    Premier Inn breakfast buffet £11.99

    Now that is a breakfast.

Have to say I have never been disappointed with their breakfasts when staying at Heathrow. Went to one in Merthyr Tydfil and it was an order to table but those at Heathrow are 'help yourself' buffets and that makes them amazing value.

So arrived in Udon Thani on Monday and got the  new car and bike licences today.

Monday: Medical certificates (200 baht, 100 baht each), 30 minutes

Tuesday: Residence certificates (1000 bbaht, 500 baht each) 30 minutes

Wednesday: Driver's licences (760 baht, car 505 baht and motor bike 255 baht) 90 minutes. This would have only taken 30 minutes as well but the licences referenced my old passport and not my new one. I didn't have my old passport or a photo of it so my mum had to go around to my house in Australia and take a photo of the old passport which they then accepted.

So what was needed for each licence: Medical certificate, Residence certificate, copy of my passport main page, visa page and the page with entry stamp. Also had to the online DLT training and show a copy of the QR code showing it was completed. Also needed to show them the QR code for the booking appointment time for today.

Glad you got it all sorted.

The differences for me in Hua Hin (Pranburi) was that I watched the video at the centre (55 mins), spent 5 mins doing the practical inhouse tests. I also got 2 resident certificates (1 for bike, 1 for car) free of charge. That saved a bit of money, although had to wait 48 hours to pick up.

Presume you also got 5 years from your next birthday?.

lol 😆 No, they always just tell Sa in Thai, and we get ushered to fast track to the far right as entering. If it didn't happen, I would get Sa to ask the staff.

May try that next time (likely summer '25) but Kataleya will be 10 by then. Must admit I will probably be kissing the floor that I am in Thailand, so if we don't get ushered (even if after asking), I will still have a smile on my face.

I am sure you are really happy to be in the LOS, well envious....

  4. Very tragic event but probably going to cause mayhem with the need for many to get to work.

Looking at a map of Baltimore, it does look like that bridge was a saviour for many to get about; looks like detours for many during rush hour and basic traffic chaos for months, if not longer.

Immigration wasn't too bad, wasn't much of a queue that I noticed, though we were ushered to fast track as per usual.

    5 mins max.

Though took about 30mins for bags to come, but come they did, so all good compared to last 2 trips with EVA.

    Glad you arrived safely.

Got to admit that on all the occasions I have traveled through immigration, with Kataleya, not once have I been ushered through Fast Track.  Possibly I have arrived and the immigration area hasn't been too busy and just went with the flow. Can't remember it being really busy at any time but it seems you get ushered at all times, you are not getting your little one to kick ankles are you?

    It looks bloody delicious mate!!!

The annoying thing is that when I was Kateleya's age, the calories would be burned off on an afternoon bike ride followed by a game of footie...I am sure it is the same for her too!!!!

Nowadays my arteries are clogged just reading the ingredients !!

It was so rich, I cold only get through a small slice. Both Kataleya and Porn want me to make another for her birthday but I am under strict instructions to make the biscuit and butter base thicker. I would probably prefer a slightly less heart trembling cheesecake but they loved the Millionaire's version.

I'm usually ready for home, even with only doing 3 or 4 week trips.

But, i usually have another already booked. Like we fly Tuesday night, and i have already the next one booked for when the schools break up in July.

Though i like to go other places as well, enjoy Turkey, but now i've discovered Lapland and all it has to offer, it's gonna be a yearly pilgrimage, if not more. Already booked for end of Feb next year to Lapland, flights and accommodation, 8 nights.

Places like Turkey or Lapland are fine for 10 days or so, though unless i could get near enough 3 weeks, i wouldn't go to Thailand, all the cost of airfares and time spent travelling. At the moment we're restricted to school holidays, though not complaining, it's what i wanted and happily signed up for!

The school holidays are my curse, as to travel any other time requires my wife to take time off for me. There will come a time when Kataleya can let herself in/out of the house and mummy will be back later, but that time is a few years away (she is only 9 next Sunday).

In Bangkok on the way home,I met up with an old mate in Chequers on Soi Nana.

The guy on the right used to run Bobby's Arms which was in a car park in Patpong & later the Queen Vic on Soi 23 just outside of Cowboy. The guy with the beard is a friend of a friend.A great night of nostalgia wallowing.

Blimey, Bobby's Arms, there's a bar from my nostalgic past. Had many a good night around that area.

I read he had 30 to 40 mins of CPR and his heart was beating by the time he was put in an ambulance. I hope this type of thing doesn't catch on.

I agree, especially if it starts to happen on flights to Bangkok lol

I think they will get docked points at the end of the season ready for the start of next season, so they start with a minus total. Next season will be about surviving using their "second teams" and best players for Europe and domestic cups..

Supposedly Chelsea can stop the possible Premier League Sanctions by selling certain players, according to media reports. Still sounds a bit fishy myself but June 30 deadline is an important date in this saga.

    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/other/chelsea-told-to-sell-three-players-for-110m-to-avoid-ffp-punishment/ar-BB1kiOnY

Still believe the Premier League will investigate further as so much money has been spent and not enough coming in.

  11. Mate sent me a picture of his afternoon drink today at the Centara Hotel, Hua Hin. I am envious, but also surprised that he paid only 115 baht for a small beer inclusive of ++. It was happy hour between 4-5.30 pm.

Now I know you can get it cheaper, but a drink at a beautiful hotel like the Centara for that price is well worth the visit. He spent a relaxing 70 minutes at the hotel, they even offer up decent snacks to accompany the beer, no salted peanut crap. Pretty nice view as well.

The big clubs are protected. How can Barcelona operate with a billion euro debt?.

All about the Benjamins as they say.

Not sure the big clubs are protected, I think those cases are just ongoing. Don't deny they probably have top quality lawyers pushing the times frames but the Premier League haven't got around to them yet.

In fact the sanctions for Chelsea and Man City could be far worse than has been handed to Everton and Notts Forest.

I think it is a case of 'watch this space'

The situation with Chelsea and Manchester City is different. As of now, neither Chelsea nor Manchester City have been charged by the Premier League for any financial violations. UEFA previously fined Chelsea for a breach, but the Premier League operates under different rules. The investigation into City’s numerous charges is still ongoing, and the outcome remains unknown. Due to the complexity and scale of City’s case, it may take some time to reach a conclusion

  14. Had to walk in to Neath to get some pain killers. Didn't want to drink but I got a notification that, Greene King Dark Tide was on pump in the 'Spoon'.

Works a bit like a painkiller after 2 pints.

Wow, wifey and I both got the Shingles Vaccine( 2 doses)  when in Calif, they want everyone to get it when they hit 50 there.

65 in UK? WTF? Hope you get through it relatively pain free.....my next door neighbor back in Calif got it bad...I was here in Thailand in 2017 when he got it. When he got it, he took pics and showed me when I got back there to help my parents in 2019. It was absolutely brutal he told me. He DID NOT get the vaccine and he was 62 years old at the time. Bad decision he told me.

    Crazy here in UK.

When I saw all the advertising last year, I went to my doctor to get the vaccine; reception tell me that I could have it if I was turning 65, but, as I was now 68, I had to wait until I was 70. So anybody 66/67/68 or 69 can't have the vaccine but a 65 year old can, I really don't understand that.

I can still have the jab but that will still be after I turn 70.

Suffering today, constant pain across my right chest and back, like a burning sensation. It is bad but I am getting used to it and make myself comfortable, no exercise for a while. When my wife was putting the cream on my rash it was really painful even though she was being really gentle, it's not a nice thing to suffer from.

It is the balance issue that has got me worried more, nearly fallen over numerous times over last 2 days. Weird, just can't stay on my pins. Just a symptom of shingles that your balance can be affected.

Just have to weather the storm and hope it isn't a long bout.

    That sucks mate.

Pain is a huge motivator. I have heard that shingles is one of the most painful things there is. But I reckon there are different levels of it.

I was able to get the jab about five or six years ago, 58 or 59.

My brother had had skin issues most of his life.

I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Take care of yourself. But don't let the anxiety factor overload you.

I also suffer from Psoriasis plus some contributing factors for being prone to Shingles such as being over 60, being stressed, having an injury and being on statins.

This all started when I believe I may have damaged a muscle at the gym a couple of weeks ago, I am also over 60, on statins and presently pretty stressed.

Just rest and hope the pain doesn't get worse.

As it is a virus I can only take pain killers to ward off the pain although rest and a good diet will help.

Get well soon. I have had shingles and the severity of the condition varies. It will go quicker than you expect. NHS are now offering the shingles vaccine to those of a certain age. It's quite a common condition these days although not pleasant

Tried to get the shingles vaccine when the NHS started putting advertising out. Thing is, you can get it when you turn 65, but if 66 and above you have to wait until you are 70. Crazy system which has probably seen me get it when a vaccine would have prevented it.

Can't get my head around that one. I have read many pages on Google today and it appears many countries offering the jab were saying 'get it from 50 years'.

Pretty bad pain in my chest presently, doc says it may get worse before it gets better. Just got to rest.

Got Zovirax to put on 5 times a day but with Kataleya at school and Porn doing double shifts all week that won't happen as it is all across the right side of my back.

That looks great, shouldn't be any wobbliness after that

It was very nice but I will now be alcohol free and eating heathier to kick start my immune system which has been compromised.

For info, I tried to have the Shingles jab as they were giving it to those who had reached their 65th birthday. I was told that if you are 65 you can have it but as I was 68, I needed to wait till I was 70.

Now isn't that Thai logic, crazy and I live in Wales.
