  1. Preface below comment with- 1. I hate guns, have never held one, never mind shot one in my life 2. NRA ranks right up there with Big Pharmy and Big Religion as the most evil congregation of $$$ disguised as political lobbyist in history of mankind, but it is still a distant 3rd compared to the other 2. 3. I am an ardent supporter of the second amendment of the US Constitution, but fact is, we the people lost the inherent intended rights our founding fathers bestowed upon us via the second amendment more than 150 years ago so not sure where the argument, whether it be pee shooter, AK47, or any purchase control comes into play in the year 2019. Now, to answer the above question directly - Yes Texas has open carry laws. But private property owners are allowed to "trump" the law and make their properties GUN FREE ZONES. The tragic events today happened in a GUN FREE ZONE, so the brave people you refer to were acting as law abiding citizens. Allow me to close with some more subjective conjecture. Guns are a problem, no doubt, but they are not THE PROBLEM. They are more a symptom of a bigger problem, that being mental health. For sure not a Seppo centric problem, but one big Pharmy and big Religion has exploited in America more than elsewhere simply because it has been the most lucrative market for profit over the past 100 years. But that trend is slowly changing and can be evidenced by the trends in violent crime and intentional homicide rates. Whilst US is still quite significantly above most of our fellow western cultures in cases per 100k people, it is fact that our trend for past 20 years has been down, and down significantly whilst the opposite holds true for our fellow Western cultures. Moral of the story....be careful what you wish for. You might be ahead of the curve on the gun thing, but don't be shocked when folk with mental health issues start using more than trucks on the promenades of Paris to destroy innocent lives but start using dirty bombs or chemical weapons to take out 1000's of innocent lives in one swoop. If we all don't start addressing the problem rather than lathering up over the symptom, well call me crazy but I fear a day when we all look back to the "good ole days" when the worst thing in the hands of a mentally disturbed individual was an A-47! Just saying.....................
  2. For sure we have folk on this thread who miraculously survived not just a first dose of the kool-aide, but a second one as well. What is shocking though is some are obviously waiting for a 3rd and final fatal dose. Mind boggling!

  5. who am I to say being an outsider and zero emotional attachment.....but sometimes that lens of objectivity can see things differently. Sometimes the vision of seeing the forest through the trees is just crystal clear. Secrets, when primary ownership changed only had one thing they needed to do to have a good chance of success again....could even create some positivity out of the negativity that became associated with the brand... That would of been to figure a way to give Larry a sizeable chunk of equity vested equally in 1/4s over a 4 year period, let him do what he was GREAT at, both from a forum and a day to day on property basis, than surround him with a few folk who might be really good at what Larry might not be so great at, and just step aside as a silent or passive majority shareholder and let nature take its course. I would venture to say nobody played a bigger role in the success of Secrets than Larry!
  6. prob some real to it....but come on, anybody who lived in HK knows Cathay pilots, and stewardess etc etc might have the most misguided pov when it comes to the "good ole days"...they were paid 40% more and required to work 20% less than any other major airline in the world....one of biggest scams in history. And their out right greed and refusal to negotiate in the 90's and early naughts is exactly why Cathay went from the # airline in world to a one almost as crappy as one of the US carriers. One of the best moves Swire ever made was to dump that albatross called CX on the Chinese and walk away. BTW, belated happy Bastille Day!
  7. @Thai... Again, the HK people have never had more say so in their governance than they have today. And they want more, and China will continue to try and push back. China is becoming more like the West. Li's strangehold as lifetime ruler is quite perilous domestically right now. China itself is a cauldron of social unrest getting ready to blow. Yes old hands "expats" are leaving HK. Just like they leave NYC, they leave SGP, they leave any battison of opportunnity as the opps become harder to come by. That said and done, here is another fact....there has been an INCREASE in non resident visa and work permits every single year in HK since 1979.......so there are more "expats" in HK today than ever. You don't have to be a lilly white euro or n american to be a switched on make it happen EX PAT! I just arrived back late last night. Plenty of deal making going on and plenty of flourishing commerce. The Cantonese are some of the most resilient people on the face of the earth. Many bumps in the road ahead for HK, just like for every major city on face of the earth. Maybe less in HK than the rest of G20 major commerce/urban centers. The societal issues that plague HK today is much more CORPOCRACY driven than becoming Chinese. In HK it is called the property cartel. That has been in place since the 70's and their stranglehold gets worse by the year. HK has changed. I was astounded I had a HKD$20.00 pint of ice cold Carlsberg yesterday at Queen Vic. That was unthinkable in years gone by. I than moved down the street and went upscale Italian and had a nice Italian Micro draft for HKD$67 hh price. I than headed over to 1 IFC as I had time to kill b4 going to airport and had a 150 HKD 12 oz bottle of flipper san miguel.....3 beers, 3 establishments, ranging in price from under USD$3.00 to USD $20.00. Will be back in 2 weeks to look for my new apartment. HK has changed, but one thing has not changed. If you are good at what you do, there is so much opportunity and so much energy. It is a one of a kind place......
  8. Whilst the main pillar of the 1984 SINO BRITISH JOINT DECLARATION has always been the transfer of SOVEREINGTY back to China, and during the first 50 years a two system practice, not sure your last sentence shows a firm grasp of the history of HK? HK was officially a Crown Colony of Britain for 154 years. Never once did the Brits even consider allowing a local election under democratic principles for 148 years. In 1985, a year after the Joint Declaration was signed, indirect elections were held for a very small portion, 18 seats, in LEGO. In 1991 further reforms were implemented where a minority of LEGO was done by the popular vote based on geographical districts and it was not until 1994 that LEGO was a true broadly representative body. It is not 100% universal suffrage for the Chief Executive position which was supposed to be by 2017, and hence that is what the 2014 Umbrella Movement origins were about. The local Cantonese have always stood up and demanded a say even though the Brits never gave them a voice in government. Hence history shows major events in 1925-26 with the HK-Canto Strikes, the Riots of 1966, the Maoist Riots of 1967... You claim the young Hong Kongers today were betrayed by their parents generation. You could not be farther than the truth on that one my friend. Spicy it was the Hung Hom protest in 1986 and finally the balls of the parents generation to hold a hunger strike in front of Xinhau's HK Office (Chinese State Media) that forced for the first time ever in HK history, a popularly elected LEGO represantation. The parents generation of current HK are the biggest hero's since they were colonized in 1853! The parents generation is exactly why their are now lawmakers participating in the protests of 2014 and 2019. Hard bitter truth is the HK people have more say in their governance today than they have ever had. By a LONG SHOT. Why, because the parents generation FORCED it! Like any society, the more say the people have, the larger the discourse will be. The world is changing from A-Z. Hong Kong has changed, but again bitter truth is China today is much more like HK of 1996, than HK is like China of 1996. For sure some bumpy road ahead, but one thing I am certain of,...Hong Kong continuing its ascent to a free democratic society is not a lost cause as you claim....Li and his circle will fall before HK gets as you call it "gobbled up" And let's not confuse corpocracy with democracy. HK right now faces the same challenges has most of the modern world. DEMOCRACY IS GETTING gobbled up by CORPOCRACY.

Not to contradict you but I can't give caddies enough credit. It is not an accident why some caddies win a bunch of tourneys, majors included who end up carrying bags for multiple players during their career. They need to be multi talented....play at a high level, read greens at a higher level, be a weatherman, a psychiatrist and a best friend all at the same time. Almost like a good bartender, sans the ability to play a good game of golf.

Bring on The Open.....my early call it will be the return of Rory and Speith to the final group on Sunday of a Major, with all the usual suspects right in the mix. Tiger, DJ, Adam Scott, and Justin Rose....and ooops, let's not forget about that Brooks guy😎. I will go record now...Rory wins it!

fook me, my HDPrimeTV subscript just came to an end and don't have time to run down to 7/11 for a top up. Depending on 24/7 for real time update on last 2 holes.

Gonna be a massive test of mental fortitude for Woodland to be out there all by himself with 3 holes to go trying to protect a lead in the final round of a US Open. Many a man have cracked big time in this situation....let's see how Gary does. Hope Brooks can get a birdie here on 18 to really ramp up the pressure cooker.

THis Sky Sports logo being located right where they show player scores on the screen is a PAIN IN THE ARSE! If Brooks wins this people are going to have to start thinking the best Majors player since Tiger prime. It is unreal how little publicity this guy gets considering what he has already done at a relatively young age!

Gonna be a battle between Justin and Brooks on the back nine for the title. Shaping up to be a dandy.

Hope not....I say -4 will win the tournament and that is an unusually low score for a US Open course set up.....

who would of ever thought the complaint at a US Open would be some greens not playing fast enough......thought hell would of frozen over before I ever heard that complaint....the technology available to modern greenskeepers is absolutely unreal on how fast they can change how a course plays...will be interesting to see if they over react to the complaints and we see the fastest greens in history come Sunday. Tiger far from out of it! Should be an interesting final two rounds.
  21. Ha ha, even though I am from the North Shore heart of Cub country and grew up in a house of die hards I am first a White Sox fan...but living overseas for 25 years now I am a Chicago fan, have no problem rooting for the Cubs. But if it was Sox/Cubs in World Series, 100% I am on the Southside bandwagon. Sox heading in right direction for sure. 2020 will be our 2015 year for the Cubs. 2021, White Sox World Champions. Take it to the bank!
  22. Can't help but notice your Cubs logo. Born, bred and raised in Lake Forest, IL.
