Just had two very, very close lightning strikes. Credit to the electric infrastructure, not so much as a blip from my UPS.

I have no problem crossing 2nd Rd and Beach Rd, but 3rd Rd with the fast moving, two way traffic scares me.
Fortunately for DK Beer Town there's a pedestrian crossing light at that intersection, but if my memory hasn't failed me, I believe it's currently not working.

65 or 66 spots based on that picture they've got to be mad and I'll tell you I want everybody to succeed here I want the town to flourish but that location with little to no parking 65 or 66 bars you got to be shitting me. Even the new made in Thailand complex many bars are not doing well. We'll see what happens I'm guessing some deposits have already been made if the working is continuing.
Since they haven't even cleared the back area, I wonder if there are phases to the project. Phase 1, develop the front area first and if they find enough suckers to lease those bars, then develop the back area in sections.

I was awake early as usual this morning after a good night's kip.... or so I thought...apparently I was driving in my sleep according to M'lady.. Her impression of me dream-driving was quite funny given that she can't drive !!!!!!!!
I hit Fascino at 8am but their prices were more expensive than a little shop near Det Udom market. I then went to the Post Office but they don't do forwarding of mail so I'll keep my PO Box open till the New Year and slowly do a COA to everybody that uses it. I then went to my old pharmacy opposite Natural Hotel but it has been refurbished under new owners and is no longer the cheapest pharmacy in town. No problem cos I was only there to compare prices to Det Udom.
We then went to the market to buy a load of vests. All 100 Baht each but was too tired to try knocking them down to 80 baht, besides I don't mind helping them out rather than bartering over pennies..
Back to the hotel heavily laden with food, vests and caps for a short snoooooze before heading up to Siamburis to load up with non perishables...
My daughter is heading down from Bangkok so all my freetime will now be spent with her and M'Lady...
If you want, and if the P.O. allows it, I can swing by on occasion and grab any mail for you. I'll send you a PM with pictures of the unopened mail and you can decide if there's anything important enough to forward on to you. If urgent, I could, with your permission, open and email a scan of the contents to you as well.

You dodged a bullet there mate.
I ended up driving for 10 hours directly to Pattaya through three torrential thunderstorms and arrived last night tired and hungry.
So we ordered Pizza Company delivery to the room...It was utter shite!!...Never again !!
On the plus side, you're back in Pattaya. Welcome back.

Posted on another forum was a link to a FB page with the floor plan for the new DK Beer Town complex. While I noticed the empty land behind where they're currently working, I hadn't realized they were going to plant beer bars there too.
According to the plan, like Myth they have very little space set aside for parking. If it were me, I would have opted for one or more less rows of bars at the back and used the space for parking. If, after the complex opened, business exceeded expectations, then I would have added more bars. The other thing in the plus column for such a plan, with fewer bars it takes less customers to make the place look busy.
Some pics of the area earmarked for rows B thru E, starting with the entrance to the complex off of Soi 14.

Met up with BM's from another forum last night. One had a brown paper bag on the table in front of him. I tapped the bag and asked him which sex toy did he buy this time? He then pulls out the weirdest sex toy I've even seen, but perhaps one @boydeste is familiar with.
Never knew until last night there was such a thing as a pool training ball.

I heard them working this morning and seeing no gate on the 3rd Rd side I says to myself, there must be another entrance they're using. And lo and behold, just down Soi 14 I spied the entrance to the backside of the complex.

Update on Nicky's new place.
I talked to Debbie yesterday about the floor plan for the new location. She said the new place will have about half the indoor floor space, but there will be an outdoor bar area.
For those that are customers, you've probably noticed the quirky door that often times gets left slightly opened. I asked Debbie if the new place will have the same door and the answer was no, the new place will have an auto door closer. We had a chuckle over that as a customer had just walked in as I was asking the question and had left the door slightly ajar.
The hoped for opening date is the first week in July.
Not much progress since the last photo update a month ago.

It would be great if it were a much larger chunk of road, equivalent to his body weight, that was left glued to his hand. Pull the battery from his phone. Then take him to the outskirts of town, drop him off on a seldom used stretch of road and tell him he's free to go.

The Mrs was granted a US B1 Tourist Visa this Morning. She put in a solid effort preparing for the interview.
There must have been 100 applicants at the US Embassy this Morning, many of whom left unhappy. I think that the Mrs was successful for two primary reasons.
- She has previously traveled to the West (Norway).
- She owns in her own name a fairly significant amount of land, property, etc.
Being married to a US citizen who holds a long term Thai retirement visa probably did not hurt as well.
Great news. Glad it worked out for you and your Mrs.

Another great way to keep track of weather in Pattaya is the Longdo Traffic app (I've got it on Android, not sure about iOS)
You can see traffic cameras all over Pattaya (and elsewhere). It overlays the radar on the map.
While it was dry at my place in central Pattaya I could see heavy rain on Sukumvit
and at Terminal 21 light rain
Just installed the app. Very cool! Only disappointment is they don't have any cameras covering the flood prone areas.

Quite pleased with my expanded rain collection system. That one rainstorm and a single roofline gutter managed to fill 2500L in less than an hour.
In the pic below, the 1000L tank is at the far back, the 1500L tank in the foreground.
I expect the approx 10k baht I spent on the system to save me about 30B/month. It wasn't really about the savings, but a project to keep me busy.

Well that changed quickly. Another line of thunderstorms has developed and moved in from the east. The thunder gods just announced their arrival with a nice crack of lightning and thunder overhead. No rain yet.

Insane methinks!
The bars facing each other at the top of Soi 7 are noted for the volume of their music blasting out into the soi. It's so bad I speed up to get past the bars as quick as possible.
For the Las Vegas Beer Garden, if you sit near the entrance the volume when the live band kicks in isn't too bad. What helps with the building's acoustics is the insulation they've attached to the interior walls and ceilings. Prior to 9pm when the live band starts playing, the music volume is tolerable no matter where you sit.

Don't know why they didn't just leave the pool right away and leave it to moma elephant to get her baby out. Most know, or should know, never get close to young wildlife when their mom is about.

With all the lightning about, you can test your Thai loved one's mettle by calling her on her mobile and seeing if she'll answer.
My lady just walked in to bring me lunch. I picked up my phone as if I were going to call someone and she immediately freaked out.
