  1. Since announcing her plan to abandon her own party and join forces with Labour, Theresa May's appearance has changed overnight...
  2. A few more Brexit smiles, I hope...
  3. That does look very Thai, my neighbours down the road have a similar setup, but it seems to suit them.
  4. The GF's about the same size as a Hobbit, no wonder she likes it here, lol.
  5. I cheated, those photos are from a couple of years back. The grass did indeed go to pot over time, you can't seem to get the same weedkillers here for stuff like clover as you do back home. Then some of the trees got large and mature and their shade and/or dead leaves killed patches of the lawn. I've just had the problem trees cut down and the lawn relaid, so it all looks nice and green again. I used the Malaysian broad-leaved grass this time rather than the Japanese narrow-bladed one as I think it's tougher. The rain yesterday will have done it a power of good.
  6. Only one in almost 8 years. He seemed more scared of me than I was of him and shot off as soon as we spotted each other, so I've no idea if it was dangerous or not. Surprising really, as there's quite a bit of empty land outside the back of the village where I live, but OTOH this is the bright side and most of the snakes here go around on two legs, lol. Terry Lee, living out near Mabprachan, seemed to have a lot of problems with snakes so maybe it's more of a Dark Side thing?
  7. I've got a nice garden just 6 minutes from Walking Street. It was professionally designed by the same people who did the garden at the Sketch Book Art Cafe in Jomtien. I just move the odd plant six inches every now and then, I've got gardeners who come and do the actual work. I love having the green space to look out on, and in the tropics it's all year-round, no depressing winter grey.
  8. I sent a grand here via TW a week ago Saturday. Barclays in the UK transferred the money to TW straight away, so that bit's evidently automated. No idea when TW sent the money to SCB, but they said it would be here on Monday and it was. It always seems to arrive around 1:15 PM, at least that's when I get an SMS from SCB saying it's there. Some branches of SCB are open on the weekend (like the one inside TukCom) but I think the money transfers all go via their Bangkok office. I doubt that's open on the weekend, but you never know.
  9. Here's a diamond in the rough, 'Away We Go' from way back in 2009. I burnt it to DVD years ago but the poster/DVD cover is so unattractive that I never watched it. Really, looking at that I expected some sort of art-deco, nouveau-hippy nonsense. I was pleasantly surprised when I finally stuck the DVD in the player, it's a great little film, funny with colourful and interesting characters and some great banter. Highly recommended, and IMDB and RT agree too. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1176740/
  10. 42.06 on XE at the moment (midday), so around 41.90 at TT.
  11. I haven't got around to watching that one yet, I'll fast track it.
  12. This used to be a popular thread on the old Secrets forum. I can't find a new version of it here using search, so I'll try starting one up and see if we get any response. It would be easy to start with something recent and brilliant, like say Bohemian Rhapsody which I loved. Or maybe Aquaman, or Stan & Ollie. I've seen some highly enjoyable Australian films though, and a few weeks ago I watched one which I thought was one of the best, The Tracker (2002). (N.B. not to be confused with the Ray Winstone offering, Tracker, from 2010 set in NZ) It's filmed in the Flinders range in South Australia and there's some beautiful scenery that's photographed very nicely. I initially though the director was trying to be too artsy-fartsy with the music and native paintings, but he's fitted it all together perfectly and it really works well. The story's a nice one too, some convincing racist acting there, but I guess it probably was pretty much like that back in the 1920's when the movie is set. I won't spoil it by saying anything more, but it's a great way to spend 90 minutes. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0212132/
  13. Once they vote for an extension to Article 50 on Thursday it should go back up again. I hope.
  14. I got 42.08 with TransferWise two days ago. Pity I only changed a grand, but it was my first time using the service so I was a bit wary. It's excellent though, trustworthy and with no drama.
  15. I like the Lindeman's range, there's something there for everybody. Readily available in Friendship and Big C, 599 Baht a bottle usually. They do a Cabernet-Merlot and a Shiraz-Cabernet too, so no need to get gored drinking the same wine over and over.
  16. You can't miss him, he wrestles grizzly bears for a hobby. I mean in Canada, not here.
  17. A 20% drop in the THB against the USD would mean 50 Baht/GBP if all else stays the same (as it never does, of course).
