  1. I have curtailed my consumption of alcohol these days, it is only on my trips abroad and then in Thailand I stick to the beer. Three to four trips a year for 3-4 weeks at a time, once back in the UK I do not touch any booze until I return to the airport to catch the Emirates flight back to Thailand. I know I would be an alcoholic if I continued drinking at home. Back to Patts next week with a side trip booked to Siem Reap....
  2. Here in the UK today is.....
  3. 2010 I used to go diving in Puerto Galera, Philippines, catching the large banka ferry from Batangas, journey time about 80 minutes. The boat had bamboo outriggers, I always felt safe onboard, here is a genuine pic I took of the life vest onboard..
  4. North Macedonian Navy at anchor in Skopje, I'm a frequent visitor due to family living and working here. I can highly recommend the local Skopsko beer...
  5. Travelling down through Southern Luzon near Legazpi 2005, cheap transport available for cheap charlies, the only downside is the need to get off quick when the real train comes along.....
  6. 24 days to go for me, for four weeks including a side trip to Siem Reap with a Cambodian lady I know as my guide.
  7. I spent many years visiting the Philippines from Mindanao to Sagada in the North. Here's a couple of pics of the 'hanging coffins of Sagada' that I took in 2007.... (https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20180405-the-filipino-tribe-that-hangs-its-dead-from-cliffs)
  8. Out of his guard tower, Japanese? My father was shot, wounded and left for dead by the Japanese during the battle for Hill 170, Arakan, Burma in 1945. Thankfully he survived otherwise I wouldn't be here, although he never forgave them.
  9. The museum at the River Kwai bridge is interesting as is the local area, I well recommend a visit....
  10. As older businesses close on Soi Pothole there is always someone ready to buy, renovate and open it as a new bar. The soi appears to be saturated with bars, most appear to me not to be covering their overheads. I was in Pattaya December/January, high season allegedly, ok there are punters around but most bars were empty or had just a few customers at most. A birthday party might bring in a busy evening with many balloon chasers but next night it is back to normal (dead), how do they survive? I spend most of my drinking time in Soi Pothole, I do like the place but wonder how the bars will fare during the low season.
