Rod Stewart was born in England with a Scottish father. If Scotland was a separate country then that would be sufficient for him to be Scottish.

If ever Scotland does leave the UK and Scottish passports are needed Rod Stewart won't be the only one who has to prove his case.

Annie, my Grannie was born in Edinburgh which makes me enough of a plastic Scot to have played football for Scotland.

As this born and bred cockney did not learn this fact until I was 37 years of age I never faced the difficult choice between offering my services to either England or Scotland. 🤣

  2. Rod Stewart - Whole family lived 5 minutes walk from my home in Highgate Village, North London. I played several times in the same Sunday morning footy team run by his uncle and brother. I was still at school and relied on a lift to the ground. He turned up once in a Lamborghini Miura. Strictly speaking, he is English.

Lulu and Maurice Gibbs were part of my newspaper round in Hampstead.

If I had failed my 11+ I would have been at school with Ray and Dave Davies of the Kinks. 🤣

Sting and George Michael both lived in Highgate. They didn't drink in the Red Lion and Son or The Gatehouse.

Dunno how far Google history goes back Mr. Force, but it was the Black Pearl around the 2011 / 2012 period mate.

My mates and i had a few memorable Birthday parties there, as you rightly state, there was good ( bloody great in fact ) fun to be had there....

It was most definitely The Black Pearl I was thinking of and Aqua-Demi was the one quite close to where I went fishing a few times. In fact it was the guy that owned the fishing park that took me there the first time.

  4. Who remembers the various bars on the Darkside that had swimming pools?

I used to go to a couple from time to time which were really "dirty". Well the girls were not the pools!  🤣

I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the bars. I make new friends every day as well.

One was near where I used to go fishing but the main one I am thinking of was way out but very popular. Had a fair sized  indoor pool the girls used to romp around sans kit if bought a drink. I remember sharing a wee plunge pool wondering if I would survive. 😄

What is the overall recovery time for an all out hip replacement....as in, when do you actually feel better and can get on with life? I know it would vary from person to person, how bad it is etc.

Nothing but the best going forward...

Well the actual operation seems to be relatively routine these days. From U-tube videos I have viewed they have you up and walking almost immediately like the next day.

I have been on my *diet in hope that my luck would turn and I would receive notification of when I could look forward to the operation. I thought that getting down to my target weight would make the recovery period so much easier. There is bound to be a post operative exercise program to be followed.

I remember Larry (Soi 7) having his double hip replacement and although I cannot recall how long he took to recover it did not seem to have been all that long. What I do know, for sure, was that for maybe years after he used to go on a long walk almost every day.

Today I am hobbling around with the aid of a walking stick and in great pain. If after the operation I can throw away the stick for ever and walk again albeit maybe with some discomfort I will settle for that for sure.

*I received the good news phone calls whilst doing my usual Friday visit to my daughter. When she was giving me a lift back home she suggested celebrating the good news. I broke my diet for the only time in 13 weeks by sitting in the car and eating something called a "Fleurie Galaxy" ice cream from McDonalds. It was delicious! 🤣

Impact sports mate. Contussions to the joints, etc.

A couple years ago I developed lower back issues. Basically a buldging disk. The initial pain was extrodinary. I took steroids and muscle relaxants my first two weeks. Began doing basic back exercises and continued to walk through the pain (blood flow helps with the inflammation). Over time things have improved but not to the level I would like. The pain is always there, but I have learned to tolerate it. I also believe that in time I can improve even more.

Around the time this disk thing developed I began to notice my neck (upper spine) cracking. I never had this before. It is very noticable. Doesn't hurt much but it annoys the piss out of me. I asked doc if there is anything that can be done. I figured it is primarily a build up of calcium (ageing). I kind of smiled as I was  asking him because I pretty much knew what the answer would be. He kind of smiled back because he knew I knew. He just answered "nope". We both got a chuckle out of it.

We get stiff and creaky as we age, try to manage it the best we can, expect some pain. In time hopefully things will improve. When this kind of stuff first hits us it is depressing, as time goes we learn tricks and routines to better manage. Do whatever you can to keep the blood flowing. Paraplegics even have upper body row machines, there are things you can do to keep the blood flow up without banging your knees.

You mentioned the cracking from your upper neck area and how annoying it is. I get a lot of pain from my knee/hip but the thing that like you really pisses me off is the constant cracking I get, in my case, in my knee.

The "experts" completely ignore my knee referring always to it being residual pain from my hip. There may be an element in that but it feels to me that I am walking bone on bone in my knee.

A CNN article on how a healthy lifestyle can add years to your life. I'm hoping that by going out drinking with friends, socializing (point no. 8), will counteract point no. 6. :default_cheers:

These 8 habits could add up to 24 years to your life, study says

No. 1: First on the list was exercise, which many experts say is one of the most important behaviors anyone can do to improve their health. Adding that one healthy behavior produced a 46% decrease in the risk of death from any cause when compared with those who did not exercise, Nguyen said.

"Exercise according to the experts is the No.1 factor in improving ones health and life expectancy"

I have been a distance runner; footballer; golfer; jogger; hiker, and daily cyclist.

So how come I have osteoarthritis in both knees, take two types of opioids to counter the pain and am in the queue waiting for a hip replacement operation?

    I love "experts".

I tried to obtain clarification from my medical "expert" as to whether it is safe to take oral morphine in addition to co-codamol or instead of co-codamol. That has never been made clear to me. The first appointment for me to speak to him over the telephone is 10:00am on 25th August.

Not being completely stupid, in the interim I have taken the default position of if I feel the need to take the oral morphine I skip the co-codomol.  Neither appear to make any difference anyway.

  8. Crossing Second Road at the traffic lights is always dangerous because as soon as the lights go red on the main drag and you think it is safe to cross the motorbikes turning right out of Pattaya Tai come flying round the corner.

If I was crossing there I always made sure there was several ladies to the right of me giving me cover. May not be the most gentlemanly thing to do but self preservation comes first.

He's me eating salmon regularly thinking its very healthy lol

With the exception of Tuna I eat all the above fish plus smoked haddock as the fish half of my carnivore diet. I also add chopped smoked salmon off/cuts in scrambled egg.

Completed 14 weeks on Sunday and total weight loss now 16.5 kilos (2.5 stone)

I think that before I started this diet I must have been well into the pre-diabetic range. A blood test a month ago had me right on the line and my GP is no longer concerned particularly as my kidney function was normal. They do not like one taking diclofenac for too long.

I monitor my blood pressure on a daily basis as I have for years. I was very concerned that it went up as soon as I began taking the pain meds for my hip/knee whilst at the same time I allowed my weight to climb. I am still taking the meds, even more so now, but as my weight reduced so did my BP readings. Just took this mornings reading which was 117/73 which for somebody my age who can do little meaningful exercise is fine.

As far as I am concerned, all fish is healthy and works for me.

Sorry to hear of your plight mate, good luck with it all. My pain has subsided somewhat to the point i can easily cope with it with the help of the Ultracet and i'm gradually weaning myself of the meds. I share your concerns regarding morphine, it was prescribed to me when i suffered chronic back pain which eventually led to a back operation some 8 years ago but its starting to rear its ugly head again.

After taking the morphine i became dangerously dizzy/disorientated and could'nt do anything other than lay down, it frightened the life out of me and thats from a regular LSD user in my youth lol.

The only side effects I get from any of the meds I take is co-codomol makes one constipated. I take Lactulose every 2 or 3 days and don't go far from the bathroom. Guaranteed at least a three flush dump! 🤣

  11. I don't like spiders. I could not pick one up so I suppose that counts as a phobia.

I watched a U-tube video of some guy running along the "Knife Edge" leading up to the top of Snowdon mountain in Wales. Sheer drop on either side and the guy was insane. I could not watch it and had to change the station. It actually gave me vertigo just watching him and took me 5 minutes or so to feel normal again.

Is "touching wood" for luck a reverse phobia? 😄

How bad is the pain mate ? i think i may have a hip problem developing. A few nights ago i could'nt sleep until i took some Ultracet, the pain was bad, real bad.

I can sit here on my laptop and I have virtually no pain.

As soon as I stand up and try to walk I experience extreme pain in my left hip and knee. It is very hard for me to tell which is worse. My mobility is now very restricted.

I take co-codamol three time each day and oral morphine as required at bedtime. Other than the latter helping me get through the night I am not convinced that any of them help much with the pain. The word "morphine" scares me and I try to limit using it but that does not stop my local Pharmacy delivering repeat prescriptions each month whether I ask for it or not.

My GP told me that the recent follow up x-rays had shown that my hip has deteriorated greatly and that he was not at all surprised when I mentioned how much the pain had increased. It is now totally down to the Consultant to decide whether he considers this warrants moving me up the waiting list.

Apparently, he is still on holiday.

I hope he is having a good time!!

  13. Phoned Simpson's Medical Practice today for a follow up appointment with my GP.

He is on holiday as well. 🤣

Told they can book me in for the first available telephone consultation after he returns.

"Okay, when is that?" says I

    "10:00am ( +or- 30 minutes) on Friday 25 August?"

I was tempted to ask if that was this year or next but these Receptionists are not known for their sense of humor.

  14. I have been waiting for feedback as it has been about 10 days since the surgeon who will probably carry out my hip replacement operation was requested to review the results of my follow up x-rays on my hip and knee.

I decided yesterday to telephone the Manager of the hospital department who supports the surgeon to hear if they have any news for me.

Yes they do.................he is on holiday!

The nice lady Manager says she will immediately send him another email so that he has two waiting when he returns.

I resist the urge to eat my bar of Bournville.

I will give the cat a good kicking instead..........................except I don't have one!

When I was regularly working out and lost 40 lbs. I just looked at my belt size and avoided the scale.

My problem is because of the pain I experience from my hip and knee I cannot work out in any of the ways that I would like. I will try to persevere using the kettle ball but weight training and upper body strength exercise is totally alien to me. When I was a footballer none of the training I did involved weights although I know they do that now.

I really miss my daily cycle rides.

    Viagra Vikings CC.JPG

I have lost 35pounds to date which leaves me 22 pounds still to go by the 13th October.

My son-in-law has it fixed in his mind that I like bars of Bournville chocolate

and he is not wrong. He comes round to see me and as he leaves gives me a bar of chocolate. I say, "Thanks but you know I am on this diet."

He laughs as he leaves saying one will not hurt me. He means well but it WILL hurt me as it will break my cycle of not cheating myself once since I started my diet.

I should have thrown it away but it sits like the elephant in the room at the back of a food cupboard with all the other products I cannot eat any more. 🤣

    YES !!!! Brilliant save

    Double save really!

What a way to end a football match.

Did you notice the England player who had been red carded having already been substituted consoling the Spanish player who missed the penalty. Talked to him for some time with his arms round the Spaniard. Showed real compassion and sportsmanship.

Hey, she's cute but I don't know her music - which like most "modern" music I probably wouldn't care for anyway - but I would not stand in line for 36 hrs anywhere for anybody - sorry, I just lack the patience.

I once stood in line for 10 hours on the pavement in White Hart Lane so I could get in to watch the Gooners beat the Spuds to win the league and I had chicken pox .......or German measles?

    Not many people know that.

Apart from the usual Premier league lovers of United, spurs and West Ham... There are a couple of Blackburn Rovers supporters, at least one WBA supporter, a Leeds united fan and your obvious favourite... An Ipswich Town supporter. Not sure if there is a canaries fan on here tbh.

I just remembered a few more.

    @galenkia.... QPR supporter.

    @Pumpuynarak... Southampton

@Jambo .... Depends on where he lived.... Hearts, villa and arsenal.

    @john luke  Leeds united.

The Guy who sat immediately behind me at Tynecastle not only had his Hearts season ticket but also holds a season ticket at the Villa. We had plenty of Villa stories to swap at half time at the Hearts.

I enjoyed my time at the Villa and Hearts but I will for ever more be a Gooner. I was 8 years old when my "Grandad" stood me on a wooden box on the North Bank. My Scots grandson is a Gooner as well. 😄

  19.  Went for a haircut today with my 11 year old Grandson. I had to smile listening to Morgan giving detailed instruction to Sweeney Turk . He seemed very pleased with the end result.

I only the other hand simply said short on the back and sides, trimmed on top. He simply ignored me and cut it short all over. 😄
