Sure. The few taxi or Grab drivers I know, and for who I am now a "resident" told me usually they take home 300 K IDR (650 b) a day. Now it is rather 50 K (100 b) I always super tip them, like giving them 40 or 50k for a 25k trip but still, the stories are sad. The complete madness of this border lockdown will have consequences that will take a decade to recover from.

Obviously the small, sleepy surfers paradise has changed. But not comparable with Pattaya. No huge malls here. But tourist are now Chinese first, aussies relegated, and Indians are following. Very few Europeans, the flight is long and expensive.

One more thing... You saw the changes that happened in Pattaya in the last 20 y ? Huge malls, HiSo hotels etc .... Do you think those things target the sexpat ? No, they target the new clientele. Being they Chinese or Indians. But the 60+ sexpat will sooner or later be relegated in a small corner. And pricing will be a part of this strategy. You should have a look at what happened to Khao San Rd in BKK. Closed down for renovation, reopened some time ago, completely transformed. And it has become a place where the middle class BKK youth go out. Cheap farang backpackers out, middle class BKK youth in. And I don't think it will ever reverse. Maybe one day W.S. will be transformed for middle class and HiSo Thai from BKK to come on weekend. Plenty video on Youtube of the "New Khao San RD" Not even speaking about the quality of the girls .....

The difference between China and the West is they establish long plans. 10, 20 or 30 years. Where as our politicians plans are dictated by elections every 4 or 5 years.
