  1. Exactly why you see the water cannons being used in the most densely populated parts. Again, a horrible use of the worlds most precious natural resource, that being water, and a stop gap band aid and not a treatment of the problem, just the symptom.
  2. PTT actually rates very very high when it comes to social consciousness in its sector. VERY HIGH! And it is not via a corrupt Thai rating system. https://www.pttgcgroup.com/en/sustainability/pttgc-sustainability
  3. I predict Thailand will have more alternative energy means, solar, wind, hydro, and electric cars within 10 years than 95% of all countries on face of the earth, including N. America and EU......it is the advantage of starting from ground zero. Already big talk about removing import tax on electric cars. Hong Kong, when they took off the 100% first year tax on new electric vehicles they instantly went to highest per capital of electric cars in the world. Telsa's everywhere you look. But since Jan 1, 2018 they took the tax credit away and it is going backwards again with regards to electric versus carbon fuels.
  4. They do both.....same here in past few weeks. Cloud seeding only works in certain atmospheric conditions and relative humidity points. It is not a full gap measure, otherwise we would have no droughts anywhere in the world.
  5. The International Experts are pre occupied at the wonderment of Paris...lol
  6. It works, and is practically a daily occurrance during winter time in Beijiing. It is not a good use of natural resources, no doubt, a horrible use, and a classic band aid treatment of a symptom and not addressing the problem, but fact is it is VERY EFFECTIVE!
  7. Not only that, but less than 20% of people who work in this country are in the system and paying taxes to start with.
  8. Not sure about that Spicey...to best of my knowledge Thailand no different measuring standard than all WHO practices. I use aqi app which is a global app and its readings always match exactly what govt says. Happy to report at this very minute whilst it sucks here today, central and wanchai in hk is worse than phrom phong. Or so AQI shows. It is also known that where the measurements are taking place...china in beijiing "strategically" had their measurement post at the ideal spots and were reporting 80 ppm whilst at us embassy less than a mile away it was over 700. Hong Kong got caught doing this as well...remember like 8 years ago when we were getting choked out and the hk govt was trying to convince world not a problem. Turned out they were reading and reporting causeway bay from a 28th story rooftop near sogo and at street level in front of sogo the particulate matters ppm were 15 times greater than on rooftop. Also..when u say hk danger level is 70 i think you are referring to a different kind of particulate...that plastic shite. Pretty sure Thailand has exact same standard for all particulates as does any who country. AQI.org is a great app...can check anywhere in world at touch of a button.
  9. I am happy to report that is changing in BKG especially for kasikorn card holders be it debit or credit. 6 months ago, never asked for a pin, today, prob about 50% of places i frequent have been supplied with new processing machines and i am asked to put in a pin and not asked to sign anything. I see this as a huge step forward and at current velocity of implementation i would guess 50% will be 90% before july 1.
  10. From a tech standpoint and personal loss preventions the top up cards like octupussy and rabbit card here is like using dial up internet. Will be a thing of the past within 2 years. Digital Wallets or QR code payment system is where it is all at. Sure octupussy will partner with a digital wallet platform if they haven't all ready. LINE and Rabbit have partnered here. Outside of paying a moto scooter taxi i could easily go cashless and cc-less here in bangkok no sweat today. https://appsynth.net/blog/thailand-cashless-economy/
  11. I believe it is a slang term that replaces and emphasises the ! punctuation symbol. Whilst not the originator, but for sure championed on these forums by the honorable @matthewh and consequently embraced by quite a few posters.
  12. Well research...there are 1000's of articles from NASA to French Scientists...i really thought this was fairly common knowledge, and surely not recent knowledge...i think polar fields reversing was part of my grade 7 science curriculm at school. BTW, the Earth is not flat either.
  13. Not sure why this shift would be surprising. The rock is way overdue for a complete reversal of the magnetic poles...be about the 17th known time it has happenned.

    Golf

With all due respect to St Andrews, Carnoustie, and the like....Augusta is the Mecca. TV, does no justice to it. I guarantee when you see it live and in person you will not argue with this perspective.

    Golf

A horrible day on the golf course beats a terrific day in the office 100% of the time. One of golf's gifts to the world is if you play enough you can really pick up a lot of nuances as to what kind of person it is who you are playing with. A gentleman's game based on honor with much room for skullduggery for those inclined. Probably why a ton of high level business deals are conducted on a golf course. No better way to find out the ethical nature of someone you are considering doing business with than a few rounds on the links!
  16. Bangkok had been back to blue skies nice air since last Saturday evening, but woke up this morning to 170 ppm and bad tasting air.
  17. Speaking of SOCCER😎 @Esco, and i am sorry if you have previously answered this question somewhere in this thread, are you getting a chance to see your bro in law play live in T-1 here on your visit?
  18. Mine will be quite easy to keep and not sure why I need to be so weak as to wait until the clock strikes 12:00 AM on Jan 1 to activate. Have led an pretty healthy lifestyle the past 5 years,.....80% of days a hard workout in the gym, minimizing consumption of processed foods, eliminating Mc Donald's and Burger King from Diet, eliminating all soft drinks from the diet, doing the morning apple cider vinegar thing, and most importantly no cigarettes etc etc...for some reason the last 3 months of 2018 I have just fell totally off the tracks, have probably only been to the gym 10 times or so, have been eating McDonald's once a week, even bought a coke or two and smoking like a foolio.......wow, alot of hard work can go out the window at my age quickly. The elevator in my building has mirrors on 3 sides and everytime I get on I don't recognize myself,.....probably put on 10 kgs in the core the past 3 months, have man boobs any girl could be proud off, skin tone looks like that of a heavy smoker.... Jan 1, time to get back on the right track and never leave it again!
  19. A picture I wish I wasn't posting. By far and away the most polluted skies I have ever seen in my 15 years of living in Bangkok. Not sure what is going on, but since about 3pm on Wed afternoon it has just gotten worse with geometric progression. And to make matters worse, it is not a normal Bangkok construction dust or carbon monoxide pollution.....this is Beijiing like crap where you can taste the plastic particles in the air. DISGUSTING!
  20. Sitting on my deck in shorts and a tee shirt enjoying a stunning winter morning here in Bangkok, sipping on a cup of joe and wondering why Tommy D does not have a link button to Fab 103 on this board like he did on other boards in the past?
  21. Ask the honorable gentleman if as the "acting" Ambassador does he get to live in the digs? What a spread it is. Maybe an insult to American taxpayers, but still, has to be one of the best postings a State Department veteran could ever have. I have had the pleasure of experiencing it twice now. Eric John, 3 or 4 Ambassadors once threw an awesome BBQ back when the mad cow scare was on and US Beef was banned in Thailand. We were craving it after awhile so a BBQ was thrown at his pad where they helicoptered in a whole bunch of delicious cow from a aircraft carrier in International waters direct to the property of the Ambassador. Technically the US Beef was never on Thai soil so no issues. Was a great party.
  22. Waiting for BM Esco to arrive for a HH beer and catch up...
