish. Very nice as usual.

    20201226_190327_copy_600x450.jpg

The Miss had her usual steack.

All in a friendly French atmosphere of hand shaking and chatting.

    Normal life...

If the scientists determine that the vaccine doesn't stop a recipient being infectious, it merely prevents him/her suffering the symptoms of Covid, then I very much doubt the quarantine requirement will be dropped.

Spot on. Was just going to answer that.

The general consensus from what I have read (not much, as government are very reluctant to communicate on this ..) is that the vaccine doesn't prevend the virus to hit you, bjt it prevents you falling sick.

Meaning you can carry the virus, have no symptons, y ou dont become sick, but you can transmit it to others....

So, in that case till at least 70% of the population have been vaccinated (and can not become sick) you haven't stopped the disease.

    Good luck with that.

Anyway, we should know more in 6 months !

  6. Many other factors intervene.

Look at the numbers here under, origin is an U.N. study dated 2019.

World Mortality 2019: Data Booklet (un.org)

Scroll down to page 13 and followings

The crude death rate between UK, France and US are rather close.

But look at the columns at the right (Percentage of death by age).

The date rate in the Age 15 to 65 in the US is shockingly higher than the UK and France rate. And I don't think guns are the only cause. Maybe a general health issue like obesity, or problem like drugs and "stimulators" abuse ?

The infant mortality an in the US is double that of France and 50% higher than that of UK

The "under five mortality"  in the US is 75% higher than UK or France (7/1000 vs 4/1000)

For those could the health care system be the reason ?

    This study  is very interesting.

An American is dying of Covid related causes every 30 seconds.

That is 7123 each day, 297 each hour, and 5 each minute.

Which is one every 12 seconds.......

Numbers need to be put in perspective. Always.

U.S. deaths increase most years, so some annual rise in fatalities is expected. But the 2020 numbers amount to a jump of about 15%, and could go higher once all the deaths from this month are counted.

Which rather matches the numbers of excess deaths in France

                                                                   2020           2019          2018

    Deces data 201207.jpg

    2020 vs 2019 : + 25.898 (+ 16%)

    2020 vs 2018 : +29.186 (+ 18,5%)

Of course the population of France being much less than the US, the number in volume is less shocking. But you have to compare %.

For the one without mask, shouting about he bought a drink, well done, bloody good joke !

Hell, if you can't even have a bit of a laugh about stupidity of the world...

Chips are not very popular here.

In fact last week we ordered some KFC, and I was surprised to see that every item was offered only with rice, chips or french fries being not even mentionned.....

  10. Well, well, things getting better and better....

    https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/health-environment/article/3115208/hong-kong-fourth-wave-impromptu-covid-19

"All overseas arrivals into Hong Kong will have to quarantine in designated hotels for 21 days, starting from Friday – up from the current 14 days – as city authorities further tightened control measures in their bid to contain the fourth wave of coronavirus infections.

The only travellers exempted are those coming in from China, Macau and Taiwan, who will continue having to serve home quarantine for 14 days.

With a new variant of the virus reported to have surfaced in South Africa, Hong Kong authorities are also banning those who have stayed in that country for more than two hours within 21 days of boarding flights to the city."

Love the second paragraphe....  speaking about discrimination ...

Anyway how can you practise social distancing in places like HKG or Tokyo ?

Just thinking that a Topic I created yesterday that was about the Brexit deal being imminent has disappeared so I can only assume it has been deleted or put into the Politics Club.

If that is the will of the authorities then so be it but I will not enter the politics club so it is sad that I can't see a thread that I actually created.

As it was meant to be a factual update on the state of play in Brexit and should have continued to offer updates I find it sad that it could become a home for political comment. Personally if it has then I would rather it was just deleted.

Of course it could be my age and it is still lurking around somewhere.

There is already a Brexit thread in the Political Club.

And it's rather well civilized !

So don't be scared, and hop in.

Note : stay away from the MULTIPLE US politics thread which are mainly garbage....

Thailand Omits Reporting New Virus Cases Among Migrant Workers

Thailand reported 46 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, down 89% from Tuesday’s tally, as it omitted new infections among migrant workers who comprised the majority of cases in an outbreak reported earlier this week.

“We’re not going to report the number of cases found during proactive search operations among the migrant workers,” Taweesilp Witsanuyotin, Covid-19 center spokesman, said on Wednesday, while not disclosing a reason for the omission. “It stands at zero for now, as we have many reasons we must discuss further.”

What a bunch of clowns ....

And still some people will believe and defend them.

Thailand is doing a great job of not testing and not counting....

So you think no-one has died OF Covid?

    Old people die. It's nature.

Old people are more fragile than young people, take broken bones for example. If a old, fragile person catches anything he is in trouble. It's nature.

If live till 82 in decent shape, I'll consider myself lucky.

No point trying to extend life by a few years laying on a hospital bed, without memory and without realizing what's happening around you.
