Yeah Nikon makes great equipment too......the technology these days is amazing as far as these DSLR's and Lenses. Are you happy with your Nikon?

We have come a long way since I first bought my first camera 50 years ago in 1974...Minolta SRT 101....scraped by as a struggling college student to buy a "Vivitar" 135MM lens for concerts...can never forget using a roll of 36 Kodak Ektachrome film back in the day.  The challenge was after you took your first 36 pictures, could you unload it at a concert, and re-load your next roll of film without dropping it LOL! Yeah and a few "bong hits" didn't help either LOL! 20 or so years ago, Costco started taking slides and transferring them to a CD....

Glad I survived all of it back in the 70's...these concert pics and others are priceless to me.

I have the Nikon D3300 that I bought years ago. For the amatuer work I do I'm very happy with it.

Like you I've enjoyed photography since my HS days. Even had a darkroom in my parent's basement.

Most days I use my waterproof Olympus Tough TG-5. The Nikon gets used when I want to take shots at night, long distance photos, and hash shirt photos. I have a makeshift studio setup in a spare bedroom for the shirt photos. Those get posted to the hash shirt webpage (link).

Do you do anything to protect your gear from the heat and humidity when not in use? That was a big concern of mine as only two bedrooms in my home have A/C, which only gets turned on when we're in the room.

To protect my gear I bought a dry cabinet (link) which seems to get the job done. After buying one I realized I should be storing a few bits of other electronic gear in the cabinet, so bought a larger one to hold everything. If anyone is interested, the smaller, 30L cabinet on the top shelf in the pic below is for sale.

I finally had enough of Windows 11 and bought a new laptop which I've downgraded to Windows 10.

Moving my apps over to the new laptop has gone smoothly and I'm quite pleased how fast everything is running, and how fast reboots are compared to Win 11. Hopefully Microsoft does better on their next OS version.

One month on and Win 10 is performing brilliantly.

One thing I had forgotten about that was lost in Win 11 was the ability to drag maximised windows across multiple monitors. I just recently rediscovered and remembered that feature is baked into Win 10.

Working with a triple monitor setup I'm often times moving windows around. It was annoying when Win 11 was installed to find out I had to first "Restore Down" a maximized window before I could drag it across to another monitor. Once placed on the other monitor I would then have to click to maximise it again.

It was a small annoyance, but having to do that multiple times a day became a PITA. Can't imagine why the programmers of Win 11 removed that feature.

Anyway, happy days again with Win 10.

The Thai Meteorological Department should go back to school. The earth is closest to the sun around 4 January every year (Perihelion).
"The Thai Meteorological Department explained that summer typically begins in mid-February and lasts until mid-May, two and a half months. During this time, the Earth was closer to the sun and the sun was directly overhead, especially in April, when the sun was almost directly overhead in Thailand around noon daily, resulting in full exposure to sunlight."

The inaccuracy in this second quote may be due to poor writing and/or sloppy editing as September usually marks the beginning of the rainy season.
"Therefore, in September, which marked the end of the rainy season, heavy rainfall was common in almost every part of Thailand."

  4. The black, smelly water that was flowing out of a pipe in Na Jomtien a month ago has now made an appearance farther north in Jomtien.

I wondered at the time when it was reported they blocked and covered up the pipe in Na Jomtien if that was all they did. And if all they did was block the pipe as a quick and dirty fix, then that black, smelly water would be making an appearance elsewhere. And guess what...

Could'nt watch @thunder367 as it says its only available in the UK. I set my Nord VPN to the UK but it still would'nt work.

Back in the 70's/80's i had many great holidays on Ibiza, what a party island :default_party-smiley-048:

Here's the trailer on YT. Quote that probably sums it up best, "when you see more, you want more". Sad attitude to go through life with.

Excellent photos you posted in your Testing Out My New Lens topic. And good choice on your new lens. Of the lenses I own, my Nikkor 18-140mm is the one that gets used most often.

The nice thing about Bkk is that it is so easy to get around via the BTS which has aircon or taxis and Tuk Tuks, obviously no aircon in the latter.

Hard to wrap my head around how many people still want to drive when mass transit is so readily available. Even allowing for the last km to get to their destination, easy enough to hail a cab.

I think this year will be the biggest test of water sustainability since Covid Lockdown. Pattaya dodged a bullet there with the lack of tourists allowing the water to be replenished to where it is now.

Imagine what that graph would be like today had the city been full for all those years ...!!

I was thinking the same. Pic below is from April, 2019. Mabprachan was almost bone dry and the water utility was asking for voluntary water use reductions. But at the same time the city officials in their misguided attempt to be seen to be doing something about the China virus had water trucks out daily, washing down the sois. Just incredible how stupid some in positions of power can be.

Have to disagree with that last sentence. There's a very good chance the driver had what's called target fixation. My presence in his path of where he wanted to go never even registered in his mind as he had fixated on his destination. If I had been walking with my back to him, he probably would have clipped me with the side of his car.

Rather than continue OT in the Great Ranting Topic, I'll post this video here as a good example of what target fixation is. It's something that was an important part of the motorcycle training course I took. The trap is you tend to steer where your eyes are looking, which can be especially dangerous on curves. To counter it we were taught to turn our head in the direction we wanted to go to keep our eyes focused on where we should be going.

I thought Tony was finished years ago...

He probably needs the income stream to pay for the upkeep on his estate out near Khao Mai Kaeo.

April 1 to April 22  was horridly hot......Now its still plenty hot but its ever so slightly cooler so I do not have to run the aircon all day and night....

Not on my side of town it isn't. Where are you living, I want to be your neighbor and experience the ever so slightly cooler weather. Maybe rather than move I'll just camp out on your doorstep. :default_biggrin:
