  1. Have always liked Emirates; now I respect them as well.
  2. Nothing "lost" as yet. Not going to give details at this stage, other than to repeat that an agreement has been reached whereby my original investment, plus a return, is to be paid.
  3. One size fits almost all . . . .
  4. Update. After extended negotiations with Executives based here in Bangkok, an agreement has been reached whereby the return on my original investment is to be paid. Thank-you all for your insights.
  5. Ooops ! Don't know what went wrong there ! It should have looked like this :-
  6. Thanks for the various advice. I've now managed ( I think ) to get the Property Registration completed on-line ( the wife has an email that says it has been received ). I'll try using her Username & Login to get into the system tomorrow and see what is required to register the guests - I've asked them to send copies of their Passports in advance of arrival. Thanks again
  7. Amongst our neighbours are two police officers and a lady who's daughter works for Immigration. Have spoken with all 3, none of them have any idea. The 2 police didn't know what I was talking about. Go figure. Looks like I'll have to drag the wife down to Immigration early next week.
  8. Thanks for that. However, it won't accept the information that I'm entering ! I know where I live. I have multiple documents with my address on, but the drop-down box for the sub-district doesn't have an option for "Nonprue", so the entire form is repeatedly rejected.
  9. I have a British husband & wife ( personal friends of mine for 30+ years ) stopping over next week-end on their way to visit their daughter in New Zealand. We're due to meet them at BKK on Friday evening, entertain and accommodate them over the weekend and return them to BKK on Monday afternoon for their onward flight. Do I / we ( the Thai wife and I ) need to do anything regarding registration of their stay with us ( in Pattaya Darkside ) with Jomtien Immigration ? Obviously, we are neither a hotel or a guest house - just a private dwelling with a second bedroom. As such, the property owner ( my wife ) has never had cause to register our address as "Accommodation". Whilst I accept that the easy option is probably to "do nothing", my policy in general is to try to comply with the rules of the Country in which I choose ( though I sometimes wonder why ) to live; and I don't want our guests to get accosted by officials as they try to leave BKK, for failing to have registered their location. Advise please . . . .
  10. So does that mean that the exceedingly nice young man can now retire fully ( albeit prematurely ) ?
  11. The final nail in the coffin. R.I.P. Secrets
  12. To follow-up on my previous posts ( 216 & 234 ) . . . . I went to Immigration on the 25th just after 11.00 and presented my Passport with the Marriage Visa renewal extension stamp dated 25/12/2019, was directed straight to the desk, no ticket required. At the desk I was bounced sideways from Officer to officer to clerk to junior clerk, who shuffled through a pile of paperwork, pulled out a sheet, verified the details and re-stamped my passport, good until the 10th December 2020. RESULT ! Nothing said about Health Insurance Nothing said about bringing proof of THB400 k in the bank at 90 days I said Merry Christmas on the way in, and again on the way out; they said . . . .
  13. Several series of novels, all written by John Sandford ( more than 30 in total ) The KIdd series. An artist and computer tech, who with his colleagues get tangled up in various situations. The Lucas Davenport series. An Investigative Police officer, who specializes in "the hard stuff". The Flowers series. A spin off from the Davenport series. Like all good novels, they can be read in isolation, but there are background themes that develop in progression, so I would suggest they be read in order.
  14. So who would you cast as Reacher ? I always thought Tom Cruise was too short. I would vote for Steven Segal. Apologies if this is considered a Thread f**k.
  15. To follow-up on my previous post ( #216 ) . . . . The Mrs received a phone call last Wednesday, just after 08.00, from the Immigration Police, asking if we were at home - we were, and she said so. She was instructed that we were both to remain at home until they had made a Home Inspection Visit. She was also told that we had to summon the Witness that we had used for the Extension Renewal. At my instigation, she asked what time they would be visiting, she was told "later today". Fortunately I had some paperwork to do, but had an appointment at 12 Noon. Come 11.30 I asked the wife to call back and ask, politely, what time their officer might arrive. She was told 12.30. So I cancelled my meeting. At 12.40, a THai Immigration Police vehicle arrived with an officer in uniform and two in civvy clothes. The 2 in civvies were "large gentlemen" ( and I don't mean fat ). The uniformed guy was polite enough and had passable English. He said that one of his colleagues ( civvy #1 ) was going to walk through and take photo's in the house - didn't"ask", just "said". The civvy #2 had a mini-video cam that was recording as soon as they were out of the car. The guy in uniform had what looked like both sets of paperwork from the Jomtien Office. He had our witness counter-sign what appeared to be every document that had already got either my wifes or my own signature on it. He said to me (I paraphrase ) "Some farang hire Bar Lady to be "wife" so they can get Marriage Visa with small money in the bank. Now Immigration sometime do house check to see if "wife" is real". I pointed out to him that the Photos that we submitted to support the renewal application were taken with the wife and In front of 1) A montage of the guests at our Wedding Party, & 2) an image of the wife and I in her mothers village home, being blessed by the monks. In both, we are in ( the same ) full wedding outfits. He say " Photoshop easy". He then said something to his colleagues; civvy #1 took photo's of both the photo montage, and then the village wedding photo, with civvy #2 videoing him doing it. Then handshakes and wais all round as they left. According to the paperwork in my Passport, I need to return to Jomtien on the 25th December to ascertain the progress of my renewal application. We are tentatively scheduled to go up-North to the village for Christmas & New Year, so I plan to visit Jomtien on the 20th to see what's happening and apply to re-visit on the 6th or 7th Jan.
  16. I believe the overriding phrase in these situations is "TiT" ! I know of Newbies that have been married, often in the village, by the Monks, and consider it to be a done deal, even though the new "wife" still has a Thai husband tucked away in another village, and possibly several other Farang husbands on different Continents. To protect yourself and your Thai assets in a divorce, the Thai marriage need be registered at the Amphur - if not, how do the Thai authorities know that it ever happened ? If your Country of origin offers financial support to your ( legitimate ) Thai wife at the time of, and/or after your death, then obviously they need be aware of your marriage before you die - hence the reporting of your ( registered at the Amphur ) marriage to your Embassy.
  17. Have to admit that the last time I had to fly back to the U.K. was back in the late summer of 2015, so I'm obviously out of touch. From what I recall, Emirates BKK to Glasgow, leaving on the 3rd September returning on the 31st September, was just under THB 100k for the 2 of us. Cattle class. I've just looked on Expedia ( other flight supermarkets are available ) and found return flights for a week in mid-February next year, BKK to Birmingham from several airlines, including Emirates ( which has a flight duration of just over 16 hours, so very short lay-over ) is markedly less than THB 30k. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but when/why did the prices drop so dramatically ? Is it due to the THB being so strong ?
  18. Wot 'appened to my invite ? Belated congratulations, Sir
  19. Spot on ! Completely agree. When in the Jomtien Immigration Office, it is my policy to say as little as possible - even then, I'm aware that my blood pressure is high and my fuse is extremely short. Qudos to my wife for putting up with me and "making nice" with the IO's
  20. If I remember correctly, The ( a) Thai Ampur ( local Government Office ) will not issue a Marriage Certificate to A Farang marrying a Thai, unless they can prove that both parties are eligible to get married. I believe they have access to a DataBase that enables them to ascertain the eligibility of the prospective Thai partner, but not the Farang. I had to apply to the British Embassy, and fill out a questionnaire; the Embassy staff then verified ( presumably via an internet link to the UK Registry of Births, Marriages & Deaths ) that I was both alive, and single, and therefore eligible to marry. They then provided a Certificate to that effect ( which was accepted by the Ampur. For those that do not know, there are 3 steps to a Farang marrying a Thai ( if you have more detailed knowledge than I, feel free to correct me ) :- 1) Have the Monks marry you in front of the Thai family, neighbors and friends. 2) Go to the Amphur and have the Marriage Registered in accord with Thai law. 3) Take the Thai Marriage Certificate to your Embassy ( the one that issued the Certificate of Freedom to Marry ) and have them register it ( in the case of a Brit, that would be with the aforementioned UK Registry of Brits Marriages & Deaths ).
  21. Have just returned from Jomtien Immigration where I've started my Marriage Visa (Non"O" ) renewal. I used to have a Retirement Visa, but had to change it as I needed a Work Permit. Yesterday I downloaded the TM.7 form from https://immigrationbangkok.com › thailand-immigration-forms in Word format, completed it ( typed text into the boxes ) and printed two copies. This morning, took the requisite photos of the Mrs and me outside and inside the house, then printed them out, 2 to a sheet of A4; then off to the bank. Deposited THB 100, updated the Bank Book, asked for a letter for Immigration + a printed Statement for the last 6 months. Then off to Jomtien with a folder full of various paperwork ( copies of Yellow House Book, copies of Freedom to Marry, copies of Marriage Certificate etc etc. ) Arrived to find that there is no queue ( it must have been just before 10.00 ), so straight to the desk. Both officers gabbing on their 'phones. Stood in front of the senior one , who directed us to here junior partner, who in turns points to a seat. When she's finished on the phone, I present ( 2 sets ) of paperwork. She takes one look and passes them both back to my wife and says something. My wife disappears to the front of the office and comes back with 2 new TM.7's. I ask "What's up ?" and am told that the forms I have ( downloaded yesterday ) are last years and are no good ! Also, the forms have to be handwritten, not typed. So I fill them all out again. The usual "you need more copies of this", "this copy no good, do again", "why you not use agent ?". Nothing said about Health Insurance ( though I do have my Pacific Cross paperwork with me ). They also took the copies of the Certificate of Freedom to Marry out of the paperwork piles and says "Not need any more ". So, after about 90 minutes, we were on our way out, having been told that some time this week we are to expect a house visit ( that's a first ), and need to make ourselves available. I now have a Temporary Extension of Stay stamp in my Passport, valid until 25th December, at which point I need return to Jomtien to see if Bangkok have raised any objections to the renewal.
