  1. Asian style tonight at home... Noodle soup with pork meat balls.
  2. Agreed mate, there need to be a balance between both worlds. There is no way to reject the digital one, as it will be more and more present in our life, so the youngsters better learn to master it. But their world should not gravitate only around that. Sorry I didn't make myself clear enough.
  3. I would prefer them to learn the old fashioned way. Even if just to avoid they start considering all those smart apps as the center of the world. And end up with all their world gravitating around it. Read books, use a paper map, etc.... IMO all those smart things must just be aids to make things easier when one is lazy. But one should be able to continue to live without it. I had a similar discussion with my son concerning all the electronic aids and gadgets they now use in the army. FFS, cant find the way back to base chief, my GPS ran out of battery....
  4. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.urbandictionary.com/define.php%3fterm=beurk&amp=true And its not the Brits who invented tea..... But they are about the only ones in the world to put milk in it. !
  5. I used to have the same principles, but probably impossible in the future. Likely they will do their homework, school exams etc on a tablet. Considering the quantity of stuff being now done on a smart phone or tablet, I see little future for the traditionnal blackboard. It is frigthening how much we are dependant on the net and its terminals (phones tablets...) for daily life. Worst is the time spend on stupid games or updating every 30m ones F.B. ...
  6. Well, after a few beers near the beach in Seminyak I ended up in what is now turning into another "regular"...The little Belgian place. @Lambik , yes I hesitated for the split pea soup as sure it would have brought back some very old memories....Next time ! I couldn't resist going for the escargots as starter, as they were so nice last week. And yep, pure perfection again, even more as I had some wine instead of beer. As main course, I went for the "Vol au Vent". Very nice as well, although I had to question the owner about the presence of a slice of lemon....His answer was "yep, we'll never do that in Belgium or France, but here there are some people who like a zest of lemon on it..." Horror and stupor but we both knew the culprits.... Total damage 370 k IDR (830 b / 22 Euro), and of course the drinks representing the best part of it. But sorry, no way I am going to savour this stuff with a fruit juice or a smoothy ! Next weekend, definitively will try the mussels !
  7. Off to Seminyak, Double Six Beach, for a beer or a JD as "aperitif" and later for lunch at the Belgian place.
  8. @Lambik, Just back from the supermarket. This is the only one in Sanur where the bakery is nice, and offer a decent choice. None of that shiite like croissant with ham and cheese, warmed in the microwave... 5 min by taxi from my place or 15 min by pushbike (I suppose, never tried..)
  9. "Casse croute" at 09.00 am ! Used to be the rule of most construction sites 20 y ago. Now the youngsters will go for a Subway sandwich and a smoothie…….🤮
  10. Cornbeef.....ooooooh noooooooo..... Yes, now Brexit starts to make sense.....
  11. Agreed. I like English breakfast now and then, but too much work to prepare. Even without the bloody beans and the black pudding... And dont start me on tea with milk....Beurk !
  12. Pretty sure you have even more choice in BKK, but not necessarily near your home. When I lived in Huay Kwang, sometimes I went to Asoke for croissants and baguette on Sunday mornings as there was a real French bakery there. Real means with a French baker ! OK, a Belgian one would do also. Pistolekes en koeken
  13. I vary between croissants, brioches, pains au chocolat, and tartines. Easy. Too lazy to prepare something more consequent in the morning.
  14. Had my beer shaken a bit this morning.... Was more than 1 month we hadn't one !
  15. JW Black is ok "neat". The Red version is undrinkable, even with coke.... Well, except when you're already 70% pissed, then it wont make a difference !
  16. Not YouTube, but lets try.... Some of those Aussies are OK ! VID-20181202-WA0014.mp4
  17. Easy choice mate ! No hassle with dish washing or coffee machine cleaning with JD !
  18. Just my opion : drinks like fruit juices will denaturate the taste of the food. Where as an appropriate wine (red or white, dry or sweet) will enhance the flavor of the dish. Beer will fit with most, but will not enhance the flavor. Water (sparkling or flat) is of course neutral, and my 2nd choice. I also tend to have a better digestion with water. On the other hand wine (any type) with an Asian dish will have a double negative effect. The wine will kill the (spicy) taste of the dish, and the spicy dish will dilute completely the taste of the wine. Also the country culture will have its effect. In Belgium they will drink beer with stew, where as in France we will favor a strong red wine. But hey, thats just my 2 eurocentime !
  19. Well, just back home, stomach filled and happy. The place is very new (1 month), the owner is a Balinese guy born in Germany, who has lived 20 years in Antwerp, speak fluently Flemish, has owned a restaurant in Australia, owns a burger place in Bali, but decided to open something more "specialized" The place is not big, not trying to be HiSo, fans no A/C, owner confirmed he wanted to be able to keep reasonable price so to attract the local Belgian expatriate community as a regular customer base. To cut it short the food I had was perfect and tasted like at home, and all this at very reasonable prices. Note this is Seminyak, a bit like the local St Tropez. A quick look at the daily special : And they have quite a few Belgian specialities (Bitterballen, Frikadel…). Although I thought bitterballen was more a Dutch thing ? I had the escargots (10), perfect taste and texture. Served with bread so you can clean up the persil butter sauce... Followed by the traditional "Stoofcarbonade" or "Carbonade Flamande" , a beef stew with beer. The beef was really tender, not chewy at all, and no fat. Presentation would have been better in a round casserole IMO, but dipping a french frie in it, you immediately go "yep, THIS is the real thing" As we say it tasted "comme a la maison" "like at home" ! I did not have a dessert as I planned to visit a few more bars in the area later on. 2 Stella, Escargots (10) and the stew 328,000 IDR (750 B) but worth every cent of it. For the Cheap Charlies, have water instead of the beers and you save like 130 K IDR Definitively a place I will go back to, and I know the Miss will love it as well. @Lambik : Next time I plan the mussels and the vol au vent !
  20. Low season till mid december. But for me its perfect like that. Arrived in the Belgian place !
