Less than 15 min until 2024.

I've got to go downstairs and join the "party". I don't mind, but I'd rather be alone and able to reflect upon my thoughts.

For me, 24 is going to be a bit of a rough ride. I know I'll be losing my Dad, and also possibly the person whom I consider to me my second Dad and a very dear friend. The way my Cat is behaving, he's on fucking borrowed time as well.

Guys, let us hope to make a meet up in London for 2024. I feel there are some guys whom I need to put faces to on this forum, people I now consider friends. I've had a couple of absences from the forum and been bang out of order on occasion. @tommy dee @john luke @Nightcrawler and @Nickrock have always been gracious and kind and understanding enough to cut me slack and allow me to return. Thanks also to @Bryan for keeping the forum running and offering support in the areas where it is needed. FWIW @Bryan you have a new customer who is happy to put baht across the counter of your bars. I also publicly apologise for anything that I said previously which might have defamed or upset you or was out of order.

We've 5 mins left at my time of writing.

God Bless you all. I give all you guys best wishes for 2024, and hope it turns out that your health, wealth and happiness is fulfilled.

Best Regards and wishes to you all.

    Butch

I'm also nervous pre trip. my biggest worries are the things I've got little or no control over, such as a protest or accident on the way to the Airport, stuff like that. I even managed to break 2 metatarsals a week before flying a few years ago. That was touch and go and entirely not my fault.

I try to mitigate as much as possible nowadays, leave early for the airport etc. This reaped its own rewards a couple of years ago on our first trip post covid to the PI. Our flight was Singapore air leaving around mid day, the wife said we'll be fine leaving at 6, 2 hours to LHR, park up and happy days.

It turned out to be the busiest travel day of the year, I said we're leaving at 04:00 sharp. got to the M25 Junction at 0600 as it happens, and the M4 into LHR had been closed for roadworks, diverted into Slough, took a wrong turn but eventually ended up on the A4 into LHR. Queues outside T2 due to covid panic and general mayhem, but we got checked in early, through security and into Departures relatively easily. The relief once we sat down for an overpriced breakfast was palpable.

The flight was actually late due to the CC being caught in traffic outside the Airport.

Lesson learned, taken on board and I always leave early ever since.

I'm a bit phobic about getting to airports late I usually have about 2 hours to kill at swampy on my way home lol

  3. Few years ago I shouted the young fella back to see his grandparents the trip from Sydney to Bangkok was on the a380 and they upgraded him to business class on my dollar  he was drunk most of the way

On my frigging dollar and all my many trips iv never got a upgrade ( censored)

One thing that gets me is the Restaurant and venue reviews.

It is blatant advertising of course, but it also smacks of a bit of "freeloading" from the vloggers, getting free food and drinks, along with probably a payment to be featured on their channel. As mentioned by BM @Lemondropkid, best thing to do is to get on the ground and make your own mind up.

I know we have rules here so I won't name the place, but on the suggestion of a vlogger featuring a place on Soi 15 that apparently served excellent Pizza, I went there and tried one because I do like a pizza now and then. The place was overpriced to begin with, service was good but the quality of the food was awful. I've had better microwave pizzas from work tbh.

Pattaya bars are hit and miss at the best of times, but the way these vloggers sell them, you're left with the impression every bar serves excellent food and top quality drinks at cheap prices and is stacked to the roof with models.

    Couldn't agree more

Went to a couple of places one vlogger reviewed was nothing special same prices as everyone else mediocre service

I had a long chat with Rocky last trip, he gave me the "ins and outs" on the sale of his former bar. To be honest I thought it may have lasted longer than it did, given the location and reputation of the place. He did mention the new owner refused to listen to him on a few aspects however.

I am indeed excited to hear of a Ladyboy bar opening on LK Metro. IMHO there are too few ladyboy bars in the area, and we need more, preferably with built in "gloryholes" in the toilets. 😂, plus it'll give me somewhere to go ever since I was banned from "strangefellows" after the unfortunate incident with the gerbil and ping pong balls.

Seriously, I'm very doubtful on the potential success of an LB bar in that area. It looks like a bit of a "clutching at straws" effort. Pandoras has a half decent layout, but it'll never be a "Crystal" or "Kink" contender. Best to stick at the formula Ricky had, cheap draft and friendly staff.

I went a couple of times to ricks new place ( assuming it's the same Rick) I think it was the honey lounge on soi honey or the other one a few doors down

I have used Katesiree for the past 3 mornings .. getting in there at about  having a cheap beer...

Yesterday I was euphoric enough after visiting the dentist to buy the 2 staff and the room cleaner a street vendor coffee each. 75 Baht !!! What sort of response would a bar girl give to the offer of 25 Baht LD?? These 3 were so fucking happy !!!

Did a similar thing I tipped the baht bus driver a extra 10 bt coming back from the dentist ( the one you suggested) I must be in 2 week millionaire mode

  7. Haven't seen the video it's probably taken down the south island where most of the parrots are

The Kea is pretty smart it's worked out that the best food comes by car and and payback on the car for not giving up the food is brutal

It will peal off the rubber around you windscreen amputation of your car Arial  is another favorite and takes it to another level if it can get inside

Can apply to any bar that's basically not on any of the main drags, even, if you wish, within walking distance of Soi bukhao (shame buffalo Bar has lost its mojo - it would qualify here). I'll also open it up to the lesser walked Sois between Beach Rd and Second, such as Yamato etc, but not 6/7/8.

A decent small bar is next door to Page 10, Malila Bar. Good happy hour cocktails, a decent pool table and a half decent selection of girls (albeit in low numbers, maybe 5 at the most). What I like about the place is that they use "free pour" to measure out the spirits (or used to).

I've experienced a couple of mild earthquakes in my life. Very unsettling to feel what is supposed to be solid ground under you moving about like jello.

I have been at least 2 really good ones chimneys falling on to the roofs in one I had a big tractor shed after it had all calmed down my 6 ton tractor was straddling a big packet of construction beams

It's a big reason down here why we build in steel and timber ( they bend not break)  Thailand would be screwed if they had a good sized earthquake, they have reinforced beams ( sort of ) but the infill brick panels would pop out and crush people

A few years ago we were having a party outside our place in Korat & 3 cops turned up in plain clothes & joined in.

The eldest must've been quite high up as all the Thais were very respectful to him.Not sure what they were doing there but they seemed quite happy getting fed & watered on the house.Never seen or heard of them since.

They were just politely checking you out no drugs guns or gambling
