  1. Lunch today at the Belgian place. Had a nice chat with the owner, who gave me a few tips on bars / restaurants to see in the area. Escargots, TBH today they tasted a little bit less nice due to a lack of parshley/butter sauce. Mussels. Was bit surprised by the carrots...and for me not enough "soupe" in the casserole. But tasted nice. He gets them from Chili. 200k IDR (450 b for 1/2 kg). Not cheap, but decent plate of mussels is not easy to find in SEA.
  2. Back to daily Bali routine... Frog legs, yeah, yeah...I know ! But dancing frog ! ! 😄😄
  3. Marmite vs Vegemite... Now thats a shit debate..... Maybe need to open a thread on that ?
  4. Surabaya domestic terminal has a souvenir shop that besides selling all the touristic crap and batik shirts, has a toy section where they have some nice models (1/24) so every time I go through I buy one. Yesterday added the Renault R8 Gordini. They cost the equivalent of 9 large Bintangs bloody hell ...... Not really sure they use the proper ruler for the scale when I compare the R8 and the VW !
  5. Hahaha, Thanks mate, nice find. Confirms this old frog is completely outdated now ! Sure easier to read.
  6. Some people should stick to eating fish and chips with mushy peas.....
  7. OK, a bit off topic, but I thought I better put it here than in the food thread. As you know (if you didn't miss too many lessons at school...) Indonesia was colonialized during a time by the Dutch. As any in any colonization traces will remain for a long time (maybe forever), and in Indonesia the influence of Dutch food is one of those things. Language is another. Note that this is more concentrated on Java as it was there that the Dutch has their main bases and trading posts. Garuda inflight magazine has a subject on this, and I thought it could ne interesting. Here you go. Special note to @Esco and @Evil Penevil who may recognize some familiar stuff ? Sorry for the quality, taken with my phone from a magazine on the plane yesterday with my limited skills.... Our estimated Belgian BM @Lambik may recognize a few items as well, as Belgian and Dutch cuisine have a few things in common. Love the Klappertaart on the last page, never seen it on a menu here. Maybe I need to start looking for some Dutch restaurants after all ! Another very popular one, that I often saw in Indo restaurant is the "Rijsttafel" , translation "rice table" A few pics taken from Google.... Bon Appetit !
  8. The salmon plate looks really great, nice work on the presentation !
  9. Surabaya - Bali B737-800. 14 passengers ! First time I see this. I guess I was lucky they didn't cancel the flight ! Probably because they needed the plane in Bali for another flight...
  10. Bloody Excel file told me I was way over the Bintang budget last year... Fecking maths ! Maybe need to cut the Missus allowance and transfer it to my Bintang allowa nce ?
  11. "Demobilizing" the jungle kitchen and off to the airport in 2 h. Hell, I am becoming old or cheap charlie ? 13 days in the jungle and only this ? 🙊🙊 Ok, its 08.30 so I can open one more ...hell, I supposed to be an Bintang alcoholic jungle dweller after all !
  12. Now those eggs are not too bad ! One more little effort bitte ! Concerning the "sausage" ...well...its not in the egg polizei's juridiction !
  13. 17 is nice now and then. Thats what we had a few days per year when I lived in Martinique. But only a few days per year. No heater in the jungle because of low power elec supply and to change it is a hassle. And it is.perfectly bearable. Have heater in Bali, nearly never switched on.
  14. Coolest I had here in my jungle must have been around 20C. Needed a long sleeved Tshirt early morning, and the cold shower is than rather cool as well ! (from where it comes BTW...) But never last past 08.00 . Bali never cool. Seawater temp is not bad either, pool is about same.. https://www.seatemperature.org/asia/indonesia/banjar-bali.htm
  15. Story of the morning... The youngest of our dogs loves to roam the area and discover the world. So this morning together with another one off they run, happy like all. Missus comes back, very worried "Papa, Blacky and other dog run to the market for playing"... Problem is indeed the market area is 90% muslim....so they wont be very welcome !
  16. And mushy peas.... Dont be shy to post "less artistic" rendering of food Ray.... You wont be alone !
  17. A baby in leash and 2 set of ugly fat legs.... Sorry, those are 2 of the things I despice in life. Specially a kid held on leash like a dog. What are this parents ? Then again, they holiday in a brothel city and walk their kid around in the middle of prostitutes.... Nothing personal @fon_tok, just the picture.
  18. Ok, next I expected photoshopped eggs ? Good one, mate ! I may use it as my avatar after I "graduate" from the egg academy !
  19. Ok, Asian dinner tonight. Stir fried beef. One of the (few) Asian dishes I like.
  20. I applied, now under probation period. So Achtung to all egg posters !
  21. Yes, agreed...but the protocole of position is not respected... Hahaha....Joking, Nadia !
