  1. Mr. Moo to reopen at a new location in Rompho. I initially posted this in the "Pic of your breakfast-dinner" thread, as I did not see a general restaurants thread. Given that this place meets the baht limit, I am placing a cross link here.
  2. I will link the post in EP's 300 baht thread.
  3. A restaurant update here. If there is a better thread for restaurant info, someone let me know. Here is some potentially good news. Mr. Moo is reopening at a location in Rompho. We spoke with Mrs. Moo this evening at a bar in Rompho. She said that the new location will use the old soi 7 menu. The new restaurant will be on the further South soi in Rompho. The GF has a few friends in town, so we plan on going there tomorrow August 17th for opening night. I will post a review. In case anyone does not know, Mr. Moo has operated restaurants at a couple of locations over the years. The best known of these was his soi 7 place. All of his places were price friendly and the food was decent given the price range.
  4. Finished watching the limited series "Gaslit" tonight. It has an IMDB rating of 7.2, which is trending up from an initial rating of 6.9. I would say higher 7s are warranted. Obviously, I enjoyed the series. https://www.google.com/search?q=gaslit&source=hp&ei=mZz6YpO8N_HMz7sP-qau6AQ&iflsig=AJiK0e8AAAAAYvqqqWOBAxA7kQ6nK8qawfjy5ge-UARq&gs_ssp=eJzj4tVP1zc0zEoyt8zKTTE1YPRiS08szsksAQBOwQbw&oq=gaslit&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAEYADIFCC4QgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBwgAEIAEEAoyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDoRCC4QgAQQsQMQgwEQxwEQ0QM6CwgAEIAEELEDEIMBOggILhCABBDUAjoICC4QgAQQsQM6CwguEIAEELEDEIMBOggIABCxAxCDAToFCAAQsQM6CAgAEIAEEMkDOggIABCABBCxA1AAWNUOYIc0aABwAHgAgAFOiAG0A5IBATaYAQCgAQE&sclient=gws-wiz The 8 episode series covers the Watergate break-in and the subsequent political crisis. It centers on the Mitchels (played by Sean Penn and Julia Roberts) and also the Deans. Well worth a watch IMO. One thing I learned was that the rat bastard (G. Gordan Liddy) only served 4 years of his 34 year sentence and then went on to make significant money partially as a Faux News expert analyst.
  5. Lots of great albums here. When I read the topic title the first couple that came to mind were: The Allman Brothers - Live at the Fillmore East Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsies Nirvana - Nirvana MTV Unplugged
  6. I worked within the beltway for 5 years. Yes DC has some unpleasant temperature swings. The view near the White House was never that great, but with the extra security fences added after Trump's failed coup, it is bleak at this time. Back when I worked there (2008-2013) the best views were the ones leading up to Capitol Hill. There were also a lot of pretty decent museums worth a visit in this area. I liked strolling through there and taking in the sites. I especially liked the Art Museum and the American Natural History Museum. Although the later changed it's focus under W Bush to move away from displays pointed toward what the early settlements were like to the long history of war. The walk along the reflection pool from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial is also very nice. A stop at the Jefferson Memorial on the return can also be a pleasant time. The Jefferson Memorial tends to attract a younger more vibrant crowd. The best time to be in DC is for the Cherry Blossoms. These tend to bloom around April 10th or so. The cherry trees are all descendant from a gift from Japan. The trees in Japan bloom just a little earlier and are also a site to see.
  7. Cajun Shrimp and Sausage Pasta This recipe caught my eye and I decided to give it a try. It turned out very well and I will do again some day. https://yummyaddiction.com/cajun-shrimp-and-sausage-pasta-recipe/#recipe IMO the recipe is not very well written, but hey all's well that ends well. I think some of the cooking times are a little understated for the veggies and sausages. Make sure not to overcook the shrimp. Less than 2 minutes per side is about right. And make sure that the pasta is a little short of al dente, as it will cook some more in the sauce. I bought the Andouille online from Prime. It was decent. I really liked the taste on this dish. The GF liked it as well. A few pics. Finished in the pan Plated
  8. I watched a David Cronenberg movie called "Eastern Promises" today. I was about 20minutes into it when I realized that I had seen it before, but I was enjoying the movie to the point that I stuck with it. It has a 7.6 IMDB. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Promises Not great art, but I found it to be entertaining. It is an action/adventure flick with a high body count.

Beautiful pics. Thanks for sharing them. Can I ask what you shot them with?

I do not have an answer to your question as to whether or not this is a good time, but I did make this trip from Thailand and I very much enjoyed it. When I retired (2016 or so), I booked a 45 day stay in Thailand and broke that up with a 4 day visit to Siem Reap. When I returned from Cambodia, I met my current GF on the day that I returned. I am not sure why that is relevant, but somehow it feels like it is. In Siem Reap I stayed at a hotel called "The Golden Temple". It was a little pricey, but was a good base for the trip. https://www.google.com/travel/hotels/Krong Siem Reap%2C Cambodia/entity/CgoIl6Xsp66orPBDEAE?q=cambodia siem reap hotels golden temple&g2lb=2502548%2C2503771%2C2503781%2C4258168%2C4270442%2C4284970%2C4291517%2C4306835%2C4308227%2C4515404%2C4597339%2C4703207%2C4718358%2C4722900%2C4723331%2C4757164%2C4786958%2C4790928%2C4794648%2C4812117%2C4814050%2C4819463%2C4819464%2C4820584%2C4820586%2C4828448%2C4828572%2C4829015%2C4831354&hl=en-TH&gl=th&ssta=1&ts=CAESABogCgIaABIaEhQKBwjmDxAIGAoSBwjmDxAIGAsYATICEAAqCQoFOgNUSEIaAA&rp=EJel7KeuqKzwQxDUpPnjwtqUdhCFuuWi-uP_5e8BEM3V5sb3r6mqEjgBQABIAqIBGUtyb25nIFNpZW0gUmVhcCwgQ2FtYm9kaWHAAQM&ap=aAE&ictx=1&ved=0CAAQ5JsGahcKEwiQ97_z-rf5AhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBA&utm_campaign=sharing&utm_medium=link&utm_source=htls I spent for a 3 day package on a tour of the temples. In retrospect that was over kill, but I did learn a lot. After my all day temple walking, I was too tired to explore the adjacent bar area. A pic that has been taken a million times, but still resonates with me.
  11. I have always owned an iPhone. I am just one lazy SOB I guess. I thought I might ask for any suggestions about buying a new iPhone in Thailand. I have an XS and it has been a good phone, but it is starting to get a little quirky and is 4 years old. I have not always treated it with the loving care it deserves. Sounds like the right time to replace it is now. I am not coming into this cold. I have been reading up a little on current models and options. Since I am an upgrade after a few Model releases have passed kind of a guy, I figure that I should go with an iPhone 13 Pro. The only difference that I see between the 13 Pro and the 13 Pro Max is that the Max screen display is bigger. Despite my increasingly Mr. Magoo eye sight, this is not a reason to spend more money for me. One thing I really liked about the XS was the dual sim with one of them being an e-sim. I use AIS for the e-sim. The 13 Pro versions have similar, if not identical, sim capabilities. I figure I may as well buy a 13 Pro from AIS and have them do the conversion. If I convert the phone myself, I still have to go see AIS to convert the e-sim. AIS has various options to reduce the purchase price, but all of them include signing up for some kind of data contract. I am almost always on wi-fi, so I do not need an AIS data contract IMO. The cost of the data contract exceeds the reduction in the purchase of the phone. Eff that. Anyway, I see that I can purchase the phone from the online AIS store for a little under 40,000 and pick it up at the local AIS store in Central Plaza in Pattaya. I figure I will go to the AIS store in Central Plaza and see what they offer me. If the price is significantly more expensive than the online AIS store, I will evaluate my options. Any comments?
  12. Garlic-Lime Grilled Pork Tenderloin. This is a long time favorite of mine. It is an America's Test Kitchen (ATK) recipe, that is no longer available for free on the net. Garlic Lime Pork Tenderloin.pdf My Thai guests seem to really like this recipe. The recipe is written to be used on an American type Weber Grill. I use a Lodge Grill Pan here in Jomtien (it costs about 1200 THB on Lazada). I heat the grill pan on as high a heat as possible for at least 6 minutes, before putting the pork onto the grill. Cast iron cooking holds heat very well, but it reaches that heat slowly. A meat thermometer is a good idea for this recipe. One wants to hit the suggested 140 F degree temp as close as possible. Otherwise the pork will be over-cooked and a little tough. A pic
  13. Jomtien - Cafe Blu This is more intended as a restaurant review. If there is a better thread for this post, please let me know. Cafe Blu opened about 6 months ago. I only recently heard about it. https://www.facebook.com/cafeblupattaya/ The restaurant is located in the Arcadia Beach Resort, which is very near Cafe des Amis. You can drive into the resort and park in a covered garage and take an easily accessible elevator to the 2nd floor. The restaurant is owned/operated by the same person (Blu) who owns/operates Cafe des Amis. The restaurant does have what I consider to be a very deep menu for a casual restaurant. There are big differences between Cafe des Amis and Cafe Blu. Cafe Blu is a casual bar/restaurant with many items on the menu being around 300 THB. There is also a common thread between the two restaurants. The table settings, food, service, and overhead music are very well done. It is a very pleasant place to have a lighter dinner at a lower cost. The GF and I both really liked it. Highly recommended to say the least. They had a very slow night this evening and I hear that is the norm at this point. I would categorize it as having a similar target menu and price range as Sandbar, Cafe Sands, and Peaky Blinders. Of the 4 I think that Cafe Blu is in the running for the best quality of ambiance, service, and food. A few pics. I had a Bacon Cheeseburger and Fries. Very nicely done and the fries were properly lightly salted. The GF had Pad Thai. She usually criticizes what she considers to be Farang Thai Food, but considered this dish to be well prepared. I tasted a bit and I agree.
  14. IMO, if you liked Jomtien, you might find Central Pattaya to be too noisy and busy for your tastes. Sorry your mate has passed on.
  15. What is a man, when it comes to Pattaya? 😀
  16. I am not sure about the hours. We were at all of them at night. We tend to head home about 10 PM and none of them looked to be closing any time soon.
  17. Happy Bar. On the North road of Rompho about midway thru the complex. Standard Rompho Bar about 25% gay. Good service for drinks.
  18. The Blue Parrot. Opened very recently. Pretty much a straight bar as near as I can recall. It is near the front of Rompho but midway between the two main roads. They have decent music a couple of night a week. The price of beer is very good at 50 THB. The house wine is terrible, but they have a 200 THB corkage fee. Decent pool table.
  19. NY 1969 or something like that. On the South Road of Rompho near the front with lots of blue lights. The owner was a former hair stylist of the GF and foto bombed every picture I exchanged with her prior to us getting serious. He is definitely a katoey who attracts decent money from gay men. The bar is not exclusively gay, but there is an influence. We attended on opening night and the crowd was about 50% gay and 50% straight. They had a few sexy ladies playing to the straights. The owner is intelligent, personable, and knows how to play to the crowd. The music is too loud for me.
  20. There seems to be some interest in Rompho, so I will pass on a little of what I have observed recently. The lights are coming back on, but IMO I think it will be a tough road for the new owners. To level set things, the GF and I have been together for 6 years now. Prior to that and in the early years of our being together she ran a string of hair salons in the Jomtien area. Many of her customers were katoeys and bar girls. Many of them are still friends of hers and in some cases mine as well. In recent weeks we have been to 3 bar opening parties in Rompho, I will review then separately. All of them were more of less laid back with no hate toward straights/katoeys or others. Only drunken assholes are not invited.
  21. To answer the original question. I have had relationships of varying natures with Garrotas, Latinas, and Asian women. The Garrotas (Brazilian) tended to be the most in your face sexy. One of them once brought a gf of hers with just to up the experience level. And wow did they. We spent 3 days together and they were continually coming up with additional ideas, mostly about role playing. At one point GF1 was taking pics of GF2 learning how to be educated. Probably the most in your face sexiest lady I ever had was a Dominican. We would go for hours at a time, taking pics and then looking them over in the Morning, when she would freak a little. I had a Salvadoran friend that I met in TJ. We spent 5 years together off and on. We were good in bed. I spent time with her back in El Salvador. I am older now. I have spent 6 years with my current Thai lady. At 73 I am probably not capable of participating in some of the earlier activities that I described, but I do enjoy our time together. I find her to be the most caring of my ladies over time.
  22. Really guy? I worked in India for close to a year. It is a very closed culture IMO. If an Indian Woman were to date a white guy like myself within India, she may as well have slut tattooed on her forehead. I hear it is different in the US. Still I do not find Indian women to be attractive. They tend to be pumpui. I did try to connect with the p4p scene while in India. There was no middle road. What I mean, it was either very dangerous (HIV wise) street whores or very expensive escorts who had no conception of GFE. With regard to the later, it was "I will pull up my skirt and you let me know when you are done". I never tried either scene, but the reports were way too numerous and also too consistent to ignore. I did connect with an Indian guy who was willing to trade info for Thai info. This got me a connection to a middle of the road young Indian woman who was attractive, but much too silly to put up with. I noticed, at least at the time, that most Indian guys were denied entrance to the better clubs on Walking Street.
  23. Just from my perspective and to probably conclude my participation in this topic, the GF has sold the restaurant to another owner. Details are still being worked out, but it appears that the new owner is retaining the cook (actually it sounds like they moved in together). 🙂 If one likes the food, go for it. 😀 Although I predict that they may be throwing dishes at each other before too long (I am just being a jerk with that statement), I wish them well and the transition should go well with regard to participation from the GF's side. 😀
  24. I live in Jomtien. I have noticed a few new bars opening in Rompho with a few decent looking ladies. Back in the day I liked the smaller bars on soi 7 and the adjacent sois. That description includes Rompho IMO. These places were/are very hit or miss, but if one enjoys diamond in the rough hunting ..... I would mention two places. Escobar is on Thappraya a little before Jomtien Beach Road. I have noticed a few very cute girls in there while walking past with the GF. I even got a curt "what you looking at" out of the GF on one occasion. Many other times, I did not see any ladies that might interest me. A place I like to kick back with some friends is Cafe Samba Banana located on soi Thappraya (not Thappraya Road). If you are looking for Walking Street level stunners, this is not the place for you. Many of the ladies here are not working girls, but if a few laughs and pleasant conversation with some very nice Thai MILFs interests you.... A disclaimer is that the GF and I have known the owner for several years. Also, I hear that some of the ladies, although not being interested in your short term interests, could well be a conduit to said short term interests. Link follows. https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100196130072290&__tn__=C-R
  25. A key to this recipe is finding a good Italian Sausage that one is happy with. Being from Chicago, I have a preference for a sweet Italian Sausage. Johnsonville's Sweet in the US would be a good example of this. I have communicated with a few other home cooks over at PA and none of us have come up with one. I went so far as to try making my own. I came close, but it was a fair amount of work and I could only make a bulk package, as opposed to sausages. I am currently ordering a savory variety from Jet Italian and it is not bad, but still not quite what I want. https://jetitaliandeli.com/collections/sausages/products/salsiccia I was given a tip the other day, that Makro carries something called a Fennel Sausage that may be closer to what I am looking for. Supposedly this item is in the center freezer compartments just past where the milk is found. I will check out and report back.
