To get a COE, you still need to have a valid visa, ASQ booking, a flight booked and the associated insurance. Nothing has changed with that respect.
The only thing that seems to have been relaxed is who can apply for a visa.
From what I see on the FB groups there has been a big change over the last 2 or 3 days. Apparently a 30 day on arrival can be extended in Thailand but of course it's breaking news and nobody has actually done it yet. As always though the place to check is the RTE not some gobshite on the internet 👀.
Met a few guys on the last few days of my quarantine who had all but given up hope of getting back. Then all of a sudden it's game on....
f**k site easier to sort out from home country rather than stuck in Saudi or Afghanistan.
For what it's worth I think quarantine will be in place for at least another 3 months, probably 6.
I will do that review I promised in my other thread, honest 😏. It's my third night home and still settling in ...

I booked a flight today from Swampy to Udon, leaving Saturday morning. Had a call from the hotel duty manager just now who said my travel plans would be confirmed either tonight or in the morning.
Eh? How did he know I'd bought a ticket?
Well it turns out that big brother really is watching you in Thailand during these times or maybe this is what effective track and trace is all about.
I had to give my onward travel details as part of the entry process. Didn't realize how closely the authorities would be monitoring people though. I am guessing I was flagged up when I made the reservation with Thai Smile.

Been up on the roof talking to fellow prisoners 👀 couple of Brits, bloke from Esco land and a German.
Fritz was an absolute basket case a couple of days ago because he had ran out of booze. Was funny listening to the Dutch guy ripping him a new arsehole about his alcohol addiction. Fare play to Fritz he (eventually) held his hands up and admitted his weakness.
I could murder a nice cold beer now though 😜

Try and work out a plan for that when this place is rotten to the core. My ex who is a user told me a friend of hers has a 'friend' who's a copper here, he supplies the Ice to smoke and I'd be willing to bet all my debts that in his chain of command it goes way up the ladder beyond him.
It'll never get tackled as there's way too much money involved and too many brown envelopes changing hands, sure the BiB will proudly announce they caught such and such a big dealer and show photos of their haul but I honestly wonder what then happens to that haul and the dealer they caught ?
Unfortunately mate I can well believe everything you've posted 😕
Mrs smiler was telling me only last week that a couple of lads in the village have problems and its common knowledge who they buy from.
Years ago Thaksin attracted huge criticism for his solution, my brother in law (RIP) told me how it worked.
The village headmen would give a few private warnings to users who were causing shit. If they didn't listen, clean up their act or f**k off somewhere else then they got a visit. I think it resulted in over 3000 killed. Of course it was abused, old scores settled etc etc BUT it sorted a situation that was getting out of hand...
I am not suggesting for 1 second this is the ideal solution. I wish I knew what was.

Seen some disturbing reports and footage of a yabaa crazed man in Udon. Two dead and three others seriously injured apparently.
It happened in the soi behind the prison, locally known as Food Street. Shit we lived near there, used to visit and buy stuff most evenings.
Sad state of affairs. One of these days Thailand really has to tackle it's drug problem. I've been saying it for years but....

Just watched a video on the BBC News Homepage on the political situation we can't discuss on here- so I won't provide a link.
Narrated by the BBC's long standing Bangkok based Asia correspondent Jonathan Head. It's currently the most watched video on the BBC site( click on news and scroll down "Change has arrived.....")
Nothing on the video, will be new to anyone following the situation, my feeling though is the BBC can smell big story and are possibly starting to raise the profile of "events" with an 8 minute video.
I saw that on the beeb website, really quite surprised it wasn't geo blocked here in Thailand.

Mrs smiler told me she really liked 60s band the Monkees. I thought she was telling lies, thought she had never heard them.
So as a test I played one of their songs, then I saw her face...

Was gonna go to Vietnam a month a go ... and yea, I would have have to be quarantined when I returned to Thailand .. no way
That is like another prison sentence for me ... live free or just die
I am not doing it because I want to. It is the only way I can get home to what matters to me more than anything else - my wife and kids.

I heard that most Quarantine hotels are fully sold out and you may end up having to book one of the more expensive hotels anyway, as that maybe all that left for your dates!
TBH I am obviously concerned about a lack of choice but if availability continues to be as good as it would appear to be today, then no worries, well for the dates I am looking at anyway.
New hotels are being added to the approved list by the week. There is even a special promo running for discounts offered at certain places - Best Western up to 10k baht off bookings made by 13/11 for instance.
Who can tell what availability will be like in a months time or even next week I guess, TIT and all that.
At the moment I am narrowing my criteria by how flexible the hotels are in unforseen date changes and how much money they need at time of booking. Seems many require payment to their banks, no cards..

I am researching hotels in Bangkok for my quarantine stay. There would appear to be a good choice with prices starting from 29.000 baht to infinity 👀
So what's important?
For me it has to be strong internet, edible food and a window 😁 and of course, value for money.
Is it worth going for the cheapest place or spending twice as much money?

Good luck to you Mr Smooth 👍

I was sort of lucky with my dose I guess. On the plane back to blighty I went for a piss and couldn't help but notice a green discharge - the legendary green monkey 😬
36 hours later I had some nurse stick a swab down my jap's eye and as the puss was in full flow, I didn't feel a thing. Apart from acute embarrassment.....
Had a shot & 7 days of antibiotics then went back and f**k me squared the swab was painful, no puss lube this time. The nurse was a big Jamaican lady with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. I swear I would have punched her if I hadn't of been in abject agony.
One other thing I remember now that I cast my mind back, the Doc told me not to drink whilst taking the pills because it might weaken their effectiveness.
TBH code if I was in your situation I think I would be going to a clap clinic rather than self medicating. Not trying to, as you say "bust your balls" 👀 just offering an opinion for what it's worth. Good luck 🤞

I am paraphrasing @STARGAZER on another forum, he said something along the lines of "emotion less sex holds no appeal these days". I have been the same since I met Mrs smiler.
I am not saying my shit doesn't stink or that I am some sort of saint. I am just a bloke and sometimes need to let off a bit of steam as it were but kind of glad I don't think with my dick anymore.
More than a few times over the years Mrs s has told me that if I go short time then she doesn't want to hear about it. That's fine by me 😊
Back on topic, last time I caught a dose, around 15 years ago, I went to the hospital in Southampton. Really don't want to do that again 👀

Last time I spoke with her was yesterday morning when she was just about to get in an ambulance. Her sister has spoken with her but when I try the number it just offers extension numbers but when I try to hit the extension it just goes silent and then cuts me off. I have asked her sister to see if she can get her to message me somehow. Pretty obvious they are not allowing her to use WiFi or mobile data and her sister is just getting her info from a hospital source.
Kataleya does not understand why mummy is not talking with her, bloody annoying time.
We take it for granted in these days of instant global communication. You have my sympathies mate, I know how frustrating it can be. Hope you can get to talk to her soon Dave and she is quickly out of hospital.
From the FB groups I am following, it's clear the Thais are not taking any chances with arrivals and Porn won't be the first to spend 24/48 hours under close observation.

Just made the decision - going to start the long journey back from UK to the jungle. Sure I don't want to pay to be locked up in a hotel for 2 weeks but can't wait any longer to get back to the family 🎉

I really enjoyed the Dr Siri books, read them when I was working in Laos a couple of years ago. They capture the spirit of the Lao people and culture superbly IMHO.

Quarantine at O2 Luxury Hotel
in General topics
Posted
First lesson learned: Any hotel that has "luxury" as part of it's name probably is not luxurious at all 😏
Arrived mid day 27/11 feeling elated to be back in Thailand and exhausted from the stress of long distance travel in these messed up times. That said both flights from London and Dubai were great with a whole row to stretch out on.
I decided fresh air and a balcony were at the top of my list of priorities for quarantine. The O2 did not disappoint. It's out of town about 20mins from Swampy. Having a balcony was an absolute god send, the room only got an hour of early morning sun and I had the doors open all day.
The room was around 45 square metres, spotlessly clean and for the vast majority of the time I was there, very quiet.
Internet was fast and reliable, no worries running my firestick, lappy and phone at the same time.
On day 7 after a negative Covid test I was able to use the roof area.
Met some good lads up here which made my incarceration that much easier to deal with. You are only supposed to go up once a day for an hour but it wasn't policed at all, so a group of us would meet up 2 or 3 times a day. Lots of laughs and interesting people/stories.
On the downside: I did not enjoy the food. For me it was at best 3 out of 10, I am only giving it that because of the fruit 😬. You get to choose from a menu for the next day.
Only 1 guy I met said the food was ok. So pleased I brought a cheese board, bickies, anti-pasta and chocolate with me. You could order from a limited 7-11 menu though.
I am not afraid to say the quarantine thing was mentally tougher than I thought it would be. Staying in a hotel room for 2 weeks, how fucking hard can it be?? Well first off you really can't leave the room and I felt the walls closing in a few times. The stress of knowing all could turn to shit if you tested positive or inconclusive really can't be underestimated either.
Once I had finished the food I brought with me, I found my day was centered around the meals, if they were shite (most of them were) then that affected my mood.
Part 2 coming soon...
