I was on another Concorde, one of 4 flying in formation on 24 December 1985. It was in preparation for the 10 year anniversary of Concorde operations in January 1986.

I got onboard via coming second in a fancy dress competition. First prize was a weekend stay in any Holiday Inn. I was an Irish Kamikaze pilot.

About 20 on each aircraft, being served mince pies and champagne. Quite a few were sick as Concorde was built to fly supersonic and not try to keep formation sub sonically.

Flew down over Lands End (western England) and over Irish sea.

Was a great experience. I took a photo as I walked out of work to board on the aircraft apron behind the Technical Block where I worked.

Thank you. Explains what was puzzling me about your first photo. I was trying to work out how you managed to get a shot of the wing surface of your plane, with no wing tip visible.

With the Concorde's swept back wings extending to almost the tail of the plane, most windows would have a view of the wing.

We get quite a few rumbles.. followed by wind... but never any rain..

What site is that from, I've forgotten ...????

Here's another radar loop that covers more of southern Thailand. Doesn't get to the far reaches of Ubon though.

This one just barely shows Ubon in the bottom right side. Looks like you're too far into the hinterlands to warrant radar coverage.

It's been too long since my last update here, so this morning got up early to get a ride in around Mabprachan before the heat of the day kicks in.

In a nutshell, last time I saw the reservoir this low at this time of year was during the drought of 2015. Sure hope rainy season is good to us this year otherwise we're probably looking at water rationing later in the year.

Correction, water levels were much worse April, 2020. Fortunately it was during the pandemic so we didn't have any pesky tourists drinking what little water remained.

We made it up to Bangkok today. Both the Mrs and myself have been under the weather recently, so I am not sure how much site seeing we will be doing in this heat. I do want to try the restaurant that @lazarus recommended.

The main purpose for the 4 day trip is for the Mrs' visa interview at the US Embassy. We will go through her docs once again tomorrow, so that she is fresh on everything for the interview. Tuesday is the actual interview. Our agent got an early time for the interview, so we will probably hustle it over to the embassy trying for a 7:30 arrival for an 8:45 interview. According to our agent one gets a seeding number based on their arrival time.

One disappointment so far. The dinner time party boats on the Chao Phraya are kicking up a bloody racket. I have stayed at the Chatrium Riverside 5 or 6 times in the past and do not recall there being an issue of this nature. I am unlikely to stay here again for this reason.

Good luck to the Mrs. on the interview.

I've entertained thoughts on trying for a visa for my lady, but as we're not married figured it would be a waste of time and money.

Any of you guys who live here, find yourself eating less because of the brutal heat?

I have lost 3 pounds in the last month....even though yes, being in an air-conditioned home, you still have to go out and about. Just seems like my appetite is just not as strong right now.

I normally weigh about 205 lbs, just checked, I am at 202 lbs.

Yesterday at the gym, someone said to me "you look a bit thinner"?

The heat hasn't affected my eating habits, it's my exercise routine that has been affected.

I've never cared for indoor exercising, so the brutal heat has really put a dent in my usual exercise routine of a daily bike ride or walkabout. I also haven't been on a hash run for about six weeks as I can't see myself enjoying running around jungle trail in the later afternoon heat of the day.

Hmmm - when I click on your link I get YFIY subs. This one is definitely ad happy, worse than subdl IMO. Glad that it works for you, but I guess that I will keep looking for now.

I came across this link that lists various sub sites.

    https://www.similarweb.com/website/subdl.com/competitors/

Looks like yts-subs and yfiy-subs may be two different things. Anyway my current cunning plan is to go through the list in the link and see if I can find something that I like.

I'm not even aware if a site is ad happy as uBlock Origin blocks them for me.

Wow, that is low. The CEO should be knocking your ex-boss down a peg or two for creating a toxic work environment.

Kind of a sad item (at least for me) to report. For years I have been using "Subscene" as my go to place for subs. They shut down operations yesterday with only a 12 hour notice. I am not sure what an underlying reason might have been.

One former user is recommending "Subdl" as an alternative.

    https://subdl.com/

I tried them out today and they are a little ad happy for my tastes. They have reportedly an inventory close to "Subscene". I do not download subs a lot as I usually pick up video materials that come with subs. I could live with "Subdl", but am shopping around as well.

    Any recommendations?

    I use YTS Subs.

With Lazada and Shopee giving out free shipping...

And very often being able to score 10-15-30% off the retail price if the coins and vouchers are all in line......I would be wary of trying to sell consumer goods.....I think a restaurant would be a much better bet...

Or a beer bar complex. We could always use more beer bars here. :default_cool:

  11. Definite not the smartest thing to do when traveling internationally. Stash your blow in your passport.

British Man Arrested at Phuket Airport after Cocaine Found in Passport

    ...
Jamie Louis Swain, the British national arrested at Phuket International Airport, is reported to be 29 years old and hails from Enfield, North London. He arrived in Phuket on an Etihad Airways flight on the evening of his arrest planning on a holiday.

There is no detailed public information available about his background or travel history beyond this incident. It’s also noted that he seemed surprised and reportedly started shaking and cursing when the cocaine was found in his passport, which led to further inspections and his subsequent arrest.

This isn’t the first incident where a tourist arrived at the Phuket airport with cocaine inside of their passport, as a similar incident took place to an Australian national, as seen below, in November of 2023. That suspect denied the bag was his and said he had never done drugs in his life and claimed, without evidence, that he had been set up.

  12. The new shop across from Nirun has opened. I wish them success. One problem I think they'll be facing when the rains return and the wind is from a northerly direction is their inventory is going to get soaked. They have retractable covers on three sides, but nothing on the front that I saw that they could pull down to stop wind driven rain from entering.

Talk about opening IMDB ratings being all over the place. I had "A Man in Full" on my to checkout list. It opened with an IMDB of 4.5, so I scratched it from my list. It also had some bad reviews. As I looked further into those reviews, the show was being labeled with Woke criticism (I still have no idea what that means).

Anyway, I noticed there are also some complimentary reviews and the show's IMDB had gone to 6.7. Back on my list. Usually IMDB ratings start out too high due to those pushing a show. In this case it appears that some segment wanted to punish the show. That is unusual.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Man_in_Full_(miniseries)

I have downloaded the show and watched the first few minutes of S01E01. Seemed like a good start to me. It will probably be a month before I get around to watching the show in earnest. I will try to remember to report back.

Just had a look at user reviews on IMDb and with only 14, the first being on the May 2nd, I don't think there's enough yet to draw a conclusion based on the reviews.

My practice is to filter out the early reviews, that most often are probably shills for the movie, by sorting reviews by  descending date order.
